  1. Thanks for the reply. I know they can be expensive so it is helpful getting other people's input before I go out and purchase it.
  2. I am switching over to using ecosoya wax and I was wondering what was the most preferred kind of wick? The candles that I make are pillar candles, generally between 2.5 to 4 inches wide. I have never used hemp wicks before but I'm interested in giving them a try and I was hoping to get some advice, comments and suggestions using them with soy wax. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.
  3. I'm switching to Ecosoya wax and I'm curious what people have used for wicks with this wax. I'm leaning towards using hemp wicking. The candles that I make are pillars, typically 2 1/2 up to 4 inches wide. Does anyone have any advice? What's your experience with hemp wicks? Any advice, comments, suggestions, etc would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
  4. I just saw some pictures of these candles and I think that they're amazing. Has anyone tried them before, and would you have any advice? I'm anxious to try making one!
  5. That was probably it! It makes sense - I was very near the bottom of the pot and I'm sure that was it. Well now I know how to get that effect if I ever want to
  6. As far as I know I didn't touch or bump it. It was cooling on another table that I wasn't near. It's kind of a neat effect, but I am curious as to why it happened.
  7. I was doing a repour last night on a candle with paraffin wax. After it had cooled, the top was very wrinkled (the best way to describe it), like a raisin. I've always had it cool with a smooth surface so I'm wondering why it had a wrinkled texture. I used this same wax to make other candles with and haven't had this happen before. The wax had vybar in it as well as some fragrance. If anyone has any ideas why this happend, I'd love to know! Thanks.
  8. Does anyone know any candle suppliers in Minnesota - preferably the Minneapolis/St. Paul vicinity? I'm very familiar with Peak candles - but I would like to go somewhere and see some of the products in person.
  9. Thanks everyone for your advice! I went out today to find a presto pot - I didn't have the patience to wait for one to come in the mail and I was excited to begin right away. I had some difficulty finding a Presto Pot, Walmart didn't have them anymore, so I tried Target, Kmart and Shopko. In the end I ended up purchasing a Hamilton Beach 6.5 quart roaster oven that has a thermostat on it. It was only $20, so I figured I'd give it a shot - and if it didn't work I could use it to cook with instead. I plugged it in right away and it has been working great! I have just been scooping out the wax as I have needed it, mixing the color and scent in a separate pot and then pouring it into the molds. After seeing how easy and fast it is - I could never imagine going back to a double boiler! Thanks again!
  10. I have just recently begun making candles and I am far from an expert. I am discovering how much I dislike melting wax using a double boiler - it's very time consuming, messy, and takes a long time. I am interested in buying a wax melter and was wondering what everyone here would recommend. I've seen the Presto Pot modifications on eBay and I was wondering if that is something that I should go with, or if there is something else. I would to purchase something that would work well with soy wax. Any advice and recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  11. Thank you for your responses, I'm very anxious to try this wax!
  12. I have not used soy wax before but I'm thinking of switching to completely soy. The one that I constantly am hearing about is Ecosoya. Can anyone give me their experience with it, their advice regarding it and if you would recommend it. I am making primarily pillar candles, so I'm looking for something with a good outward appearance, throws a scent well and does a nice job layering. Thanks!
  13. I am interested in hearing anyone's experience with this kind of wax. I have not used it myself but I would like to shift into completely natural waxes. If you have any advice or comments about it, I would greatly appreciate hearing them!
  14. I am trying to find somewhere with a large variety of different fragrances for candles that are completely natural. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations? Thanks.
