  1. Crafty, is the uv inhibitor the only additive you use? ONE DAY I'd like to get to the point of selling some also, so I want to do things the right way, but I thought that candles would only fade if they were in bright light like sunshine or flourescent lights. Is that not true?
  2. I'm learning day by day, and I've been experimenting with different colors, scents, molds, etc. So far I haven't used any additives, but I'm thinking I want to try a few to see what the results would be. I've read what each of them do (vybar, stearic acid, uv inhibitor, universal additive, etc.), but can't decide which to try. What do some of y'all use? Thanks!
  3. sharyl, those are great suggestions...thanks! The thought of overdipping a white candle into blue wax crossed my mind...but I didn't think I'd be able to find a Palmetto tree cookie cutter. But I'm certainly going to look on the net for one. Edit for this post...unbelievable...the VERY first website I went to looking for cookie cutters had the PerFECT palmetto tree. I'm so excited.
  4. I'm trying to post a pic of this candle, but apparently I'm not allowed to post pics. It says at the bottom "you may not post attachments". Is that how everyone posts pics? And if so, how do I request the ability to post attachments? Thanks!
  5. I'll try to take a pic with my digital camera today and post a pic of the candle. (warning...I'm no professional.....YET) And thanks so much for the suggestions. Y'all are always so helpful!
  6. Hey...I tried to make a blue pillar candle with a white painted palmetto tree (the state tree of South Carolina), but it came out looking like a kid painted the tree on it. I cut a stencil out of a transparency for the tree, and used candle paint that I found in a craft store. There's no way I could make these consistently enough for sale. There HAS to be a way to make a good, consistent, white palmetto tree on a candle. I've thought about embedding a pic of the tree in the candle, but I sure would like it painted on the outside. Anyone have experience with painting on candles? Thanks for any information.
  7. Wow, y'all sure are friendly and helpful. Now if I can only get y'all to do my taxes. I'm going to check out a color wheel soon.
  8. Thanks so much for the suggestions. So it really IS just trial and error? I expected to have to test a few things, but for some colors I wouldn't know where to begin. Do any of you use a color wheel? I've never even seen one, so don't know how it works. But if it's helpful, I'll definitely learn.
  9. Hey everyone. I enjoyed reading through pages and pages of the posts here. I learned a lot from the discussions. But I didn't see many discussions on color. I'm new to this, and I have no idea how to make the different colors. For example, I want to make a garnet color, but I don't know what colors combine to make garnet. Is there an easy way to tell what you need to put together to get certain colors? I thought I'd give it a shot so I used red and brown, but it came out kinda orangish. I searched on the net for information, but didn't find much. So, how do y'all know which colors combine to make other colors? Thanks so much!
