  1. I am just getting started at this also. I highly recomend as does everyone else that you DO NOT make that big of an order right away. Try to order some scent samples that you can try out. There are a ton of variables that change for every candlemaker. My big issue right now is finding the right wick. Some scents will have a great cold throw but not a good hot throw. The last thing you want is to order a bunch of supplies that you can't use because of one reason or another.

I don't want to discourage you but take your time reading all the posts on this site. I have been researching this for about 4-5 months now and have been testing for about 2 months. Visit other sites and read some candle making tips. Get a book on candlemaking too. They have ones dedicated to the craft and to the business. Right now I am reading Candlemaking for Fun and Profit.

It can be a great hobby and business but it can also become very expensive if you just start ordering materials without testing their effectiveness. Don't rush things and have a great time learning a new craft!

  2. I also wanted to add to make sure you get a lot of sample wick packs before you order a bunch of one kind. A lot of people have different issues with wicking soy wax. I started with the ECO wicks and have used hemp cored and also the RRD's, all with no luck. I think I am close to narrowing my problem down to the dyes in the wax however, and not the wicks. :undecided

  3. I just started using the EcoSoya Waxes. The Pure Soy I use for my containers and the Pillar Blend I use for my votives. (I haven't made any pillars yet, one step at a time lol) My first votives came out nice. I used the metal molds with the wick pins and they released easily and looked good. The cold throw was excellent however the hot throw was so-so. I was going to attach a picture but for some reason I am not allowed to do so? If you want let me know and I will email it to you.

  4. Ok, I knew this day would come. :o I had my first wax spill last night, what a freaking mess!! They soy is easier to clean up when spilled.......easier than what?????...LMAO!! I have never worked with other waxes yet so I don't have any other spills to compare. I do know that I will probably be finding spots I missed years from now. Oh well, live and learn right!;)
