  1. I have lost my chart somewhere.

    My question is....

    I am testing a 20/80 Soy/Paraffin wax.

and I currently use 51-32-18 wicks but they don't seem to be hot enough for this wax. I need just a tad hotter.

Can someone tell me what wick is just a small step up hotter than these?

They don't have to be zincs, I do have some others and if I don't have it, I will get it.

    TIA

  2. Thought I had posted this here a few days ago but I must have been dreaming it!!! lol

I have never done soaps and like most, I am going to start with melt and pour. Is there a way to get it to look like the CP (I think you call it that)

    The ruff cut looking bars?

    TIA

Just noticed I can't spell or type today...... since when did pour become puur? Gosh

  3. I did some research and found out that if you want to use wood wicks you have to contact Old Virginia Candle and they have to give you permission to use them and if they grant it, they will tell you who to contact. They have the direct patent on them.

I did find out what kind of wood is used. They are popsickle sticks. BUT, they are of course specially treated. The other thing I found out is that there are only approximately 3 wax in the WORLD that will burn properly with them.

Old Virginia doesn't use their regular wax for it.

  4. To date, tomorrow is always another story, Coogar prices are the same as when I bought my first.

I can tell you that at least with Coogar, I have a digital thermometer prob in my melter 24/7 and it has never fluxed more than 1.2 degrees either way. I have this in their for my own purpose. It is a digital temp that is on the unit that you set. I have ran these as low as 3 inches of wax in the bottom. I have three units from him. I have the 100 pound melter and I have a 25 gallon melter. Along with I have his Mark 6 pour pumper.

He tells you that it is for the better of his units to run them 24 hours. He did state that if your not going to use the content for a week or so, you can shut them down if you want to. It takes as much to run his big melter as it does to run your coffee pot.

The outside of the units never get hot. And I really like that they are square. In the big melter I will load up 6 -8 cases every few days. and the little one that holds my votive wax only... I load up 2 times a week with 2 cases.

I have friends that have water jackets and they say the problem they have is that it throws off way to much heat and it takes 3 times as long to melt their wax then ours does.

It is definitely a personal thing, it was just my opinion, observation and experiences that I have had personally.

I am sure water jackets have their pros and cons too.

I am told but never owned one that CES makes a good water jacket... Taylored Concepts carries them and the RiteHete direct heat he carries to.

  5. I will never purchase another Wenesco! I will be returning it and getting a full refund. They said they're going to return it to Wenesco. From what I gathered in our conversation, this is not an uncommon occurance.

    Pathetic.

I don't personally like water jackets as you have to keep an eye on your water level, second they run externally hotter than direct heat. Also, it has been proven time and time again that direct heat melters can run 24 hours on and on as long as there is wax in it vs. water jacket.

The link below is coogar products. He manufacturers his own stainless steel units for years. Alabaster doesn't sell them but owns numerous of them.

I have two, their largest real big one and their smallest one. I never turn them off and they have been running for over a year.

The owner, Scott, will guarantee them forever. They have double safety temperature gauges on them so they will never go over a danger temperature. Here is a link to some of the information he gives you about them http://www.coogarproducts.com/products/melters/melter.htm

I think they are one of the best for there money. And the part I like best is they are square or oblong and cases and or single slabs can be inserted as is and no need to break it up. JMO, hope this helps.

(If you want to, you can tell him I told you to call) it is best to call him vs. email him. You may have to leave a voice mail but he will call you back.

  6. I noticed that the shipping was unusually expensive, as well. There went the savings!

The part I don't like is the have a $2.00 service charge and it doesn't mention it anywhere. When you are checking out if you do the shipping calculator, it will give you a price but then AFTER you pay for it, if you look at your paid invoice it is exactly $2.00 higher. I am not saying they don't have the right but it should be mentioned or hidden in shipping costs from the beginning. JMO

  7. I would try these guys:

    http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=17

Check about 3/4 of the way down the page for the bigger capacity scales. These guys have so many scales it's hard to just get through them all.

I've got 2 of the ultraweigh 35's that we use for everything imaginable - shipping, weighing wax, etc. You could even go with the 55 that will weigh over 50 lbs, and it's still under $50.

I ditto Old Will Knot, I have 2 from them, a floor 265# max one and a table top Ultraship 75# max one. Both are great, they are both from My Scale brands. I like them because they give me a life time guarantee if I hang onto the guarantee cards and recipes. Plus I found them to be cheapest in price and shipping.

  8. When I think of this it makes me growl....grrrrr

So much to do, so many plans ahead.

I am working on getting away from the apothecary jar and going with sleek, slender jars. Getting ready to introduce my new logo.

Want to add aromotherapy candles and sometime or another B&B line.

Been testing a new wax and think I am really liking it!!!

Have a new compact catalog ready for printing, but gotta finish getting rid of the old ones first.

Also working on introducing by the end of the year a new company, a candle supply line. Mostly scents and jars. Along with a small line to start of silicone molds.

But mostly working on getting a business loan and moving it all out of the house and into a commercial warehouse/building.

That is the major part of the list...not to mention about 300 sample scents on the shelf waiting for testing, geez.... where does one begin.

The delemas of being a business owner....:undecided

  9. One of my best friends is expired credit cards, used up gift cards or casino tracking cards.....

If I get wax all over my work station, after it hardens, just scrap it up with a card. Wipe the card clean and ready to go again

Labels have be come a part of my body. I have learned to label everything, if I am in a hurry I will write on it with a sharpie or smack a temp label on it. I have labels in the work shop, labels in my stock room, labels at my desk....labels everywhere, same with note pads, note pads everywhere.

I am way over 40 and have been blessed with the great forgetful mind. SO "the minute I thinked it, is the minuted I writeded it!!!"

My saying is.... don't move till you have written it down!

  10. Can anyone tell me where you get these made?

You know the tumbler or roly poly type candles you see in the stores and they have that thick plastic on top that is kind of adhered to the rim?

I know Taylored Concepts have them but they are to small for what I need them for so I was curious if anyone knows where I could get them or get them made?

    TIA

  11. I make silicone molds and some items pending on shapes and where the shapes curve in or out may not be able to slide out of a one piece mold. So we make a two piece mold and hold them together with just rubber bands. You don't want them to tight as they will misshape the mold and the final product.

We don't advertise yet that we make molds because our candle supply website is not ready to launch yet, should be after the first of the year. We will eventually have pictures of the molds with rubberbands and how to pour them correctly.

It is a PITA but I also enjoy the challenge of figuring out which way to make a two part mold to make the final product mold the best!
