Hi all, need a bit of quick help if you could. I found a recipe for cucumber soap I want to try and am having a hard time figuring out how much water to substitue with the cukes. Do you simply replace equal amounts of water with cucumber puree? Say I take 8 oz. of water away, do I then add 8 oz. cukes?

The reason I ask is because the recipe I found it too big, I can figure out how to reduce it in soapcalc but when I run it through the calculator it gives me the full water amount. This will be my first time replacing water with something else, just cant seem to get my head aound it yet.

I use frozen gm and get that orange color and smell too.. but it cures out a nice light cream and the odor goes away. scent is very light but wholesome with out fragrance.

At first I was afraid of how it would smell, got kind of funky smelling as I poured it, but your right it did cure out and smells quite nice now, wholesome is a good way to put it.

Here are the cut pics, I'm most pleased with the color now, turned out better than I was imagining. I think I will make this again, will just make sure to freeze my gm first next time.

Thanks guys, it didn't smell scorched to me. I mixed my lye and oils, added the gm at a really light trace and mixed some more. When I added the honey it started to change colors. I don't mind the color, think it's kind of honeyish, just thought it was wierd all of a sudden.

I just started soap not that long ago, this is my 4th batch. No scent, no dye, just has ground oatmeal, goat's milk, and of course honey. Quick question...what causes the funky color? I thought I read that the milk can cause the orange color, but I added it when my lye water was fairly cool, only 4 oz. milk in the whole batch. Just curious. Thanks for looking.

I have been searching high and low for lye locally, finally found some at my local hardwear store, by Rooto Corp. The lable says " Crystals of Household %100Lye Drain Opener". Just wanted to know if anyone else uses this brand? Is it ok? I looked online at the Rooto corp. website for an MSDS on this and can't find it. Just wanted to make sure before I use it.

I really have no room to talk as I have yet to make soap, however I would have to disagree...natural soap is awesome if done properly. All you have to do is check out the B&B gallery to see that. I think some of the cutesy 3D molded soaps are just kind of tacky looking myself. They look like they were made to sit in a bowl and look pretty and collect dust. I'd rather share my shower or bath with a great bar of natural soap than a foo foo looking bar of m&p. Just my opinion tho.

My hubby just did my pots for me too last week. I am equally as excited , I tell ya I could just kiss whoever came up with that idea

I love this scent, its not really herbal more of a fresh clean scent to me. I have had a slight issue with is smelling kind of fuel-y at times in paraffin, but otherwise I really enjoy it.

I've had decent luck with the RRD's, I think I use 34 in a 3 inch pillar. As long as I dont marathon burn the seem to do really well.

I was wondering if anyone knows where to find a certain type of ceramic container. I have purchased various types at a local Big Lots store, they are stamped "Century" and made in China on the bottom. At Christmas they had cute little loaf pans with x-mas and winter scenes printed on them, and I just picked up some that look like Chinese take out boxes with the four elements (earth, air, fire, water) printed on them in Chinese caligraphy. I've googled but no luck, just wondering if anyone knows about or has heard about these. Would like to see if I can order out-right.

I take s super sharp knife and shave the edges down just a smidge at a time til there is no more wobble and then if necessary, after I wick the candle I'll swirll the bottom around in my presto pot to smooth out any other little imperfections.

How do you think the Wildberry Zinger Tea would be in a lotion? I have my eye on that Honey Coco Mango you suggested! thanks so much!

Wildberry Zinger Tea is wonderful in a lotion...I keep a little 2 oz. bottle with me all of the time.

Some of my favs also...Basil Sage & Mint, Pink Sugar, Cinnamon Red Hot, Blueberry Cobbler (Closeout selection), and Angel Wings.

Check W-Mart, they may still have some 4 oz canning jars. I know mine still carries the 4oz quilted jellies. I think they're pretty cute.

ROFL -- spoken like a true candle junkie! I have a most hilarious visual of you brewing up a new batch of something bubbling in the basement ... very Halloween-ish & you are currently upstairs taking a break ... wearing a labcoat! I'm glad this combo is catching on & working out. Guess I better order some brewed coffee to get on the bandwagon.

I've got this blend going in my basement right now, BCN voodoo love and fresh brewed coffee. I was shocked by how good it smells, thought for sure it would be nasty but it's really not.

Now for the gazillion times I've been to NG how in the heck did I miss this one...I suspect I'll have to give it a shot just for kicks and giggles. Thank You.
