  1. For future reference.....

FOH and AH/RE have the dead on dupe of Moonlight Path. I have made some awesome tarts with these oils....I haven't been able to get a great throwing candle yet. For the purpose of lotions or perfumes, they might be ideal.

Tony's has a close, but not dead on dupe....it seems lighter (if you know what I mean). I have been able to get a decent throwing candle...perhaps because it is "lighter"? Don't know if it is what I'd chose for lotions/perfumes, though.

  2. Thanks for reviews

I didn't get the brandy pear. I love pear, but the idea of brandy is what turned me off. Do you smell liquor in the scent?

I do love FOH Pear and Ginseng----it's mostly pear with just a bit of spice (to me it's a clean smell).

    Can you describe brandied pear?

  3. Let me try to clarify....although, I think I may have said this already....What impressed me with the oils was how quickly they filled up their small spaces with scent....within a matter of minutes.

So, perhaps, what impressed me was not actually "throw" but the strength of these particular scents.

Some scents are subtle (Sage & Citrus, Seventh Heaven )and no matter how large the candle or how well they throw, they will always be subtle....IMO- these type scents make beautiful candles for smaller spaces where their scent wont get lost in the atmosphere.

Some scents are powerful (Mango Sorbetto, Red Currant ) and make their presence known and IMO-these type scents are perfect for large, open spaces because they need room to spread out.

I hope this clears things up.

I try to post as much info as I can in order to be helpful.

  4. I made a tester candle with it. I used 4627, 10% fo. I tried both the zinc wick and an rrd and got a better throw with the hotter rrd wick. The throw was excellent.

The scent reminded me of the apple cobbler, but with more spices. It was more apple than yanks harvest and of course the throw was better than a yank.

  5. I loved WSP, but it was so expensive. About $32/lb. I only bought a 2 oz bottle, which I think was $5.95. I made tarts and they were fabulous. I also made mp soap...loved it too. I made it 6 months ago and it still smells.

  6. I purchased numerous samples for CS. I also did the prebuy at FOH-Christmas in July. I also bought a Bargain Buster scent from WSP, as well as a new vanilla.

    Here's my take:

    CandleScience

Pumpkin Souffle ...................excellent throw...smells burnt pumpkin

Asian Amber ...................excellent throw..nice masculine scent

Tuscan Melon and Apricot ............excellent throw...........fruit scent

    Antique Sandalwood ..............excellent throw..........woodsy scent

    Baby Powder..............excellent throw..................baby powder scent

    Gardenia...........excellent throw.........smells like gardenia lotions I've smelled

Golden Rose .......wicked up to rrd 37......excellent throw...nice light rose

    Himalayan Bamboo ..........excellent.................greens/woodsy

    Lavender 1 oz..................excellent throw............lavendar

    Mistletoe 1 oz.................excellent throw...............christmastime

    Palm Tree 1 oz...............excellent throw...........coconut and something?

Sweet Pea 1 oz...........wicked up to rrd 37.....very good throw...light scent

    FOH

Sweet & Sexy......................very good throw but light scent

Autumn Harvest..........wicked up to rrd 37................excellent

    Grandma's House............excellent throw.............gingerbread,spice

Mistletoe Kisses......excellent throw.....greens, pine, maybe eucalypt or mint?

    Snowdrift Berries...........excellent throw........greens, pine, berry

Spice Cranberry......excellent......in wax the cranberry is more pronounced.

    WSP

Mango Papaya.........excellent throw......but it's no Mango Sorbetto (IMO)

Vanilla Romance......excellent throw......perhaps the nicest vanilla ever!

First, as you can see, I was able to get everything to throw in my 4627 at 10% fo with a low smoke zinc wick. I only had to use a hotter rrd wick on 3 oils.

The sad truth.....I didn't find a new favorite. All of the oils were pleasant enough, just none of them made me swoon. I didn't care for CS Palm Tree.

I think that I am not much for harvest, apple, pumpkin type smells so that may be why I am not swooning. Also, I am not much for pines, etc.

I did love, love, love the Vanilla Romance from WSP and I am not a Vanilla person.

I also loved the Snow Berries from FOH.

My two faves from CS were mistletoe and baby powder.

My next plan of action is to use the remaining .9oz of my samples and make

tarts. Sometimes when I use/live with my tarts for awhile, I change my mind.

But, like I said, everything was pleasant enough but none of the new oils stole my heart away from my old loves.

    Just my take,

  7. These candles that I made were extremely tiny.....1 oz wax/.1 oz fo in tiny containers appx 1.5" diameter and therefore I tested in small quarters....what impressed me with the oils was how fast they filled their respective rooms, ie, 15 min or 30 min. I wanted to test a large number of oils with the wax/wick combo without using a ton of wax. In my very limited experience, a tiny candle that can fill a small room with scent in appx 15 min has "killer" throw.

PS---I just finished testing 12 New Candlescience oils, as well as six new FOH oils. Since my method of testing is so below par, I will not post results. However, anyone interested in knowing what I thought, can PM me and I will let you know how the oils did.

  8. Actually, the I have 3 Moonlight Paths from 3 diff suppliers. Two smell identical (AH/RE and FOH) and are dead on dupes to the BBW version....and they are two that I can't get to throw. I have another Moonlight Path from Tony's...it's not a dead on dupe...but it does throw.

The actual BBW Moonlight path candle itself is a poor thrower...one large 17 oz candle struggles to fill a bedroom....

Maybe it's just the nature of this oil?

I will still use the oil...just not in candles....I will make tarts with it because it is a beautiful fragrance (IMO).

  9. I make my tarts using igi 4786, with 10 % fo. The tart molds are 2.25" diameter and ea. tart weighs about .8 oz when cooled. I get about 3-4 burns (3-4 tealights, 4 hours each) or about 12-16 hours frome each tart.

I once made tarts (AH/RE Avalanche) at 7.5% bec I was told this was a really strong oil. I was only able to use the tart twice. It hadn't occured to me, until after, that % fo, doesn't only affect scent throw/strength of tarts but will also affect how long they can be used effectively. This was just my experience.

  10. Well, I did it.

I tested every single fragrance oil I have (about 60 scents). All, but three had either excellent or very good hot throw.

I had to come up with some sort of method because I didn't like the prospect of making batches of 3 or 4 candles before I tested for throw.

Here's what I used. Igi 4627, 10% fo, low smoke zinc wick (#31), small 3 oz jars (2" diameter).

Here's what I did. I weighed out appx 1 ounce wax in the small containers. I placed the containers in a shallow pot of water to melt the wax. When wax was completely melted, I waited another minute or two. I then added .1 oz fo and mixed with a small latte mixer. http://www.amazon.com/Aerolatte-002-To-Go-Black/dp/B0001RT2C4

I then did the best I could to center the wick. I wasn't really concerned with melt pool so much as I was with scent throw. If I know it can throw, then I can work on melt pool, etc. I waited for the tester candles to cool. I did not cure as I use paraffin.

I then proceded to test/burn each candle in small bedrooms or bathrooms. I checked after 15 min. If room was filled with scent, then I called this excellent throw. If room was not filled with scent, I checked again at 30 min. If room was then filled with scent, I called this very good throw. If room was not filled with scent, then I remade the candle with a larger (hotter) wick. I used either rrd 47 or eco 8 as these were the only ones I had. I then checked the new wick/wax combo at 15 minutes and 30 minutes, again calling the candles either excellent or very good throwers, respectively.

I'm listing my results, for anyone interested.

I was so happy that all my oils had great thow. I mean these were some small candles (one ouncers) and yet they still filled up small rooms with scent. The only two that I wasn't happy with throw were Moonlight Path and Seventh Heaven. These two happen to be a couple of my favorite scents, so I will continue to make tarts with them.

Every one kept saying/writing that they liked the zincs with the 4627 comfort blend wax. My results seemed to fall in line with this.

It was really alot of fun, testing this way.

I now have all my candlescience samplers to try out as well as the FOH prebuy holiday scents...so I guess it's gonna be another busy weekend!

  11. We had a pizza place and used them. I remember paying appx $12/mo. Then each transaction had it's 25 cent & 1.7 % fee . An $80 trnxn would cost appx $1.75. A bit less than the lady above mentioned, but you still have that monthly fee. I guess it really depends on how many transactions you do a month. If you did less than twenty, it would actually cost more to have the machine. Also there is the cost of the machine. I purchased the credit card machine (used, for appx $125) and, therefore, had no equipment fee. Our money was normally in our bank acct two days after trnxn.
