  1. OK Cool!! Do zinc core wicks work in pillars too? Out of curiosity which wax do you use?
  2. Thanks for all the help, the confusing thing is that they seem to measure wick differently here in the UK, so I dont know what these measurements are in our terms! LOL!! here they are measured like 3x16C, 3x18C, 3x20C etc... (the C stands for cotton) So do you think I would stand a better chance using zinc cored wick?? I have found a store in the UK that sells zinc core that is 44-24-18!! Shall I try that out?
  3. the diameter is 3" LOL just so you know one teaspoon = 5ml so 15ml is 3 teaspoons!! What wick do you all use????
  4. so what would you recommend for a 3" diameter candle?
  5. i used 15ml of fragrance oil in 10oz of wax what type of wax would you say is the best to use? i used the recommended size wick for the width of the candle and i trimmed the wick to a 1/4 inch. So do you think it might be the parafin wax?
  6. I have made a 2nd candle after my 1st attempt smoked alot, I used a smaller wick 3x18C Cotton Core (last time I used 3X20C) which I dipped in wax before pouring. 10oz beaded paraffin wax Maraschino Cherry Fragrance Oil 1/2 Cinnamon Red Colour Chip When I lit the candle it started flickering alot (the flame didnt stay steady) and there was ALOT of smoke like my 1st ever attempt!! I followed advice of using a smaller wick and it hasnt helped!!
  7. I attempted to make a simple container candle which was 2.75 inches tall and 3 inches diameter. I used: 10oz Beaded Paraffin Wax 15ml Marachino Cherry FO 3x18C Cotton Core Wick 1/2 Reddig-Glo Color Chip - Cinnamon Red I melted the wax to 180 deg F, added my color chip and FO (whilst this was melting I preheated the glass container at 100 deg C in the oven) I then took out the glass, poured the wax, tapped the container to release air bubbles and poked relief holes once it was 'thick' enough to do so!! Once it was ready for the re-pour I noticed that the wax had become seperated from the bottom of the glass and had formed 'bubbles' along the bottom edges However the wax was perfectly sealed to the edge of the glass around the top!! Has anyone else had this problem and knows how to prevent it from happening again? Thanks!!
  8. I trimmed the wick to a smaller size than in the picture and it has stopped smoking now!! I used Beaded Paraffin Wax and a 3 x 20 Square Braided wick. Thanks for the help!!
  9. Hi everyone, I have just started making candles and as my 1st attempt I decided to make a square pillar (3" x 3" x 3") following the instructions off this site. As you can see there is a horizontal line running halfway up the candle, this is when I was pouring and ran out of wax so I quickly had to melt a new batch!! LOL!! My main question however is this: As you can see the flame is quite large and I noticed it was smoking alot, I have trimmed the wick and it still smokes like mad!! Do you know how to reduce the amount a candle smokes??
