  1. Thanks all, these give me a good place to start testing them I've been wanting to place an order with candlescience so this gives me a good excuse (as if I need one lol) I'll have to try that Cinnamon & Balsam, it sounds like it could be interesting. --Aileene
  2. See now you've all done it, my husband thinks you're all crazy lol. I was looking at the picture of the dipped tp (beautiful btw) & he says 'That's a pretty candle, I bet it burns really pretty' So I had to tell him it was dipped tp and make a note in my mind never to make one, because, while I love him, he'd be one looking for a wick to light the thing after dinner one night (and he'd think the pine cone was a fancy wick) I don't fully 'get' the dipped animal trend, but it does seem to be getting more and more popular, especially for things like baby's rooms around here. It may be worth looking into. (Especially since, as of today I am a new Auntie to a little girl, my poor son is still the only boy of his generation lol) Thanks for sharing that picture, --Aileene
  3. I have been on the search for a good...no, a great Christmas/pine tree scent. Everything I've come across is a little too much like cleaner or a 'bathroom' fragrance, as my DH calls it. We tried a couple of different ones about 4 years ago when I first ventured into all this on a large scale. I believe we tried one from peak, one from millcreek and another one that I can't remember off the top of my head and while I think the Peak one came close, after it had cured (in soy, an ecosoya cb I think) it had become that 'bathroom' pine. By bathroom pine, I mean that scent that isn't quite a cleaner scent, but that you use in those store bought air fresheners, if that makes sense. So (please) give me your tried and true Pine/Christmas tree scents. I'll take a 'mixed' scent at this point as long as the Pine tree is prevalent. When this scent is done the way we're looking for its my DH's favorite so that's why I am hunting for pine in May lol. --Aileene
  4. I've got the birthday cupcake and the almond rum cake, as well as a few other vanilla cakey types coming. I also went with the hot buttered rum as well. I am wondering if a bit of that with the cupcake and caribbean.... Well I won't know until they get here and I get them together lol. Wish me luck --Aileene
  5. I think I am going to try mixing Caribbean...we'll see how well I do lol. Now off to find a vanilla/yellow cake type note. I keep sniffing IGC trying to figure out what exactly the cake note is. --Aileene
  6. Thanks for all the great info and ideas. I have to put another order for my wax so I'll check out some more of her FOs. Thanks again, this really did help me keep from getting super overwhelmed with choices lol. --Aileene
  7. I love this scent, adore it, but Daystar is very much at the high end of my budget. (I have it in a lot of my bath products) I wish to try it in wax. (KY Parasoy) I was wondering if Island Goddess Cupcake had a twin...or maybe just a close relation our there somewhere a bit cheaper to test in wax? Thanks again, --Aileene
  8. I'm in testing stages now for tart/melt/wickless & I would like to have some scents & wax formulations ready to at least give some items as gifts during the fall/winter. So obviously I want to test fall/winter scents right now (although the spring/summer scents sure are enticing lol) I am testing KY parasoy right now and so far I am liking how it pours w/ the couple of scents I got with it (Santa's whiskers, pink sugar cookies) I pour both 2oz souffle cups & the 1oz scallop tarts right now, while I figure out scent and such for testing since those are what I have on hand. These are the scents I have picked out to test from NG if anyone could give me a quick review/idea of them that would be great: Fruity Rings Alien Type Apples and Oak Autumn Magic Bite Me Berry Bewitching Brew Buttercream Cupcake Candy Corn Elf Sweat Harvest Moon Orange Juice Cake Pumpkin Crunch Cake Reindeer Poo Blue Hawaiian DUDE Vamp Vogue Werewolf Witching Hour Sun, Moon & Stars Cane Sugar Cookie Cinderella Happy Birthday Vanilla Cupcake Magi Magic Snickerdoodle Cookies Tricks or Treats Sparkling Cider So there are the scents I am ordering now, any I should add or that are 'blech'? (I only ordered I know I have a couple 'holiday' types, but for right now I am wanting to just order fall to Thanksgiving and worry about the December holidays in my next order. Any other suppliers offer a better version? I'm looking at CS & possibly WSP for a future order, while I figure out where to get the majority of my scents. (I'm on the east coast if that makes any difference). Thanks in advance, --Aileene
  9. So I poured my first candles...it was scarey and exciting, I poured the birthday cake FO in the 16 oz jars that come in the mill creek kit, they smell and burn beautifully, although I got a little too excited and poured a little too hot so I was stuck with a little frosting and some wet spots. My husband says they make him hungry for cake every time I burn them, The melt pool burns all the way out, the only problem I seem to have is mushrooming, but that seems to be a common enough problem so I am going to do some more research on it and then wick accordingly. Thanks for the help and any future help Aileene
  10. Okay I lied (not intentionally) I don't have everything here ARGH. I forgot to by glue or wickstickum things for the containers. Well since I haven't bought them any suggestions on what is best, I would like to pick it up at a Michaels or Joannes so I can get it tomorrow instead of waiting for shipping Thanks, Aileene
  11. Thank you everyone for your warm and nice welcome. I am still nervous, but that will keep me from jumping into to much to fast (doesn't exactly stop me from opening my wallet though ) I will see if I can find a great vanilla from your suggestions. My grandmother hates the perfumey vanillas, she likes the creamy scented ones. I thought about mixing a lavender vanilla, just because that sounds good to me and combines both of her favorites...but I still have to find a good Vanilla and a good lavender seperately before I decide to combine and I just don't know if I will have enough time to do the testing that needs done before August. Heck, still deciding on the wax , trying to decide if I want to use ecosoya advance or the golden brands 415...so I have both sitting here waiting for me to see which I like better, we'll see.... Wish me luck and thanks for bearing with my rambles, Aileene
  12. lol, glad to know I wasn't the only one checking to see if the forum was back up Take care, Aileene
  13. So most of my candle stuff as arrived..I can safely start testing and seeing...only I keep staring at the boxes sitting next to the wall here in my office and they keep staring back. I know where and with what to start, just terrified of starting lol. I posted I am new to this, and I am...I used to make candles with my grandmother a very long time ago, but this is all on my own. I have the fire extinquisher handy and my notebook full of instructions. I made myself stick to one container to start out with (scent was another story, I couldn't stop :/ ) This isn't a post with a question, more of a 'its my first time alone' post so I had to get it out. And where better than here. It is really cold here today, so I may put off the candle making until after the mail runs in case one of the other scents I have arrives lol But I need to get on it, my grandmothers birthday is in August and she loves Vanilla, so I would like to have a safe and great candle to give her to say thank you for raising me and happy birthday. (btw any vanilla FO recommendations are appreciated) ok enough rambling thanks for letting me get my nervousness out, Aileene
  14. Thanks so much for the quick answer. so much information to absorb, trying to make sure I don't make too big a mess of it the first time out
  15. This sounds awesome to make with my daughter...she is 5 if it glitters, it's great. I would like to make some with her, too bad about the roller idea, she could have carried it around with her in her purse lol. I will have to get her some cute tins Aileene
  16. If someone can help me with this or point me in the right direction I would be forever greatful. I have a presto pot for the heating/melting of my wax, ideally I would like to keep from putting my FO and/or color in there if I can. I have 3 of the pour pots (someone was selling a lot on ebay) how do I keep the wax hot enough and add the FO at the right temp?... Do I heat the wax up to the temp that is called for on the instructions and then pour into the pot then adding the FO at the temp that those instructions call for (or what in the future my testing shows to be best) then pour into containers? This is the way that I understand to do it from what I have read and seen, please tell me if I am wrong or way off track. and any advice on how to keep my pour pot warm before I add the wax would be great. Thanks so much for all of your patience with my questions and excitement, Aileene Edit to add that I am doing container candles to start out with and using starter kits from peak and mc to see how I like their respective service and products.
  17. I didn't expect to hear back today, but I did, she is going to mail out a replacement FO on monday. They are great so far, I can't wait to get started. Just itching to, but I think I need to wait for a few more things, then I have to decide which kit to start with lol. Thanks, Aileene Edit: I got the container kit from Peak,
  18. Well got my first shipment (starter kit from peak) the only bad thing was one of my FO bottles was cracked, but at least the scent wasn't bad lol. I called and left a message about the broken bottle, but it arrived a little later in the evening, so I don't expect to hear anything until tomorrow. I am so excited to start this, but I am waiting until all my stuff arrives so I can actuall see everything I went crazy with and ordered lol. Many questions coming in the future, Aileene
  19. I am new as well and awaiting my wax and supplies. lol so no advice here, I had to stop my self before I ordered something from every single site lol. Aileene
  20. Thank you so much, I had a feeling that I was starting to run a little wild with this in the start. lol Then I began to second guess every little choice I made...so thanks again, now I just need to relax until my wax gets here Thanks, Aileene
  21. I ordered a 10lb IGI 4630 preblended container...the one that comes in the starter set on Peak so I have the 6 oz tins as well and 25 pretabbed zinc core 6" 51-32-18z as well as the starter set from mill creek, because I wasn't sure which way was up lol. I would like to stay with the cleaner burning candles, which I believe are the soy right? any advice would be great. Thanks, Aileene
  22. Hi, I think I may have got in over my head lol, but I really want to do this candle making. There are just so many directions to go and so many items to choose. Could someone give me a good starting place? I have got the basics. The melting pots and ordered a little bit of fragrance and wax, but then I got a little WOW feeling. so please any help would be awesome. Aileene
