  1. This same thing just happened to me with their Olive Blossom. I called because I was getting an error message when I tried to add 16 oz bottles to my cart. They said because the 16oz bottles were out of stock and I would have to order the 8oz. Of course I asked if I could get 10 8oz bottles for the price of 5 16oz bottles because that is what I planned on ordering. They said no. So if I had purchased 10 8oz bottles it would have cost me $129.50. If I had purchased 5 16oz bottles, it would have cost me $109.75. To say I was frustrated was an understatement. I got two 8oz bottles to tide me over for a wholesale order, and the very next day, the 16 ouncers were in stock. When I spoke to the person on the phone the previous day, she told me she was not sure when the 16oz bottles would be in stock. That is why I am trying to replace as many BCN oils as possible...Olive Blossom has been hard to find, though.

  2. Nothing irritates me more than someone trying to get me to under cut my stated price. The thing that gets me are my friends who think I should just give my candle to them, because they are a friend. Not all do it, but some just feel they are entitled. One of my favorite lines, "I tell so many people I work with about your candles, you should give me a finder's fee." Really? Not to say I don't take care of my faithful followers, but come on...when you buy one candle every six months, give me a break. My favorite come back is, "When my kids' schools start discounting tuition, I will start discounting my candles."

  3. Is it 'our' responsibility as wholesalers to verify a tax id of a customer? I buy pallets of material directly from manufacturers (clariant, rhodia, hallstar and croda for example) and have never been asked to fax a copy of my tax certificate. The number is sufficient. the responsibility of the tax burden is on my company as the buyer. they are not the tax police.

Likewise, I do not require proof of certificates from customers who buy wholesale from me. It's not my responsibility to police them.

In Texas, a wholesale supplier that sells tax free to people has to have a copy of their resale certificate on file (electronic, hard copy, etc.) They can accept it once and then it serves as a "blanket certificate" for four years from the date of issuance. If the purchaser only makes tax free sales from that supplier, they only have to accept a copy of the resale certificate once every four years. If the customer makes even one taxable purchase from that supplier, then they have to issue a resale certificate to the supplier on their next tax free purchase even if it is within the four year window.

A lot of states have what is called "good faith acceptance" of resale and wholesale exemption certificates. Basically what that means is that if the certificate is filled out properly (meaning all the info in on the form that is required including a number), it will protect you in the event of an audit. You accept it in "good faith" from the taxpayer, and you are assuming they are issuing it in "good faith", i.e. all info is correct.

On my wholesale application I do ask for a state tax number and check it against our state's database. Texas has a great website: http://www.cpa.state.tx.us/ and on that site, you can check to see if a taxpayer is permitted via their TP number or name: https://ourcpa.cpa.state.tx.us/staxpayersearch/SlsTxpyrSearch.jsp

Bottom line...check with your state's tax revenue department...every state, although similar in a lot of areas, do have differences.

  4. You can get "banner" table covers. I am working on designing one right now that I will use for indoor shows. We went the conduit route too, for outdoor shows, but we just made the conduit run down the flush with the legs of the tent poles to the ground, then attached them with a bunch of zip ties which I covered up with tule/fabric. Anyway, I am using a local sign company for my vinyl table cover, but you can find them on line, for example: http://flsbanners.com/

  5. I just used mine for the very first time at a small show I did on Wednesday. Only processed about $300 in sales, but I really liked it. I used my iphone. I would like to eventually get an ipad (and not just to use this, but just because I want one, lol) but then would have to spring for the 3g access when I am using it away from a wifi. The iphone app allows me to swipe through the reader or manually enter the card (which I did not do). If I remember correctly, it costs a bit more for manual entry. The only issue I had was that several times I had to swipe several times for it to go through. Not sure if it was an old card...bad reader...user error. Not sure what would happen if you don't have wifi or 3g access short of manually recording the numbers somehow for later entry.

  6. Oooooohhhhhh!! I know! I know the one Nana is talking about! (not sure if it is the same as the OP) I even went to a candle conference and took some oils to swap with other candle makers and someone on here snuck the floatie oil into my box. I CRACKED up when I got home!!! I remember the handwritten note on the invoice, too. After the floatie oil incident (where the supplier said all the crap in the bottle was just "raw materials" and would not replace it for my fellow friend/candle maker) and the nice little note on my friend's invoice, I found replacements for all of their oils. It was easy to do. ;-)

  7. Dagnabbit! I have ordered three times form them and never got a tea light. *pout* I ordered KY's creme brulee and orange chiffon cake from RE and they both seem exactly the same. I will say the shipping is killing me. A while back I got two 2oz bottles of oil (trying to find an oil replacement) and 25 clamshells...shipping was $15.27. Recently I ordered 5 lbs of creme brulee and one pound of an oil I was going to test, and shipping was $20.36. Ouch.

  8. Totally agree with making the C bigger and having it "hug" the "herrywood". I am glad you changed the font because I did not know if it was Sherrywood, Skerrywood, and at first glance with the tree, my mind went to "Sherwood" as in Sherwood Forest. Maybe something like this (I just grabbed a font on my computer...don't have many gothic/old english ones):

  9. I have someone that I use that charges me $100 for each commercial photo I choose to use. She takes a ton of them at different angles, with different lenses, etc. She does not charge me a sitting fee or anything else, it is just a flat $100 for the final edited shot (digital format) that I can use for whatever I want (website, business cards, print ads, etc.). If you are interested message me on here and I will send you her info.

  10. my dad is a bungee freak, and being full time in an RV, theres always a million uses for them, but not a lot of space to stow 'em. He's picked up a couple of those tube mailers in a heavier weight cardboard and cut them to different lengths for the bungees. He then strings them from one end to the other on the inside and out, they stay straight and untangled and he can just grab a tube for the length he needs and have as many cords as he needs in that length. The tubes also stack pretty neatly in the stowage bns too.

We do similar, but use a wide pvc pipe that my husband cuts to size.

  11. Wow...I just read this AND your other thread from March. I have been using a new business card that I just got about a month or so ago. I have been using it VERY heavily since I just reopened and I have been buying a lot of supplies. I just checked, and for the record, nothing showed up on my account. Of the suppliers you listed, I use the following:

    Indiana Candle Supply

    Kentucky Candle Supply

    Natures Garden

    Bitter Creek North

    Amazon

Not sure if that is anything that would help.

I am very anxious to see what you discover after your CC company looks into it...do they think they can narrow it down to an exact supplier where the shop safe number was used? Also anxious to see if anyone else chimes in with issues as they did in your previous post. It's all just too coincidental!
