  1. I cure for minimum 2 weeks! I’m not sure either because I can’t get my hands on CD so have no idea the equivalence. The melt pools and everything doesn’t act like the wick is too big and I’m trying to make these to sell so I feel like changing wicks per scent is not realistic when it comes time to be pouring in higher quantities. May have to just give up on the ones that aren’t working for me
  2. GW464 and freedom soy containers are 2 3/8” in diameter - I’ve tried premier cotton medium, HTP93, HTP105 and everywhere from 6% to 10.5% fragrance load
  3. I just started using freedom! Ok thanks I will lower the % and see how that works. I’ve been testing with premier cotton and HTP wicks because I can’t find CD anywhere in Canada and I really only have a medium or large option for the wicks when working with premier and the size down works better for my 2” containers.
  4. The one I’m experiencing most mushrooming with is a Roasted Espresso. I use soy wax and am putting in an 8.5% fragrance load. Do you think it’s to do with the amount of fragrance?
  5. Soy wax in containers. I cannot get this Palo Santo scent to throw at all and it’s a fairy strong woodsy scent
  6. Has anyone experienced a specific scent that no matter WHAT to you , you just cannot get a scent throw from?? My supplier has said this scent is tried tested and true and she has heard people get a great throw from it and I’ve made at least 20 of this same scent in different ways and cannot get a throw. time to give up on it maybe
  7. Is there anything I can change with my fragrance oil or method that will help prevent this?? I am certain my wick is NOT too large because the melt pool does not show that, and yet my wick will mushroom so much after 3 hours lit that the flame gets tiny. (my container is 3” in diameter so should be able to stay lit longer). This is happening with only 1 specific scent so far and I really would love to work. Any info would be greatly appreciated !!
  8. @TallTayl How is your testing with Freedom coming along? Are you finding a decent scent throw with it and what temps have you been heating/adding FO at? I am just lighting mine after waiting a few weeks and am finding some fragrances not as strong as i would like but some being ok.
  9. That video is awesome i wish i had come across it much sooner! I was swapping out wicks into unscented wax to see which one performed best and then learned the hard way that 1) the flame acts different as it gets lower into the container and 2) the whole thing performs different when you add in fragrance anyways! I'm interested to hear your findings of wicks for freedom soy. I will do my best to patiently wait the 2 weeks to cure now that all scents have been made with multiple wicks
  10. I am hoping someone with much more candle making experience than me can help shed some light because I truly feel at a loss after months of testing with so many uncertainties and no firm answers. I have just recently gotten Freedom Wax because i was liking the looks of my GB464 but had read numerous reviews that it is just extremely inconsistent so I figured Freedom is the closest thing with consistent reviews. Their instructions are to heat wax to 160 - i had previously been heating my GB464 to 180, so thought i would switch the temp to try. I poured one of each scent i am working with and on test lighting them today, unfortunately learned that the wick was too small. I decided to pour numerous candles with all the wicks i have which obviously created a much bigger batch. Due to the increase in wax, it was not fully melted at 160 and I had to heat it to 180 to get it all melted. Now i am feeling that the ones I poured at 160 are going to be irrelevant since I plan to only pour in larger batches. The supplier i get my wax and oils from had said temperature doesn't matter too much and she usually just gives it an additional minute after it's fully melted. How true is this?? Any information will be a huge help i really feel at a loss right now and don't even know how to continue testing with so many variables.
  11. I see. Given that 1g = 1ml , I can assume that I’ve been weighing out the fragrance oil correctly ? I’m waiting the 2 weeks of curing before lighting my last batch to make sure they’re all good and with too much time to research now I’m looking into everything I’ve been doing so much more to make sure everything is correct lol
  12. Does anyone weigh their fragrance oils in ml? I’ve been doing the calculations for FO in my soy wax at 8.5% and then convert the oz to ml so I could compare to my suppliers recommended amount which is in ml. I suppose if I’m weighing it on a scale and using weight, not volume, then it doesn’t matter if I’m using oZ or ml?
  13. In your opinion, what is the best soy wax for fragrance throw? I guess it would help regardless having peace of mind that freedom will be consistent once I learn the temps and amounts that work best. After all this testing it would be absolutely AWFUL if the next box of 464 was completely different and my method was irrelevant with the new batch 😰
  14. This is exactly the kind of confusion I’m finding when I try to search about it!! Lol nowhere is there a straight answer to this question. And now curiosity is getting the best of me and I have to see if the freedom will be different from 464 in any way. I’m reading a lot of things about 464 having inconsistent fragrance throws and batches in general which makes me very nervous. Just want a consistent, well working base to get my company off the ground !
  15. This may be a stupid question, but I've gotten mixed answers from suppliers I've asked... Is Freedom Wax pellets the same as GW464 flakes? I'm working through a 50lb box of 464 and was thinking to also maybe try the freedom wax, but have heard it's the same thing?? Any info here would be a huge help. Thanks!
  16. Hi! I've been testing and testing wicks for my 8oz and 16oz soy candle jars and have been obsessing over the flame flicker, although none have been too aggressive. I can't find a straight answer anywhere online (especially since candle making is so individual to each person), but was wondering, do you find the flame has a tendency to flicker more when it is halfway down the container? Should it be consistent all the way down? Some readings I've come across say the added trapped air flow can cause this to happen, and of course I will test the flame all the way down but is this a common occurrence?
  17. Thanks for the reply ! So you’re saying that difference fragrances, although using the same wax and same container, may need a completely different wick series? After months of doing this I truly still do learn something new about candle making every day!
  18. Hi ! I've been working with 464 soy wax and have endlessly been testing for months to get the best candle made. I am working on wicks right now and how they are affecting my hot throw - which i know is everything! I have been using HTP and premier cotton wicks. I feel like I am over wicked because on some of my 8oz candles that are 2 3/8" in diameter, the melt pool is full to maybe 1/2" in under one hour. However- what's really confusing me is that only on some fragrances does this happen! On other ones, the same wick same wax but different fragrance, the melt pool is a proper size at about 1/4" and stays at this depth. This is what makes me think the wicks I'm using are ok... Another question I have is - does the depth of the melt pool truly matter so much? How deep should melt pools get after 4 hours burning?
