  1. Well after some thorough research I found the company that makes the Ball and Kerr Mason jars.

    http://www.jardenhomebrands.com/

They then point you to this website for retail service:

    http://www.polsteins.com/canning--jars.html

Seems the Ball Corporation got out of the glass business back in 1993 they only make metal and plastic products now.

    http://www.ball.com/

Thats when they sold the business to the Jarden Corporation, they make the Kerr and the Ball brand canning jars now.

Just an FYI for anyone interested.

  2. I know how you feel as I'm running into the same problem and My Walmart doesn't carry noe will they order jars for me. My Big Lots out too so I have to order from Fairway Glass.

I too don't want the smooth jars as I also do a country look to my pint size jars as well. And, because I don't know where those jars came from. They might be from Tiwane or Indonesia and I personally want to support Amerian supplies totally.

Fairway Glass carries the Ball Mason Jars. They have a distibutor up in Cleveland, on the west side.

I hate having to pay shipping but having a job is more important so I'll pay the shipping.

The supermarkets here charge $10.00 a case for Golden Harvest jars and I refuse to pay it.:undecided

Whew they look expensive to me.

$6.60 for a dozen of the 16 oz Ball Mason Jars w/ lids (wow )

$5.88 for a dozen jelly jars w/ lids ( not too bad)

I've been getting them from Big Lots for $5.49 a dozen, now they are out.

  3. For those of you that use canning jars for your candle making. Do you have a certain retailer you get these from all year? I have been getting my from Big Lots but it looks like they are running low and I’m afraid to ask the manager if they are going to get more in.

I tried to look for a company website for the mason jars to see if they had retailers but could not even find a website.

I don’t want to buy off the internet and incur shipping charges, I was just wondering if you knew of a retailer that stocks them all year. I went to my local Wal-Mart and they just have the quilted jelly jars that’s it. I use the jelly jars and pint jars.

I currently have been using the Golden Harvest Mason jars which I cannot find a company page for either.

    The boxes look like these. . . . .

  4. I went to my local post office today to ship out some candles and the clerk told me if I were to package it in a Priority Box they have, no matter how much it would weigh, or how much I could stuff in it, no matter where in the country it will going it would be a flat rate of $7.70.

I did not know this and saved a good bit of money, just wanted to pass along in case it may help someone eles.

This is from the USPS website.

  5. I poured some candles with the J225 this past weekend.

1.) NO WET SPOTS so far, they have already turned up on the ones I poured with the J223 but none so far with the J225

2.) It does seem to be harder to color, I really like the way the J223 Colors. But this is not biggie to me.

3.) On Pour Wax? This failed my test. I think my J223 is a better our pour compared to this. With the 8 oz Jelly it sank, and with the 16 oz big sink hole. Normally with the J223 I have no sink with the 8 oz, and with the 16 oz very little, have to flatten with heat gun. But I would not consider this a one pour with my experience.

4.) Scent throw, the Cold Throw I can tell no difference, hot throw cured now for close to 4 days I can not tell a difference either.

The only thing I can see that is a plus on this is the NO WET SPOTS. other than that I really like my 223 better for now.

  6. I promise I am going to try my sample this weekend. I have been so busy with work, and just got back from Vacation over Labor Day. Have not made any candles in two weeks, But I have to make some this weekend not doubt about it. I will post my results how they turn out. Hopefully there will not be any wet spot's as the ad claims wouldn't that be great!:cheesy2:

Ohh yeah they send you an 11lb slab as a sample so I should get quite a few 8 oz jars out of that to test

  7. I meant to post on this earlier today but got sidetracked. Yes this was just a rumor according to the email we received today from IGI. I believe there was probably just a misunderstanding when someone there mentioned discontinuing the Astor waxes... they are only going to stop making them in their Texas plant' date=' but that does not mean that they are completely dropping those waxes all together. They will still be produced in their PA plant. The only way they will drop any of the J series waxes is if they don't end up selling enough of them, but that would be far off in the future if it ever was to happen. The Texas plant not producing these waxes will not affect us carrying them [/quote']

Got this off another Board, just an FYI

  8. It only makes good Business sense to continue to sell and market the Astorlite Brand Container waxes. Even thought IGI now owns the Astorlite name, it has a good reputation in the market place.

I have a feeling IGI will continue to manufacture the Astorlite along with their own name brand waxes as well.

Why discontinue a whole brand, when you can have TWO, and reap the benefits of BOTH.

I think I could compare this to the recent Sears/Kmart merger, now know as Sears Holdings. Kmart bought out Sears I think way back in March, but they are keeping the Sears name, and when they transition to one store they will have brands from both stores.

I think this is what IGI is doing with the Astorlite brand waxes, like Sherry Everett said, they complement IGI’s line of waxes very well.

  9. Well I got it sraight from IGI if you want to believe it or not its up to you.

I will post the E-Mail message here:

    ________________________________________________________________

    Hello-

There is no intention of discontinuing these products. They are very popular blends in the marketplace and complement IGI's line of container candles very well.

    Kind regards,

    Astorlite J waxes

There is a rumor going around on some of the message boards as to Astrorlite plans to discontinue the popular J series waxes, including J50, J223, and J300.

I was wondering if you could possibly confirm or deny these rumors being posted on some candle making message boards.

    Thanks,

  10. told by the IGI representative that IGI was going to be discontinuing most of the Astorlite waxes over the coming year, including the J blends - J-50, J-223 and J-300

I think I'll go out on a limb here and say NOT TRUE. They have just introduced a new J blend the J225, just got a sample of it last week. And no I haven’t had a chance to test yet, its killing me but have been super busy at my other job.

If fact if you read the memo I copied and posted in the thread, it states that the J225 is the First in a series of wax blends from their new "Total Scents" product line.

    http://www.candletech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3209

So yeah I would doubt Astorlite would continue to release and entire new product line, and take the time and money that goes along with testing if they planned on discontinuing it.

  11. I could't get the sample link to work either. If you go to the contact page, and contact them via e-mail is how I got my sample. I dont want to post her e-mail address here, but it is easy to find on the contact us page. HINT HINT.

All they want to know is your potential quantity purchase, name and size of your candle company. :)
