  1. I was really busting my butt trying to find clip art I could use. That first one was part of a clip art that I had to buy for $250 to use royalty free...so I just drew it by hand, scanned it and tried to shade it in on the computer to look real..hehehehehehe, I did a sucky job so I just went with the flow and made it abstract. Things got a lot easier when my dad sent me real pictures of his own flowers that I could use. Christina
  2. Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Thanks for asking! I've liked them all, till someone with more experience told me what was wrong with them...then I saw all the faults and didn't like them so much anymore. Anyway, I guess I like the newest one with the flower the best at the moment....although my mother didn't like the flower there...it has all the vibrant nature colors, and the elegant writing as well. My husband said to darken the flower a bit, which I did, to make it stand out. It looks nice, so I guess, just imagine the flower a tad darker... One question, should I be making the border go all the way around, or just the top and bottom? Christina
  3. oops, and instead of "soaps" it's supposed to be "products"....man, I'm blind... Christina
  4. whoops, I accidentally erased part of that "e"....don't mind that, I'll fix it. Christina
  5. ok, here are some more. This is the last suggestion... Thanks for looking and all the great advice! I'm obviously not very good at this. Christina
  6. Ok, I've been trying to take everyones advice. Here are some other logos... I'd appreciate anymore ideas/critisism that you might have Christina
  7. I need opinions, ect. Is it too retro or plain! Does the flower look too...unsmooth (not a word but whatever). Thanks for looking and you'll have to scroll down a bunch (couldn't figure out how to crop it properly), sorry! Christina
  8. I think I spelling that right. It's supposed to be used in skin lightening products. I don't know where to get it. Does anyone else buy it? Or know where a good place to get it is? Christina
  9. Wow!!!! That Box Bliss place has awsome stuff! Thanks for the link! Christina
  10. Thank you for your reply. That is a lot of good information. My temps for the last batch were higher than normal (not by much, just 110 and 120 approx.). I always scramble to mix my lye into my oils if they're showing below 100 (which happens a lot). But perhaps it's better that way. I'll try it. And I'm definitly going to try your other suggestions. Well, after all that, the batch turned out lovely (no swirls but nice and creamy). So, it seems this soap is really easy to fix if something happens. Christina
  11. Ok, I tried this recipe twice (after subbing some things and coming up wiht almost the exact same qualities on soapcalc), and each time it has seized on me in some way. The first time I was using a rose essential oil so I assumed it was that reason. I turned around for a second and when I got back my stick blender was stuck in it! I was able to save it and it turned out really nice. The second time (and this was just an hour ago), It was starting to serperate, which I am contributing to the fragrance oil (which I've used before with no problems) being added after it was getting really thick. I stopped blending it at a really thin trace (took about a minute) becuase I was expecting it to thicken really fast...anyway, I ditched the swirls and had to stick blend it in the mold to get it smooth again. It's in a nice gel now and I'm hoping it'll be smooth. Has anyone else had this problem? I think I',m just gonna have to leave this one uncolored. If I'd poured it at that thin trace, I don't think I'd have had the problem....sigh. Next time I guess. Christina
  12. I've got a question. Which kind of Krylon do you use? And where do you get it? And how do you use it...do you just spray it on, without worrying where it gets? I really prefer clear labels and would like to make them waterproof somehow. Christina
  13. Jennifer, where exactly do you live? I saw that the link you gave was in Edmonton, so I assume you live close to there. Christina
  14. Thank you so much for the info! I'm always trying to weedle it out of people that we know who live there. I'm really glad to hear about the snow! It's still snowing here (ugh) and during this winter, our front door was snowed in twice (up to the doorknob), and the drifts were level with our second floor window. I'm really happy to hear about the job thing. We'd prefer to live in a small town. I'm not a city girl (probably due to growing up in greenwood). But I like living close enough that I can visit without it being a big deal. We're looking at raymond or cardston or somewhere close. We thought we'd have to live in a city to get a job (or commute). So, that is good news. Where do you see the postings? We need to be applying soon and we haven't found anything online for the small communities. I'm really excited about all the stuff alberta has to offer. I might take you up on that dining info even if we don't "live" there. I hear there are tons of places to go dancing (without it being a bar). I'm so excited!!!! We've looked into taber as well. It seems to have good priced houses. I remember getting a walmart in greenwood, sigh, what a to do that was. Christina
  15. SoapDiva, I can get Lye at home hardware no problem. It's the potash that I can't find. I called a chemical warehouse and the minimum I can order is a 25 kg bag which they would have to special order for me. They haven't gotten a price for me yet. There is one other place that sells lab chemicals but I'd be spending $28/lb for the potash (KOH). I don't think home hardware carries potash... I will be moving to southern Alberta. Not positive where yet. My husband is just finishing school (his B of Ed, finally) and that's where we want to settle. Since we haven't had the opportunity to scout out the area, we need to crash in my parents basement and look around first (not going to be fun with 3 kids). Since they havne't moved there yet either (they'll be moving in July), I"m still unsure...but most likely lethbridge for the first little year. Christina
  16. KittyKat, I buy from Tracey as well. When I first started getting into soaping I bought from the states becuase I thought everything was cheaper there. But just the other day I finally took the time to relaly look at the prices and figure out the exchange and her FO's are mostly cheaper. She has a nice selection. I've got a package coming soon and I can't wait! She has excellent service, very personable. Christina
  17. My dad is in the military as well so I grew up in greenwood (well, was there the longest out of all the other places I lived) and it is quite small (takes about 5 mins to drive out of the town...I mean, village). You're not likely to find anything there. I live in newfoundland right now and the closest supplier I can find is in ontario...I'm having a heck of a time getting potassium hydroxide because no one will ship it air (and living on an island really lowers my odds). I can't wait to move to alberta (in the next few months) so I can buy to my hearts content. Right now I buy from Kangaroo blue. Even with the exchange and shipping her prices are lower (stinks to pay a customs fee everytime I get a package though). Christina
  18. How do I get the water to 170? I stuck it in tthe microwavefor approx 30 mins in all and it only ever "just" got to 170 and started going down the second I took it out (which is why I left it in for so long). Am I supposed to be doing this on the stove? Christina
  19. Ok, I need advice on instructions as well. I've never made anything but Whipped shea before so I've never had to use "lotion making instructions" before. I read Bunny's instructions but since I'm not using aloe juice, do I need to heat the water and hold it? Can I do this on a double boiler? OR will that not make it hot enough? I need REALLY basic instructions. Something I can use for different recipes. I looked online but they all say to just melt everything but the fo, preservative and cornstarch, then to whip it and then add the last 3 things. So...can anyone simplify this for me? I've been dying to make this recipe! Christina
  20. Thanks Maryann, That's exactly the info I was looking for. I just kept thinking, this stuff turns to a lotion when liquid gets to it, what's it going to do when it gets into his belly? The lady didn't even know what I was talking about when I was trying to tell her the ingredients I used. Christina
  21. Thank you for your advice. I agree, it's silly to go to a forum to ask important questions like this and have thought the same thing on other boards when other women have done it ("I think I'm crowning, what do I do"). I was just confused. My instinct and basic knowledge of the ingeredients told me he'd be fine, but I continued to worry so I came here hoping for advice from people with more knowledge about these ingredients. Yes, I did make the product, but only made it once and it was a long time ago. It was only a tester and for personal use so I didn't bother labeling it. I did call poison control, of course, and was told that nothing was toxic, as I already knew. But I was still worried as I've heard stories about seemingly safe things being ingested and people dying, not because they were toxic, but because of texture or whatnot. Obviously the only thing the lady told me was that it wasn't toxic. Christina
  22. Mine doesn't seem to have anything in it, which I was expecting after reading on so many different sites. Christina
  23. My kids got into an emulsified sugar scrub and my baby ate some! I'm really worried! Can someone tell me if he'll be alright? I believe if had polowax and stearic acid in it (as well as cocoa butter and sugar), some vegitable oil, and no fragrance oil... Christina
