  1. First thing to do would be to look in the recipe section and choose one of the basic soap recipes, such as Quiet Girl's. Then add approx a tsp to a tbs of Oatmeal ppo to the oils and stickblend well before adding lye mixture.

    Same with the honey.

I love Goat's milk, oatmeal and honey soap. You should spend some time researching milk soap before you attempt it though. The search function will help greatly with the task.

    Have fun soaping!

  2. Thanks for finding these thread Scented! Yet more knowledge to tuck away for the future!

    Fire

I second the thanks, Scented. The Scientific Soapmaking looks interesting and I very much enjoyed the DOS experiment. You rock!

  3. if you are looking for electric tart warmers- www.candlesandsupplies.com have the 2 piece ones for very reasonable prices-much cheaper than i could get from anywhere else especially when i don't want 1/2 doz. of each style.

I wasn't the one who asked, but thank you for the link. I was just today thinking that I'd do melts instead of candles for gifts this year, so I'd need warmers to complete the gifts. This will make my gift giving so much better!

  4. I began making CPHP last summer and have never looked back. I won't use anything else for my DD or DH, either. We travel with our own soap, too! I thought I was weird that way. Good to know that among soapers I'm not too strange!

I have no desire to use commercial detergent products on my self or my family. Real soap rocks.:grin2:

  5. Oh,and the time I got lye all down my front and stripped naked and THEN opened the front door (nice sunny Saturday, whole neighborhood outside) to tell my kids to stay out of the house till I could shower and clean up. That's my favorite I think.

OMG, that's so horrible! I vote for CareBear as the winner, hands down.

I haven't been visited so terribly by the soap gremlins, as of yet. My worst experience was the time I forgot to put the fo into my beautifully colored and marbled soap. I was able to free my soap from the mold and mix in the fo, but bye bye pretty soap.:tongue2: It was cphp, too, so it's a miracle I could incorporate the fo at that point. Knock, knock, who's there? It's the soap gremlins!*faint*

Great idea for a thread, btw.

  6. Thank you all for your replies. I feel a lot better now... may actually start actually buying supplies and equipment this week. I cant use the vinyl (platex) gloveseither.

Platex gloves and vinyl exam gloves for the medical fields aren't the same thing. We have them in out dental office for the boss, who doesn't like the nitrile. Our office is latex free, as so many folks have latex allergies these days. Check out Walmart or home depot in the painting section for latex gloves. They don't have as much stretch as nitrile, and they usually cost a lot less :)

Now all you've gotta do is get soaping!

  7. I bet it would hang if you attached a ribbon at each side of the top with it hanging length wise and tied it onto the rear view mirror.

I think there are a lot of folks out there that would want one of those if they were on the market. :)

  8. IMO, the biggest difference between HP and M&P is that HP/CP has no detergents, while M&P does. Also, HP/CP offers more creative play in devising the recipe for the soap (I can spend hours on SoapCalc!), as well as the fragrance, color and additives with which you may personalize M&P.

I have used coconut oil for all of my HP and it rocks in the lather department:thumbsup: I usually get it at WalMart, it's with the regular cooking oils. You can also get a small bottle of castor oil in the pharmacy dept, but it's expensive compared to buying it in larger amounts. I get mine from Camden Gray.

You may find that ordering from an online store and paying shipping still works out to be less money than buying locally and paying for gas and taxes. HTH
