  1. Is there some kind of chemical you put in the wax to make it do that? Forgive the virgin newbie question. :P

Palm wax crystallizes on its own... in fact there are different kinds, depending on how they crystallize- starburst, feather... Candlescience has a tortoiseshell pattern palm wax and I have some of that coming later today! :grin2: I'm so excited.

  2. Well I got this lovely candle that just oozed scent - and I mean oozed scent. It leaked out the candle and made it into one lovely slippy mess - really horrible, really horrible - smelled okay though but not any stronger than the next one I made using less scent.

If you are using paraffin without adding vybar, you can probably only use 1/2 oz pp before it starts oozing.

  3. I am working on an idea for an everlasting pillar kit. It will have everything you need to make them. I will offer the kits as votive or tealight only and both together. Maybe I will get this finished this summer, the slow season for me.

That's a good idea... I think a lot of people would be interested!

  4. I'm trying to get a nice shade of yellow with Reddig-Glo dye chips and I'm having the hardest time! I want it to be bright... well, about the color of all the cute smilies on here! :grin2::o:wink2: (just an excuse to use them all) but the "yellow" chips give me a yellow that's just too fluorescent. I thought "gold" might be better but it looks about the same to me. I'm using paraffin pillar wax with stearic.

  5. I'm not talking about the ones who have leftover supplies bought from a reputable company....I'm referring to the ones who make the scents themselves and claim that they're uncut, blah, blah, blah....would you buy them from these people???

I would go ahead and give them a try... why not? You could be missing out on an awesome supplier. I would just be careful and not spend too much money on the first order, just in case they do turn out to have icky or diluted oils. Don't spend enough that you would miss it if you had to throw out the FOs. :D

  6. Soooo - how do you use these 6" pre-tabbed wicks in a pillar mold? And what do you use if you have a tall pillar??

I've been wondering this myself, since I just got pretabbed wicks for my pillars for the first time. I used a wick pin, then inserted the tabbed wick in the hole from the bottom, but the tab part is actually thick enough to make my candles sit just a little off-balance when I do it that way. You could always just cut off the tab!

As for taller pillars... I have no clue.

  7. Have you tried weighing out the remaining FO to see how close it is to 1/2 the bottle? The shape of bottles can sometimes be a little deceiving as to what fraction of the liquid is really left.

It does sound like you might be having problems with your scale though, if your NG 1 oz came out to 1/2 oz. It shouldn't be that far off, and I've found their measurements to be right on.

  8. Obviously I'm no expert... but I would suggest burning that one all the way down, then if it's still working out well, pour the candles for hubby's coworker plus one extra, and burn that one down too... just because you might have done something a little differently the second time you poured them. I would also warn the person and try to convince them to help you test... lol!

This is assuming that you are going to be burning the same fragrance. If not, you might need to play with the new one a little.
