Okay Im really new at this so what the heck is FO - why can't I use coloured crayons - they are non flammable.

I read where you can use a hair blow dryer and apply on the sides of the jar and this will remove lines but is quite a tedious procedure -----

I have just started into making gel candles and I bought a dye block and as you all know you only need a tiny amount. This block feels like crayon - can't I use coloured crayons to add to my melted gel? And, do I really need a thermometer?
