I've been making candles for 5 years and have a business, which I run in my spare time as I also teach high school.

  1. I must confess...I'm a pillar candle "hugger." I like my candles to mold into pliable rounded tops as they burn! I love the feel of warmed wax bending in the palm of my hands! With this confession, what is the very best wax to buy, if you are a candle hugger like me???
  2. I've decided to make some votives for a craft faire. I've never sold them before. What is a reasonable price people will pay? Kim
  3. UPS no longer ships hundred weight to homes. I rented a mailbox at my local UPS store, and I can ship hundred weight there and pick it up. Actually, I like the idea. No more leaving boxes out in inclement weather!
  4. I teach school, and I know our secretaries would be a little peeved to have 4 50 pound boxes sitting in their space! But I definitely will check into the hub thing. I'll call UPS Monday. Thanks! And It's so true. We pay so much more in the West for our supplies. Thanks, Kim
  5. I already did that. I was told UPS no longer ships hundred weight to residences. For 4 cases, shipping is $112. Ouch! At least for my pocketbook! Thanks so much! Kim
  6. Whew! I think we westerners are paying thru the nose for shipping! I've used GB 435 and 415 for years now, but I will be switching to Calwax CB3 as I can pick it up and save costs. Shipping of wax and jars has risen tremendously, and I don't think my customers are willing to pay much more for their candles. It seems everyone is feeling the financial pinch. Can someone tell me how Calwax CB3 compares to the GB waxes? Thanks, Kim
  7. It seems that Bluegrass is always out of the scents I use when I really need them! Butterscotch Ripple is one of my best sellers, and it's been out-of-stock for a long time. Any suggestions on a similar scent from another supplier? I also will need to replace their eggnog and baby powder. Thanks, Kim
  8. Thanks so much, everyone! You're great, and yes the measurements are flexible! Kim
  9. My daughter is getting married in October, and she really would like to use vases as pictured here for centerpieces. The photo is from Pottery Barn, and I'm thinking we can get something similar a lot cheaper than their 29 and 39 dollars. She likes the alternate photo in their catalog which shows them each holding a pillar candle surrounded with small fruit. I can easily make the candles and fruit is simple to buy. Any ideas on the vases? One is 6.5" wide and 7" high; the other 6" wide and 9" high. Thanks, Kim
  10. Majestic Mountain Sage at http://www.the-sage.com/ has a good one, although it's comparatively expensive.
