  1. I used to store mine in zip locked bags also. Then my supplier told me that storing scented chunks and/or leftover wax in zip lock bags draws the scent out of the wax.

Now I store mine in aluminum foil. Works great for me.

However, I have plastic storage containers that I got from the dollar store and store all my votives in them. Doesn't seem to draw the scent out.

  2. I should have elaborated on the description but I was rushing to a nail appointment :grin2: .

They are scented Rose. First I tried sticking the hearts on with the hot glue gun...UGH!! Alls they did was slide off. Then tried wax. What a disaster that was!! My supplier suggested mod podge and that it would burn w/o any problems. Well that worked. After testing them, they burned great. It's amazing how long something that looks so simple can take weeks to get it right.

Thank you all for your compliments.

  3. Thank you for the info Candle Man.

Jane, I get my wax locally at Crockett Honey here in Arizona.

The owner does test every shipment she gets in. I know that for a fact as I have been there when she was testing. Even when she gets different lot #'s in she will test each lot. She is very good at that. Has been making candles for a very long time. A wealth of informtion. I did call her today and she basically said the same thing Candle Man posted.

  4. I am beginning to really hate this wax. First I had problems with the wicks mushrooming. After I finally got that somewhat corrected, I began to make up my orders. It seems the 2nd slap of wax has water in it. At firsr I thought it was me and did something stupid and got water into the pot. After straining it w/coffee filters I thought I was good to go...NOT!! I started a new batch in another pot and sure enough there it was water again.

Has this happened to anyone? Is this common?

  5. Sorry, I should have clarified that I am double wicking these containers. The package reads 2-3" for CD7s. I came to the conclusion that the CD8s are just too big. I am going to try the CD6s and see how they do.

The containers are round, i.e., 3-1/2" mouth, 4-1/2 middle and 2-3/4 bottom.

I mainly do pillars and not a whole lot of containers. So I am still learning. Especially with this wax. I just ran out of the J50 and my local supplier now only carries the 4630 so that is what I have to work with.

In the past I haven't had much luck using a single wick in containers. I never seemed to get a full melt pool no matter how large of a wick I put in. I do have CD10, CD12, CD14s.

These are not sooting just mushrooming. I am getting a good scent throw. Today they have reached the middle and still got a good pool of wax.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

  6. I'm going to try and wick down. Right now I'm getting a decent pool.

As far as the FO, I use 1 oz/lb. Have been told I could go up to 1-1/2 oz/lb, however, at 1 oz I always got a good scent throw and no burning problems.

This is my first time working w/the 4630. Have always used the J50 in the past.

    Thank you,

  7. Hi All,

I don't post that much here but I sure read everything on this board.

I've been making candles now for about 7 years.

After purchasing several store bought candles, I thought I could save some money and melt all the leftover wax and make a candle. Went to Michaels and got some wick. Melted down all the candle in a sauce pan (yep not a double boiler). Poured it into a cup and presto, there was my first candle. Didn't burn worth of chit.

Well then I decided to buy a slab of wax, vybar, stearic acid and wick from a store that sells candles. Went to Michaels again to get some FO. No instructions on how much additives to use. So I figure for a pound of wax, lets see how about I put in 1/2 cup of vybar. Don't remember how much stearic acid I used. Again, didn't burn worth of chit. I still keep that candle to remind me how "INEXPERIENCED" I was.

I am very fortunate to have a local supplier and she is also my mentor. If it wasn't for her and this board, I'd probably be doing the same things wrong.

I am continously testing and learning. The testing never ends. Every year I sell the same Halloween containers and every year I retest them.

I go to a real job 5 days a week This is my hobby and parttime business. I do sell and the money I do make most of it goes back into supplies.

Just wanted to share this w/you.

    Thanks,

    Wendy
