  1. Thanks purple lilac, that's actually what im doing now, i have thousands of recipes on my computer but they are all over the place and i've doubled up on a heap so i've finally decided to sit down and organise them, I went down and bought folders and all for when i print them. Guess i should of done it right from the start instead of being so excited and caught up in it all....:undecided

Thanks for the reply if i don't find one amongst what i've got i'll jump on google.

  2. I have a massage oil that i bought from a company i use to work for that is absolutely divine, seeing as the company refused to pay me and owe me nearly $4,000 i wont go back to buy it from them ( i know that's nasty but...)

Any way it's an almond oil, jojoba oil which is fragranced mandarine/vanilla now i know this might sound strange but i suffer from extremely bad acne and suprisingly this massage oil works wonders on my face. I was told that it is no good to use on your face because it makes it more oily. My question is this... Is that true or can it affect people differently? It's obviously worked on me and I love it to pieces. Is there any way of replicating the recipe just based on the label which simply just says

"Sweet Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Fragrance"

I'm know nothing of massage oils but this is one i definately have to have or my face reverts back to my teens..

I've even thought of getting a friend to buy it from them for me but just wont on principals, Any ideas!!

  3. :bliss: :bliss: One day this will be me when i make my first batch and come out here and share it with you guys.

Again thanks for all of your comments and help.

Look forward ED1 to seeing them you're like me a little timid on getting in there and actually starting.

Oh and dixie i checked out your soaps. Fantastic work Girl

  4. Thanks for the responses. I do agree on the colours in the fonts for sure, But can't actually decide on a colour i do like, Considering everything i do in my life is black. It's extremely hard for me not to design a black label. My other website was designed for me and done in Pinks. I wanted pinks and had it designed because i knew if it wasn't black i would have absolutely no luck and that's the same trouble im having here. As for the font for lip smoochies. I love the font ( just had to use it somewhere) but i'm with you on that as well. Considering I put it in there and knew exactly what it said. When i loaded it up the next time even i had to look twice at it. The font on Aromelusions is the killer. I spent 3 days searching the net for that font. I want a nice swirly whirly girly font for this (everything i'm not...lol) and i finally found that one and liked it but sometimes. L's look like P's and F's look like t's etc. So may have to give up on that one even though i personally do like it.

    Font's i used were:

Aromelusions is written in "Zapfino Linotype two"

Lip Smoochies is written in "Words Of Love"

Ingredients on the lip balm label written in "BigMisterC

Oh and lip smoochies isn't what the will be called i just haven't come up with a name for them yet so, that's not a definate yet.

Thanks for the feed back it's fantastic, well i'm off to search the font sites again :)

  5. OK ya'll theres no telling what Ill end up with, it never got as thick as the photos, I never saw the oils breaking back up, but it sarted growing in pot so I stired it down and added fo ad color ad glopped into a log mold. I forgot to remove it from the heat dang it. I was very slippery and hard to get out with a wooden spoon, smells great though I used jamaican me crazy and tried to swirl some yellow in but it was such a small batch in my big crockpot thats didnt work too well. It does have a pretty pineapple color though:D I dont know how long Im suppose to leave it in a log mold so Im going to do some searches on that, it wasn scarey at all once I started, I mixed my lye outside ad used all the safety gear.

Gosh Dang now im just jealous...lol Way to go sounds as if you had fun too. Goodl luck look forward to seeing some pics when it's all done. CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FIRST BATCH!! :highfive: sorry for the caps but i had to yell for you to hear me...hehe

  6. It actually says i can post now so did my best. For some reason my talc labels have resized themselves and im too lazy to remeasure the containers at 4am so will upload those another time. I love the red rose design but just think it might be a little bit too busy. Mind you it took me 2 weeks to figure out how to even put a border in psp so quite proud of these even if they are amateurs work. Aromelusions will be my business name, and i don't have all ingredients etc. worked out on labels just yet and still need to add weight etc. Any critisim greatly appreciated, it's what makes us better ourselves. So there you go an open forum to splurt your thoughts and to let her rip'....hehehehe

Edited to say the last one "design.jpg" was just a quick 5 minute muck around to try something simple. I'm not the best at doing simple so was kinda hard and 5 minutes done my brain in. I quite like the design though but feel it's missing something and can't figure out for the life of me why i included a lightning bolt...Guess i just liked it.

  7. Is lavender a particularly hard FO to work with. I made bath bombs they turned out perfect first go round did them for a week or so but every time i try to do it with lavender they wont form properly and just crumble. Was going to buy lavender from another source to see if it was just that particular bottle i had might not be a good quality one.

  8. Try the Whisk or the Dish ... and I don't have their addresses right now. I'm sure there are tons of other boards out there though too.

I found the addres for the whisk not sure if i'll be accepted there. I need to fill out an application form and have people vouch for me to be accepted and i don't know any one yet but i've got it bookmarked and will read through the forums. Thanks again for the information. :)

  9. Try the Whisk or the Dish ... and I don't have their addresses right now. I'm sure there are tons of other boards out there though too.

Thanks Scented (i think..lol ) i'll check them out now mind you its nearly 3.30am and i've been researching soaps since 2.30am yestie morning so if i go to bed i mean thanks. If not then it's ur fault for aiding and abetting an addiction in the waiting. ;) thanks though.....lol

  10. Thanks - I should have paid more attention in grade school....

hehe you sound like me i was to interested in everything but paying attention in school.. Dang why didn't we listen to our mothers...lol

  11. Cant help you out on the maroon thing but i know red & Blue make purple, maybe before adding to your M&P mix it first and up the red a bit see if it works. I did this before adding to bath salts. But even when i got the colour i wanted it still turned out different a week later. Hopefully someone will be along who can help you more then i can sorry and good luck with it.

  12. There are several Australian soapers on another board where I'm a member. Maybe you'll have to hook up with them and ask them where they get their stash! :wink2:

LOL yeah right i'm soap challenged in all aspects, This is the only forum i know of....LUCKILY considering i've been spending every waking moment scouring it. And most of the time when i'm suppose to be asleep i've been here too. OMG imagine if i found another one..hehe:grin2:

  13. I'd find out what that other 2% is! LOL Lye is sometimes called sodium hydroxide or caustic soda.

Don't make me come down to OZ and teach you how to make lye water from hardwood ashes in a rain barrel! :laugh2:

Thanks AJ, one step ahead of you there i emailed them to find out so i'm waiting back on a response from them. Hopefully it wont be too long i'm having withdrawals from not being able to make soaps and considering i've never made a soap that's sssssooooooooooooooo bad. I've been in a grump all day:D . Going to check out the health shop tomorrow see what that turns up, never know what you'll find in there so here's hoping.

  14. ED1 I'm with you on this one give me a one on one demonstration and it's with me for life but spend a month reading forums and it's in one side out the other. But i agree with dixiegal on this too we do have a lot to learn or at least i do but to be 100% honest there is no where else i'd rather learn then here at candletech.com everyone here has been fantastic with their advice and generosity in sharing recipes, ideas, sucesses and failures. Hopefully soon i'll be able to add my failures and one day add a success.

  15. I made bath salts with my kids early last week, Tonight my son went to put some of his in the bath and couldn't find them. He'd made purple bath salts and scented them lavender. But they had actually turned Turquoise. I had made some the week before with the same result but thought it was because i didn't actually mix the red with the blue properly so we did it this time but still they faded and went a very vibrant blue. I'd love to know what we did wrong so that we can correct it to make purple salts. But i also want to know what we did wrong so that i can find another fragrance to match the magnificent turqoise colour it went i'd love to use that colour when i get going. Any help would be great, ( and here we were thinking we were clever:highfive: )

  16. Im also new to this, sopacal has 2 calculators, one for a small batch one for large, make sure you use the one for small batches its got a #9 in it, when you go to the site if you look to the top left I think, it'll tell you which if for which. I went to the large batch one first and had the same results you did, but the other one gave me all the info I needed and didnt fry my brain at all :D HTH

Thanx dixiegal I was working with the #18 when I went back to figure it out I tried the #9 and still got the same results. I swear some days i should be blonder, I changed the soapcalc to grams but didn't change the "total oil weight" i actually left that at 1 gram, and i got this recipe saying .00002 grams of this and .00007 grams of that etc. I couldn't figure out how the heck it would make a bar of soap then figured out i had to put in what i wanted my soap to weigh. I figured out soapcalc, but i'm still none the wiser as to what to do with the information now...lol i'll get there though and thank you very much for your help.

edited: to make it, make sense..

  17. This is what I use (not from that supplier), the soluble paper can be tricky to work with.

I would be afraid that the laminated edges/sides would be painful it you got poked with it while using it.

Like I said i've never actually made any soap yet. I ordered some today but they're shut for stocktaking. :( But i've gained a wealth of information on this site already and that soluble paper was one that stuck in my brain. I was thinking of using it with my business name in to give out samples instead of business cards. (when i finally do make them and test them etc.) That's probably the only reason it stood out for me.

  18. I actually have "Mechanix" brand Caustic Soda which says on the label "Active Constituent: Sodium Hydroxide" it didn't say anything about being 100% so i went to their website www.pascoes.com.au and found some information on it that said " Concentration in this product:>98%"

So i'm guessing this would be no good? Sorry to be a hassle. But will check out others when i go shopping.

  19. lol funny you should say that I was actually thinking of going down there and checking out drain-o but was thinking it probably wouldn't do. Thanks a bunch for your help. Like I said I'm desperate to try soaps I'm even thinking of actually buying soap and melting it down just so I can then remake it..lol just don't know enough about it to do it yet. Thanks again.

    edited to fix spelling.

  20. I was reading another thread on here somewhere (couldn't find it again when i looked to link to it sorry) that rippedsheets.com has paper that is soluble. Pretty much the same concept. You print on the paper and put it into your soap and the picture is visible but when you use the soap and wash down to the picture it dissolves. Never having actually ever made a bar of soap i'm wondering if this paper would work the same way with a photograph? Print the photo and embed it. Only difference being that the laminated photo is kept after soap is used as opposed to the soluble paper photo dissolving. Not sure but doing the bit of reading everything before i try anything. Just thought this may work too.

  21. Having never made soap before and seeing some beautiful soaps today on here i decided to order a basic M&P kit from my supplier only to find they are closed for stock taking. So i hunted through the forums again and found a simple beginners soap recipe posted by Crafty1 AJ in the B&B recipes. My question is this. I'm desperate to make soap and understand that i can't make soap without lye. Is there however a sub for lye that i can use. I'm in australia and we don't have walmart or anything like that. The best i have is a safeway supermarket. Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm an addict already just reading the forums and can't find another cheap supplier for the sake of a couple of weeks everyone else is 3 or 4 times dearer then the one i have.
