I run a home based business located in Holland, Michigan. I have been making candles since 2001. I have worked with paraffin in the past but now use strictly soy wax. I am interested in doing some testing with palm wax. I have done some testing with bath & body products but for now am going to stick to candles.

  1. Out of the blue I sometimes have experienced "sweating" with my candles. When it has happened it has had me completely confused since nothing has changed in regards to my supplies. Soy can be a complete mystery to me on occasion. 99% of the time I use 1 ounce per pound so I don't think the sweating was caused by too much FO. The only thing I could think of was the tempature or humidity. Sara
  2. Here is a wick comparison chart I got from another group in regards to CD & HTP wicks. Hope this helps. Sara HTP/CD Wick Comparison: HTP 83 = CD 10/12 HTP 93 = CD 12 HTP 104 = CD 14 HTP 105 = CD 16 HTP 126 = CD 18 HTP 1212 = CD 20 HTP 1312 = CD 22
  3. I have been using the same tealight wicks for over a year now & have recently been running into problems. I have tested & tested & tested & thought I finally had the perfect wick for my soy tealights & now I am having problems out of the blue. I use 1 ounce of FO per pound, liquid candle dyes & KY Pure Soy wax. I had the same problems in 18 different scents some dyed & some not. The wick extinguishes itself after burning 30-45 minutes, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little longer. The wick I am using is a CD-3. When I tested in the past CD-4's seemed too hot & CD-3's worked perfectly in every scent I tried with & without dye. Now I am wondering if I need to wick up. Does anyone care to share what wicks they use for their soy tealights?? I would really appreciate any insight or comparisions for soy tealights. I have tested LX wicks for my tealights as well but other than LX & CD I haven't tried any other wicks for my tealights in particular, does anyone use some other wick type that works great for tealights?? Do you think different soy waxes could make a difference. I used Bluegrass Soy & EZsoy in the past with no problems but just recently in the last 6 months switched to KY Pure Soy. I didn't have any problems until just recently though & am on my 3rd box. I am beyond frustrated & confused Sara
