  1. Oh and was it "just" cease and desist and they renamed and replaced labels on their candles, or did they have to pay that company damages? Cause if it went the damage route that seems extreme for a company to do but I also know little about the legalities of it.
  2. This is all great advice. I'm really digging oval for larger jars and circles for smaller jars, white gloss and also white matte. The white gloss looks the most professional to me with our current design but we are experimenting. Karen can you tell me more about that legal dispute? Is there a thread or information online I can view? Also do you know if I have to avoid others candle scent names or do I just need to avoid EVERY scented name for products such as soaps, perfumes, etc even though we are just doing candles?
  3. I actually started several months ago but had been very slow going until Monday. I have a lot of candles here that I haven't tested but I also refuse to sell the untested ones unless they want it for decoration or cold throw and aren't burning them. It's also dead here anyways so it hasn't been an issue. We are waiting til we have more thorough testing before we come back. On the status jars the ones that have tested fine with wick and hot throw were ECO 14 the 3 inch diameter jhars and the 2 Oz status that worked well were ECO 4. I also hadn't read before I made these about tempering and also noticed some add coconut oil? So I'm definitely willing to redo these and test more. We had committed to this show long ago and I knew we weren't ready but didn't want to let down all the people, including my wife, who wanted it to happen. So I'm just turning away people if interested in an untested jar, and I'm good with that compromise
  4. First, I am not asking what should go on a label as I believe I have acquired this information. I am more wondering about the type of material you use, and how well it works. I am going to be using basically photographs with some additional information above and below it. I am wondering what type of labels do you use, and why do you use those? I'm sure a lot of our needs are different, but surely there are some commonalities. First, I know for a fact I can only use laser, as the only place that can print decent around here is my local Office Depot (I'm in a small town) and they can only print laser. I've been looking at Avery, but I am very open to any and all ideas. White glossy, white, clear, etc? I tried printing on some clear glossy and my labels didn't look great at all but I think white glossy would although I can't find any in the size I wanted. From my understanding, white glossy makes the colors "pop" more, which is ideal. I am using status jars. When using jars does the heat from the candle warp your label in jars? If so, is there a type of label that gets around this? I am also thinking of trying weatherproof labels. While I am not making candles specifically for outdoor use, if someone brings one outside and it rains on the covered jar, I would like that label to be intact. If a freak rainstorm comes and catches me off guard, I don't want to worry about ruined labels. I know it's more expensive upfront, but I could see it being worth it. I am not sure if I would still want it if it wouldn't look as good as say, white glossy, but I would certainly consider it. If it still looks as good, I think weatherproof would be the obvious choice. What do you use and can you tell me the pros and cons of your type of label?
  5. I have also found this quite helpful. I do have one question, when you use the Presto pot how do you use it exactly? I have these pouring pitchers: https://www.candlescience.com/equipment/pouring-pitcher So do I just set the pouring pitcher inside the Presto pot? Or do I put water in it, then the pitcher, or something else entirely? Also, what heat setting do you use? I'm using a griddle on a low heat and it leaves a lot to be desired. Dalekslayer, I have taken the plunge recently and spent a bit more than I would like but I have been getting some results I do like. I've made about 20lbs of wax and I haven't been able to test all these yet, but I made 10 lbs worth one day testing out various colors, scents, wicks, and jars, and I have attached what I ended up with. The room I took the picture in has no windows and thus no natural light, so the pic's colors are lighter and different. The pink, brown, and green are almost the same in real life, but the "blue" you see is actually a deep, pretty purple (LSU purple) and the orange is a neon orange. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153637211021877&set=a.10150350471291877.367606.513526876&type=3
  6. Edit: This is my first post on these forums ever! Hi, I have just started the craft and made about 25 or so pounds of GB 464. I do like what I am making, and I have been getting colors I like. I have been mainly sticking with the 2oz status, 12 oz status, and 21 oz status. 2 oz uses ECO 4 (although it's possibly a wee bit too large), and the other jars I've been using Eco 14 with good results. I have more frosting and wet spots than I like, but from what I've read, I need to embrace it or use solid color jars as I am always going to dye my candles, period. I have been wanting to test out other high quality waxes but from what I can tell, C3 seems the only real alternative. I was going to check out CB 135 but all I have found on here is people saying they can't get good hot throw, and if so, no thanks. CB 135 only using American farmers was a selling point to me, but if people can't get a nice HT, then I'm buying a subpar product and passing it off to my customers. I have seen advice to only use one type of wax, and that is great advice, but I do think I would like to try 2 and see which I like better after a 50lb case of each. I will eventually settle with one after reading a lot, hearing from seasoned chandlers, and after using up a lot of wax! I have a few questions. 1. Does the C3 work better in summer temperatures? I have read GB 464 as having issues shipping in warmer weather and may not be the best for an outside venue either. If the waxes are comparable, I could see this alone convincing me to stick with C3 if it's better in heat. 2. I am using ECO, do any of you prefer CD wicks? If so, why? 3. Are CD the same size as ECO, as in, is CD 4 equal to ECO 4? 4. Have any of you tried wood wicks in these? If so, yay or nay? 5. I have noticed sometimes people saying you need a two week cure. My first candle, red hot cinnamon from candle science has a CRAZY hot throw. Craaaaaazy, at 9% FO load and a little UV inhib, and I only let it cure a day. Have you tested a candle at 24 hours and got light HT, and then tested one that cured two weeks and its an extreme difference?
