The only flat head nails I had were too long so I just cut them down. Glad the idea helps someone.

I embed tea light holders in my palm everlasting pillars. I like simple and cheap. I use Play Dough to fill the tea light holder, put a nail I have cut off in the wick hole in the mold, cover with plumbers putty and guerrilla tape. The nail holds the play dough filled tea light holder in place. Works like a charm and the play dough can be reused. Don't know if the same process would work for a votive holder.

Great looking basketball candle and congrats to your niece's team. It really looks like a basketball. Did you paint on the lines?

You definitely earned your badge with these. They turned out great. Be sure you folks are around when you test burn them.
-
Do post some close ups. I love looking at everyones set up. I really like your U shape. Always seems to make the shopping experience more cozy.
-
They all look great. I think the brown/tan ones are my favorite.

You did! :yay:
Sherry, you 'cane looks great. Love that picture. Can't see any mistakes.

Wow! That chunk pillar is awesome. The are all great but I really love that one.
-
Great looking pillars.

I'm excited too. :yay:
You are just holding the ice cube for a few seconds before moving it. As soon as the wax starts to set up move the ice up or over. Keep doing that that until the wax has set up all over the picture.
Like I said I leave mine in the water bath 10 minutes. Then they set on the counter for 10 minutes or until the wax wall is 1/4 to 3/8" thick.
I'll be looking for pictures tomorrow.

You have some beautiful swirls

I use 5055 from Candlewic. You'll also need some Micro 180. Check you the tutorial I did last Sat. in Classroom.
-
I use Krylon acrylic crystal clear satin spray and just spray the outside. I'm looking for a protective coating so the wax over the picture isn't easily scratched or marred.
-
Thanks Erin and Sherry. Glad the class helped you. Now be sure an post a picture when you make your next picture 'cane.
Sherry, don't know what to tell you about a mold. It would probably cost more than $20 to buy one from a US supplier and have it shipped to Canada. If you are close to the border maybe you could have it delivered to a location just on the US side and drive over to pick it up.

Good way to play with leftover wax. They are cute.

You're welcome Sherry. Sorry the day has been such a bummer for you. You could try pouring the wax in something to set up. I use those ziplock 2 qt tubs. Hopefully the wax will set up and the water will be at the bottom of the container.

Great looking soap. E has infected a lot of us with the soaping bug with that class of hers.
-
Glad this was helpful. Be sure an post a picture when you try your next picture 'cane

Eat the ice cream 1st LOL Sorry the mold leaked on you.
Sherry I have to go out and feed my rescue kittens. I'll be back in about an hour. Are you OK for now?
-
Sherry, yes I use a powdered mold release and mix it in when I am melting the wax.
-
Sorry for the problems with the start time. I thought it would be better to post everything now and let you read thru the posts. I'll try to answer any of your questions when you have a chance to try making a picture 'cane. Just post your questions here.

You Are Done!! Yea!
I put a cork pad under my votive glass.
Post your pictures tomorrow when you have unmolded your picture ‘cane.
Hope you enjoyed the class and I have helped you a little bit. Picture ‘canes are really all about technique. You just need to make a few to find the technique that works for you.
I’ll be here for a while to answer questions. And I’ll check in tomorrow morning to see if you have any questions.
For those of you that have made ‘canes most of this is pretty boring. We have been getting so many questions on the General forum about how to make ‘canes I thought starting with the basics might be helpful.
Remember, this is just my way of making picture ‘canes. You need to find the method that works best for you. Hopefully these basics will help you get there.

Finishing an electric cane.
· Remove the plug and clean up the hole with your X-Acto knife.
· Heat the shaft of your screwdriver. I use the gas burner on my stove. Your heat gun would also work if you have an electric stove.
· Lay the shaft of your screwdriver on the bottom of your cane going from the hole to the back mold seam. The shaft is HOT. To not touch!
· Use a paper towel to wipe off the melted wax.
· Repeat as needed until the groove is deep enough for your electric cord. If using a gas burner, be sure to wipe your screwdriver shaft before re-heating.
· Insert your Light Clip
· I staple the cord in place. Be careful not to staple the cord.
