Hello everyone. Im pretty new to this whole gel and candle making idea overall. I was thinking of an idea for a gift for my girlfriend. I was going to create a candle using the gel wax I have seen in these gel candles in the stores. But instead of making a candle I was thinking of putting a rose in a big jar that will fit the length/ have some pedals of another coloured rose floating around the rose and possibly write little love messages on them you know? Anyways Aside from the writting(not sure if it will stand up against the heat of the wax or will it?) But I was wondering if I use a fresh rose of even a really good looking Fake one, Is this a good idea? I mean can I do it? I dont really see the problem as to how or why I wouldnt be able to. I mean I know that if I try the rose will possibly fall to the side of the glass and cool in that position unless I prop it str8 in the air so the it remains in the middle of the Vase/Glass. That wont be a problem for me to figure out, I just want to know if I use a real rose will it cool properly and look good? Also for the "floating" rose pedals how could I do that? I mean if I put the pedals in after the Vase is full of hot wax using some Tonges would that work? or would they just sink to the bottom? I mean I know there are different Densities. Would a Higher Density help me make this whole Idea of a Floating Rose and Rose Pedals in some sort of Coloured or Clear Gel work? If so then great. I plan to close off the top and not really use it as a candle. Also are there any good tutorials of melting and pouring Wax in this way? Assuming Im using a standard kitchen? Or is it more so common sense and EXTRA safety to be taken due to the temperature? Finally, I live in toronto Ontario Canada, if all of the answers I get here are positive and I finally deside to and can get this project done. How or where can I find the materials ? I mean Roses, the Vase and whatever else I can find. But I cant seem to find the gel. I have gone to Halmark and Carlton Cards etc. and I cant seem to find a place that has the material I need. Anyone in the area or know of a place I can go and get it from? If not know any good online stores that I can buy the gel/materials I need off of? One other thing is that I read that you should NOT stir the gel as it melts b/c that will leave Air Bubbles...Is that true? I mean wont it bubble up/boil and splatter if that happens? I mean I would like to use Clear or a pinkish coloured gel and have it as clear as I can get it with as little an amount of Air Bubbles as I can get.
