  1. Not sure if it helps and i'm unsure of a price comparison on them but i've contacted www.rippedsheets.com and will be getting my labels from there because they will ship to Australia for me. They also have the soluble paper so you can imbed messages into your soaps. They have tonnes of really good stuff there but like i said i don't know how they compare with price against the other supplier.

    HTH

    Shaz!

  2. I'd let it sit for a bit longer since it will just get better with time. I can usually never wait long before I am taking a small sliver of soap into the shower with me. I've never been patient with anything.

Thanks hun i will definately leave it for longer. 8 weeks curing should be enough i think, but could be wrong. I've been extremely good with being patient i haven't tried one bit of soap in the shower yet. Although i do have some scraps of it in a container by the kitchen sink that i use to wash my hands in...Can't wait to try that in the shower when it cures.

  3. GM = goats milk.

I only used my plastic tray mold twice. After the first batch, it warped so it was hard to get that batch out. I figured it probably would have come out easier if I had given it more time. My next batch was a PITA getting out too. I've never used it since.

    Welcome to the addiction. :D

cool thanks Meridith, I've been trying to get powdered goats milk for some other recipes and cant get powdered but i can get liquid goats milk. I'm hoping this comes out it is in my new mould that i quite like..

And as for the addiction, it is pretty addicting. I thought i'd make some prove i could do it and that would be it but unfortuately i don't think it's going to be that black and white

  4. I think they look great.Who knows too, it could be one of the best soaps you ever make. My first soap looked like someone ate split soup and threw up! LOL I made it in a plastic tray mold I got with a kit from Supplies to Die For. I let my batch get too hot, and it warped my mold. It was a great soap too just not appealing to look it.

And if you need to rebatch, it is not hard at all. I rebatch in an old crock pot. I cut or grind the soap up and put it in the cp. It takes a while this way, but I don't mind. Sometimes, I add gm or some exta oils to it.

LOL i have no idea what gm is but i'll do a search on it. As for it being the best soap i ever make....(i certainly hope not...hehe) but when i moved it naturally i got some of it on my hands well when i washed my hands they did feel lovely and silky afterwards. So who knows you might just be right on that one :D . I do have some in a plastic mould at the moment and it wont come out of it but i'm going to just leave it in there and hope it shrinks and pops out.

  5. I've noticed there's been a few people after recipes for dog soaps. So as i was looking for information on the net and I came across this link to dog soaps I thought i'd post for you. I have no idea if they are any good or not but thought i'd post the link and you can see what you think of it from there. I'm still flat out making human soap so it's of no interest to me personally yet but I hope it might help someone else.

  6. I'm new too, but I'd say if there is no zap it should be ok. I'd leave it out to cure for a while. Good job. :D

Thanks hawaiiansun, I had an inkling it would "probably" be ok but wasn't 100% sure about it. It doesn't look the healthiest but i tried a new recipe. I've been making AJ's basic beginners soap like mad and had that down pact could just about make it with my eyes shut and wanted to try something else. But while making the new recipe i forgot i was trying a new recipe and put in 4.5oz lye instead of the 8.5oz it called for so i added the extra lye to my extra water allowance. So just wanted to make sure it would be ok. Thanks heaps hawaiiansun

  7. I made a batch of soap that was Lye Heavy. When I stuck to my tongue to it, it zapped. Was going to throw it out when people said give it a few days first if that's no good then rebatch it. Well that was last night. I moved it from my bench today and my son dared me to put my tongue to it again. Well not being one to back away from a dare i did it and there was NO zap at all. Tasted pretty yuck but it didn't bite me either.

Even though it was Lye Heavy does this mean it is now ok? If so should i wait longer for it to cure. I've put all my CP into brown paper bags and marked the date they can be used. I've been allowing a 6 week cure period on them.

Any help or advice would be fantastic.

  8. Give the soap a few more days and then do the tongue test again to see if it zaps you. Sometimes you will get zapped when you first unmold it because it needs more time. And it you give it more time, it just might not zap you. If it doesn't, I think the soap will look pretty good once cut and cleaned up. I love the color.

BTW - I had to laugh when I read your first experience cutting your first batch. I did the same thing. It didn't take me long after that to learn to line my mold and invest in a soap cutter instead of using a butter knife. LOL

    Thanks Meridith & prairieannie

i am in the middle of going through the forums i put in a search for "Lye Heavy" and got some posts on that and was just reading where someone said to give it 3 days then test again if it still zaps then rebatch it. The post also said that there were white spots in the soap which mine does have so i'll see how it goes in 3 days or so and if need be i might have to learn rebatching pretty quick....lol

My mother in law said to me oh all the good oil wasted i couldn't stand it doesn't it upset you. I simply replied nope i learnt to be more careful when checking my recipes and i learnt to line a mould aswell as trying a new recipe. Plus i know now not to add lye to it later. She just looked at me dumbfounded. But while i'm disappointed i might not be able to try out this recipe i'm definately not disappointed it mucked up. I've actually learnt heaps from it.

When i was making it i put in red to get the pink but i didn't like the pink i had so i added a few drops of black to it. They thought i was weird but i liked it too. As for cutting it. I cut some of this one before and have found if i use the back of a stainless steel knife i actually get a nice smooth cut. Mind you I cant cut them the same size but i actually cut them straight and not hacked so that was good.

Edited because image was too big.

  9. OK. I posted last night about only adding half the lye, decided that if i was gonna have to throw the whole batch away anyway i might aswell add the extra lye anyway. I'd chosen the lower number on my water allowance and still had up to 6oz of water I could add so thought i'd add it with my Lye. Well it didn't exactly turn out too good. The bar itself is "fairly" solid and was thinking ok don't look the healthiest but thought i'd try my tongue to it...

OH MY GOODNESS no one told me what the lye zap was like....yucko So even though it doesn't look the healthiest and it's lye heavy (which i'm about to do a search on), Plus it has ash aswell, i'm quite proud of this soap. Because i've been trying to figure out how to line a mould since I hacked my first soap to bits and BINGO managed to do it this time it slid right out of the container i was using (a few creases in it but ack who's vein anyway...lol) PLUS because I can't get freezer paper thought i'd try freezer film. And BINGO again that works too. So even though i might of mucked up a #4 batch of soap i've learned quite alot so i'm still the proud maker of this fugly looking, tongue zapping soap :D

  10. WOW that is super delicious it reminded me of something that i seen in a store in the city. I looked on their website and i can't find it so sorry can't post a link to it but..... It was packaged in a round plastic ball with a screw top and it was actually a moisturiser. Difference was it was say a light pink moisturising cream mixed with a hot pink moisturising gel which had aloe vera in it. I did ask about it and that's what i got told. From what it looked like they had put the gel in first and then used a pump of some sort to pump the cream in because that was sort of suspended in the gel. They had all sorts of colours and it looked absolutely fantastic and very eye catching. Sorry i rambled on but i'm no where near making anything like that yet and when i seen your whipped butter it reminded me of it and i thought it may be able to give you some ideas.

  11. Here's a couple to get you started, I'll post more as I find them for you. Not sure if it's what your after but it might be a start and you may be able to alter wording etc to suit yourself.

This is only a tiny message,

but it's written just for you

for finding time in your busy life

to give us a moment or two.

We hope that you can feel, as we,

    light-hearted and gay,

We thank you for making it special,

    And sharing our magic day.

Thank you for coming and sharing our day.

Hope comes from loving, and loving from friends.

After you left, we were left with the stars,

Near stunned by the grace with which such a day ends.

Know that your presence helped fashion our way.

You are the fields on which marriage depends,

Opening vistas no heart can convey,

Unloosing sweet music that now will be ours.

  12. Thanks Eugenia as i said in my PM to you i added the lye whisked it around and moulded it. I don't have a stainless steel pot, i bought what was suppose to be a wizz bang heat resistant glass one, i told the lady what i wanted it for etc. she said this one was brilliant, and it is super duper deep. BUT when i made my soap tonight the rotten thing cracked in 3 places. So had to quickly sort out my lye problem and get it moulded before it cracked right through or splintered glass into my soap. I like the sound of HP soap though so working up the courage now to try that one :D

  13. It has actually gone into a thick Gel like jelly in the bowl, i've just whisked it up by hand and it looks like it would of at a thick trace, Does anyone know if it will work to just pour it into the moulds now and put it to bed? Was going to pour half then add lye but then my lye count would be out so can't do that.

  14. I've just made a CP using:

    8 oz coconut oil

    12 oz Olive Oil

    20 oz Rice Bran Oil

    24 oz Lard

Put it thru lye calc at thesage.com and it told me 8.5oz of lye with the highest range of water at 24oz. I used the lower range of 18 oz of water but wondering why the heck it's soupy, my recipe book got changed over to the simple beginners recipe and i didn't check i was still using the same recipe and only added 4.5oz of Lye to 18 oz of water.

PLEASE HELP ME WHAT CAN I DO...Except cry.

Just wondering can i mix the other 4oz of lye to 6oz of water to take it to the upper scale of 24 oz that the lye calc suggested.

  15. Thanks hun i got some garbage bags and they were a nightmare for me personally too much static, i still can't find freezer paper but i found freezer liner so i'm going to try that but it's got a bit of static in it too. Keeps getting stuck to my arm...lol I'm looking at eugenia's tutorial now but it's confusing the heck out of me at the moment. Thanks for the reply hun.

  16. I've been making AJ's basic beginners soap and wanted to try something new. I've got a soap recipe that calls for

    Coconut oil 8 oz

    Olive Oil 12 oz

    Rice Bran oil 20 oz

    Lard 24 oz

Which makes a #4 batch. The only problem is I only have my hard plastic Ice Cube holder that i used before but i don't know what to line it with. I don't have any freezer paper to line it and i know from experience that it's not usable without a lining of some sort in it. The last lot i hacked the soap into chunks to get it out of there.

Can I use Glad Wrap to line the mould? Otherwise all i have is wax paper and aluminium foil which i already know the aluminium foil is a no no.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Shaz!

  17. Sounds great thanks for posting this forum, I've sent the link to DH who owns a computer business and knows pretty much everything about everything, however you can never know to much. I think he'd certainly have a lot to gain from that website and alot to give. I think he's too proud to go there to look for answers so i'm playing the "imagine what you could teach them" angle. Then he'll go there for sure :D

  18. I second Bunny, I'm of a very slender build and have 4 children & 5 pregnancies, when i was pregnant with my first I was 17 I didn't even know what stretch marks were, when i finally got the courage to show my MIL, was the time that i was in terrible distress and sooking like a baby. I didn't exactly have stretch marks where my skin was white and i had purple lines, it was more like my skin was purple and i had an occassional white line. From breast to thigh i was covered purple. I got an extra 2 with my second child, but the other 3 not a one, The last one i itched terrible but when i rubbed stuff on my belly i itched and burned for days i couldn't use a thing :( . Wish I could of though some of these recipes sound brilliant.

  19. Well they told me they ship to australia, I added one fragrance to just check out what the shipping would be. That one bottle was going to cost me $81.80 so not even going to go any further. Plus by the time i converted that to australian dollars it would be nearly $130. Some how i just don't think that the 99c sale is any good for me:undecided
