  1. Yankee stopped making fireside a few years ago. Its a hard scent for me to discribe, it doesnt smell like campfire, it does remind me of a fireplace burning but has more to it then that ( to me a fireplace and campfire dont smell the same) I got some campfire and dont like it at all, campfire reminds me of old rotten dirty wood burning, lol I would call it a more manly smell. I burned it all the time when Y had it but I found that it was one of those scents that some loved some hated. I have some tarts poured up in it if you would like I could send you one.

  2. Hi everyone

I searched and still couldnt find much on this subject. I have some candles that I would like to remelt and rewick. What is the best way? I was thinking oven? Do you have to let them cure again? If you melted them at a very low temp would they lose thier throw?

I have a number of candles that have been curing for 1-2 months that have great throw but when I first strted I got in a hurry with wicks and did not wick them right, Iv tested now and know which wicks work with these and wanted to reuse them. I dont like just sticking a new wick through the whole becuase I dont feel its as safe as an wick thats been stuck to the bottom and I will be sharing these with family and want them safe.TIA

  3. fireside is my all time favrote candle scent, I was very upset when Ycandles stopped making it. When I decided to give candle making a go it was the first fo I ordered, I get a great scent from my tarts but still cant get it to throw in a container candle using soy. I think its one of those scents that some love and others cant stand, lol. My home is very rustic and cabin looking and to me its a perfect scent for my home :)

  4. Feeling a bit better about the wax tonight :) I tested some of the candles I made yesterday and could smell them!!

    I had good throw with

    vanilla velvet

    maple special

    hot cocoa

    apples and oak

    cranberry spice

    mistletoe

    a northwoods xmas

    got very faint throw from

    log cabin

    woodland trail

tried one with toasted marshmellows and campfire smoke and almost burned out some nose hairs trying to smell it, no scent at all

I had candles going in every room :) me and my daughter would check on the smells, she thought it was fun :)

I feel a bit less of a failure now, lol, but fireside is still bugging me, Im going to try a few other waxes with it.

  5. OK y'all I need help from a pro please

Been working with the same fo for a few weeks trying to get it right, eco advance wax not the new, heat to 190, add dye ( I've also tried without dye) then add the fo 1.5 oz fireside, have also tried 1 oz, cool to 150 then pour without wick, because I've been trying different wicks, all eco's... after I pour I cover with a box to slow down cooling, when its cool, I cap and let cure for a least a week, some have cured 2. at 1 oz I couldnt get a cold throw at 1.5 I do, but still no hot throw unless Im standing right over it. eco 8 seems to do the best, I get about 3/8 melt pool in 3-4 hours, nothing on the sides.

Has anyone tried this scent in soy and had it throw? Why is it that I can take the leftover wax without curing it and put it on my candlewarmer and get great throw but not in a candle? Is it because the warmers melt a bigger wax pool? I can also zap it with my heat gun and smell it. Should I try a different brand of wick or just assume it wont throw in soy? I really want this scent to work because its my all time favorite. btw it works great in tarts using the eco soy pillar wax.

    Help please!

  6. thanks everyone for your replies, the labels havent came in yet so Im not sure how well it will show up on the paper. As soon as I get them I'll print and find out. The letters I can make darker and larger if need be. Its a photo turned into a drawing of our home, which we call Pine Lodge Im not sure how much darker I can make it but will play with it more after I see how it prints.

  7. the name Im going with is the name of our home so it was easy for me

Pine Lodge Candle Co, I used a photo of our home on the label too. It'll be a long time before Im ready to sell candles but I plan on having cabin/lodge decor also, its something not easily found in our area when I decorated our home I had to get everything online.

  8. I'd say you run the risk of that happening anywhere, but if you want critiques and so forth, you're gonna have to let go of some of the paranoia. You can always cross out or blank certain bits of info through photo editing programs. And you can always, what is it watermark?, a photo so it would make it more of a pain for some potential thief.

Thanks for the advice I guess I was being a bit paranoid :) anyway I decided to go ahead and see what people thought.

  9. OK this may be a dumb question, I've been working on a few projects while testing candles one of which is a label and company name so that if I ever get the candle part right ( maybe in the next century, lol ) I will have this all figured out, plus it helps pass the time between tests.

I would love to get feedback from you pros on the name and label but worry about the safety of it, I dont mean this as an insult to anyone I've been reading this forum for weeks and can see there are many many wonderful folks in here but I also know that not all folks on the internet are nice and honest, so my question is, do you feel comfortable posting you're company name and label in forums and would it be possible for a not honest person to save and use your pic? I hope I have not offended anyone with this question.

  10. Hello! I am new here, just had a quick question please. I am using the ecosoya vb, could anyone tell me please why my votives and even tarts after setting up, settle and have a round crack on the top around the wick. I cant get them to not have that round crack. Any suggestions? Also, in your opinions, what do you find to be the BEST 100% soy wax for strong scented votives? Thanks!

    Laura

Hi Laura Im new too :) Also trying this wax and mine are cracking right across the middle in an almost perfect straight line. Not all of them, but some. Hope you get it figured out soon. Sorry I cant be any help Im still trying to figure it out too :) I think my problem is I first used a parf wax blend for tarts and just heated, adding fo and poured right away, then popped in the freezer to cool, perfect every time, but I wanted to try a soy blend and tried doing them the same way, not working, lol. I'm going to try cooling before pouring today. Best of luck to you.

  11. hi everyone

Im very new to candle making, right now Im still testing my first candles.

I'm used ecosoy advance cb, 1 oz of fo per lb. (fireside) 2 smoke dye chips.

I heated to 180, added dye stirred then fo, stirred about 1 minute poured at 150 in a smooth sided 8 oz jj. I didnt wick at this time. Covered with a box and let cool slowly.

When candle was cool it had a very large hole, zapped with a heat gun, put a lid on and let it cure 1 week.

Opened not much scent throw, first burn I tried eco8 ( wicked using a knitting needle to make hole then putting in wick) seemed to burned ok ( Im only working on scent throw right now) but no smell while burning, burned about 3 hours, pulled out wick, let harden.. next day I tried eco10, still seemed to burn ok but no scent. I'm at a loss on if I should try eco12, it seems like a very large wick.

I used to left over wax on a warmer plate and the smell was great so I'm guessing my problem is wicking.

Yesterday I made 2 more test candles and tried adding crisco ( 1 tsp.) and yvbar 260 (1/8 tsp) just to see what would happen, heating and pour temp the same as before didnt use dye this time they are curing now. Can anyone tell me what I could try next. Im not looking for an easy way out, I enjoy doing this, just a nodge in the right direction. Sorry this is so long and TIA.

    Kim
