  1. I use different wicks for my jars and tins and they are the same wicks I've used for the last few months so I don't think my problem comes from the wicks but thanks for the thought.
  2. What do you do when you have a bad batch?
  3. I use NG's Joy wax and been having some problems. I ordered a new case of Joy in November and after testing to make sure it performs as usual it did not. I had a lot of black soot and there was a lot of wax left on the sides of the jar. I have been using Joy for over a year. So I called NG and they sent me another case the beginning of this month and I'm having the same problems. I've added Crisco to see if it would make a difference and it made the wax thicker and I had more wax left in the jar. Then I tried adding straight paraffin and it seems to be working but no scent throw. Does anybody know if I can add votive blend wax to it? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Gatinha
  4. After I pour fo into wax I mix very well. That is why I don't understand why this is happening with these three scents only. What kind of wick do you use?
  5. I'm doing everyhing you said and didn't have any problems with other scents. I did call NG and they told me it was the wick so I tried HTP.
  6. Hello again everyone. I have a question and hope someone can help me. I've been testing with NG Joywax and fo. I'm using 8oz jelly jars. I use 1 1/2 oz. fo with 1 lb. of wax. With certain scents when I light the wick the wick and wax catch on fire. So in minutes I have a big melting pool. NG recomends CD wick for their wax. Cinnamon I used CD-7, C-10 and HTP 73 and they all caught the wax on fire. I tried zinc 44-28-18 it did not catch on fire but wick is a little small. I'll try a bigger zinc. Orange clove I used CD-7, CD-10 and both the wax caught on fire. I tried zinc 44-28-18 too small and now I tried HTP73 and it is working great. X-mas Splendor I used CD-7 and was a little small so I tried CD-10 and it worked great. But just for curiosity I tried the zinc 44-28-18 and the wax caught on fire. I've tested 8 other scents and no problems. Just these 3. I lowered the scent to 1 oz. per lb. of wax I did not have any problems with the wax but there was not enough scent throw. Has anybody had this problem before? Does this have anything to do with the wax? I've been doing a lot of votives with the same fo, Peaks votive blend and the same zinc wick and I have not had any problems. Thanks for your help.
  7. Hello everyone, I remember seeing somewhere in here someone was sending some votives to our troops in Iraq. I was wondering if any of you know how I can do the same. Thanks.
  8. Sugar you chose your name well, so thanks for seeing my way. Like I said all I wanted to to was vent and get some advice. I was not counting on these people's opinions. And you right to say that some people seem to look down at newbies. Maybe they didn't put the wagon in front of the horse like I did but they forget they too were newbies once, even if it was 50 years ago.
  9. I'm sorry to hear that you need a newbie to make you look like a genius.
  10. I don't think I blamed NG for my problems I said that they don't seem to know their products and I think these are 2 different things. I would like to deal with a company who can answer some of my questions since I'm new at all this. If the lady had said that I probably had a bad batch of wax at least is better than "I'm not sure what to tell you". And I'm sure they are a great company for peolple who seem to know everything because all you have to do is order. You already know what to do with the stuff good or bad. Anyway, I canceled all my shows and feel sooooooooo much better. Thank you so much for all your help. I've been reading and it seems people really like 1343 wax from Peaks so I'm going to order some and start testing on one candle only. You might not hear from me for a while (what a shame:wink2: ) don't think I gave up. I'll let you know how my first candle turns out.
  11. Eugenia you have given me hope:yay:. And Amy I was not aware of what was involved in making candles so I went and pretty much bought 10 different kinds of molds and started pouring all of them. Needless to say I have problems with all of them. I did not find out about this place until it was too late. And to make matters worse, I have 5 craft shows booked starting the end of this month. And I was using Yaley wax and was not getting any scent throw so this past monday I went to Narure's Garden, which is 1h and 30 min. from my house, and bought 100 lbs. of MP145. I started testing it yesterday and as I was melting the wax there was what looked like water to me at the bottom of the pot. So I called Nature's Garden today and they don't know what is wrong with the wax so now I have to drive all the way over there to take it back:mad:. I'm very disappointed with Narure's Garden not so much because of the wax but because they don't know anything about the product they sell. And now I have over $100.00 in store credit and am forced to keeping doing business with them. So far this candle business has been very frustating and I'm afraid to keep going and not know if it will all work out and I'm afraid to give up and not know what I'm missing. So, sorry for venting and thanks for listening.
  12. The wax ran down both sides of the candle today, so I was very sad:cry2:. Donita, is that 3 tablespoon or teaspoon(just to be sure) of stearic and is that zinc core wick? Thanks for your help.
  13. Everywhere I look in this forum I see test, test and test. I guess my question is with all the testing how long did it take you guys before you sold your first candle. I've been making candles for almost a month now, 100 lbs. of wax later and couple of hundred dollars in fo's I have nothing done. The way is sounds it will take me 100 years before I can think of selling anything.
  14. I tried a bigger wick today and the candle is burning a lot slower than before. I'm using Wilton's 6" cake pan and it only comes 2" wide.
