  1. I like the WSP suspension shower gel, as it is such a versatile product. you can use it straight as a plain shower gel; add jojoba beads or mica to make it look interesting or sparkle and they stay suspended; add clay and you have a shave gel; add scrubbies like ground apricot or walnut shell for a light scrub, etc... Great possibilities with that one. Who ever you do decide to order from, make sure that you order a bottle of liquid crothix too. Many FO can really thin out shower gel and this stuff works fab to thicken them up again!

BTW, what about buying a lotion base with out cocoa butter if your mom is allergic to it? then you could make a matching set. I have gotten some great bases at essential wholesale, the candle makers store, tc labs (now sold at boutique laboratories), new directions aromatics, etc... HTH

  2. I would be very careful about making your own mascara. Something that close to your eye needs to be formulated and preserved properly or you could end up with big problems. I would also have it challenge tested first. There are some brands of more "natural" mascaras and this is one product where it might be better to just buy it instead of trying to make your own so you don't end up with an eye infection or worse. just my 2 cents

  3. Tahiti - tiare

    France- fresh baked (French) bread

    Colombia- coffee

India- sandalwood or nag champa or amber

    Australia- tea tree

New Zealand- something fresh and outdoorsy.

    New York- mac apple

    Alaska- snow fresh

    Amazon- rain forest

London- rain (not a floral spring type though) or earl grey tea

    Adirondacks- campfire

    Belgium- chocolate

    Germany- beer

    Provence- lavender

    Long Island- iced tea

    China- green tea

    Madagascar- spice

    Bulgaria- rose

    Japan- cherry blossom

    West Indies- bay rum

    Greece- olive blossom

    USA- apple pie

    Bethlehem- frank & myrrh

  4. If you want it more cleansing what about using a foaming bath butter base? Or if you used a different exfoliant like jojoba beads, microderm crystals, polyethylene beads, ground apricot kernel, etc.. That would not dissolve then you could up the liquid soap in your recipe. Don't forget to add a preservative if there is any chance that water could get in the jar or bottle. I have also heard of people adding M&P soap to there scrubs with success so maybe you could try that?

  5. If the whole point of making these products for your dog is so that they are "natural" then I would stay away from fragrance oils ;) . A dog's sense of smell is much better than ours so remember to use a light hand if you do add scent to anything or it could bother him/her. Many of the healing balm type recipes for people could probably be used on a dog as long as all the ingredients were safe. If you want to buy something already made I have seen some good dog soap listed on etsy.com but even there don't forget to check the ingredients. Just because someone is selling it does not always mean they know what there doing unfortunately.

  6. Vitamin E is an antioxidant, not a preservative. It will keep your oils from going rancid (oxidizing) but will do nothing to prevent the growth of bacteria and molds in a lotion. And if your talking about colloidal silver, I would look into the disease you can get from it before you start using it in any products. It can make your skin turn gray permanently if you use too much- there is a senator that this happened to actually. Maybe it could be used, I don't really know- I would not take a chance though.

I believe that they may have come up with some essential oil only preservative systems but I can't remember the names right now. I do remember that they were hard to find, expensive and had very potent smells though. I personally have no problem with unnatural preservatives because I would rather feel confident that I was not going to possibly get an infection or worse from some bad lotion. But if you do go without a preservative I would store it in the fridge and use it up with in a few days. just my 2 cents though.

If you do a search for lotion or preservatives in the bath and body subforum you will probably find loads of information.

  7. High potency steroid cream LOL! That seams to be about the only thing that helps mine no matter what other lotions and potions I try- emu, neem, pine tar etc... I have never heard the castor oil one before though, I will have to look into that! Make sure you are taking some good internal oil supplement though, those should help with keeping the skin healthy- EPO, chia oil, borage oil, flax, fish, seabuckthorn, etc... Sorry I'm not much help.

  8. Are you guys contacting the State's Attorney General's office in her state and filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau??? Also file a complaint with her IP host, or whatever it's called (not so comuter literate!) and Paypal if she takes it and they may just shut her ass down. At least you will cause some havoc for her and her site, no matter how long ago you ordered, and you may get your money back!! It does work......that's what I did with Almost Heaven and got all my money back and she was thrown off Paypal. :highfive:

I don't mean to change the subject but I have an outstanding order with Almost Heaven from back when that colorant buy was. I think it was like 1.5 years ago or something crazy like that. I have minimal communication saved as emails from her but stupidly did not save the original invoice email I got. It was one of my first few orders and I didn't realize that I was being had to much to late. Do you think that there is still anything that I can still do to get my money back? I'm out almost $150  to Lea.

  9. Fusion Magic & Fantasy Creme Maker & every other instant product like this is garbage plain & simple. Don't waste your money. You cannot compare the slime from a so-called instant miracleous product to a formula made from scratch unless you don't know any better.

Thats a strong statement to make after several people just posted that they liked it. Couldn't you have just said you personally did not like it, instead of (indirectly) insulting others opinions? Just because what ever you happened to formulate with it felt slimy in your opinion, does not mean what others create will be.

It may feel differently than a lotion made from scratch, but not in an unpleasant way IMHO.

  10. If you only need a little to test you can get a small bottle locally, but it will be much more expensive that way. Like Hellen said, I would try your usual web suppliers and get it there because its only a few dollars a pound. You might also want to look into a product called Hydrovance (you can get it from WSP). Its a good alternative to glycerin with out the sticky feeling that glycerin can have. HTH :smiley2:

  11. I have both the one from BCN and WSP's but I actually like the one from The Candlemakers Store better. It can hold a higher fragrance load (up to 9%) than the other 2 and stays clear. Plus you can use it as linen spray too! But make sure you test it because it did not work for at least 1 fragrance I tried with it, no matter what % I used. Even 3% wouldn't mix in for some reason!

  12. I bought a snow ball maker from Kmart that I plan on trying out. I usually just use the 2 part plastic ornament things and stuff a bit extra in the middle like fghtoffancy said. Some times that works, sometimes it doesn't, so I'm hoping that the snowball maker will be better. I'm not sure if you only want round balls, but the "tap a mold" from RJ's is great for making bath tablets if you don't mind the shape!

  13. Its the same thing as Sepigel 305 from Southern Soapers. Thats its actual name. She has a nice formulary sheet posted there on the product page. The personal formulator sells it too but its like 2x as expensive there for some reason. I have used it a few times am getting used to it. The first rime I tried it (for the body butter swap) It almost didn't work, but I think that was partially my fault. I like how its a liquid. I added some to a batch of foot gel (aloe gel base) that I made this weekend and just a little thickened it right up!
