I tried the search function, as I'm sure this has been discussed but I think the key words bring up too many hits and I couldn't find any info.

I'd like to make a lavender rose blend for valentine's day. Has anyone done this before? Lavender does well with my customers but not many other floral. Maybe blended with lavender the rose would be more appealing?

Does anyone have a recipe that they like for a lavender rose blend?

Is CS's rose a nice rose scent for 6006?

But what does a gray candle smell like? I can only really think of a rain scent and call it something "overcast" related?

Would you be able to use a heat gun instead of a repour? That's my method. I used to save extra wax in little tin foil muffin cups, reheat and repour. But now I just hit all my tops with a heat gun at the end of my candling session.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how it compares to 6006?

Update on NG's crackling fireplace: awesome HT and smells just like pine burning in a fireplace. I'm deeming it a keeper.

Now the question is, what color is a fireplace candle? Brown? Grey? Orangy-red?

Ray-- OOB it I definitely smell the pine and citrus right away. Hopefully when I get it in wax, it'll smell more earthy/smokey

Gail, I choose gingerbread as my 1oz free sample when I ordered from Aztec and made myself a gingerbread latte candle in a mason jar, while the candle was a touch overwicked, I really liked the gingerbread scent. Very spicy and genuine. Great throw in 6006. I will be ordering a pound of it for the holidays.

Also, Aztec had a shipping option now where for 5.60, they will ship up to 2 one pound bottles of FO in a padded usps envelope, which is awesome if you only need a few things.

Still curious what others thought of Aztec's Capri Blue Volcano dupe. I'm worried it's a bit weak :/ Hopefully with a different wick will help?

I had been meaning to try that Aztec sweet potato based on your recommendation in another thread, and I always try to do a little something fun for each holiday. So that will be a neat Thanksgiving candle.

If you want to get REALLY fancy, you could make little wax marshmallows somehow and set them on top of your hot cocoa candle.

Yay! This thread was meant for me! I do this all the time :)

Obviously the biggest trick is finding scents that use the same size wick and will smell good while mingling between layers.

I mostly do 3 layers in 12oz canning jars. My best seller by a landslide is pumpkin pie/apple cinnamon/cran-orange spice. A orange and red pumpkin/apple cinnamon would certainly attract attention and sell well for you this time of year!

People love the look of them and the "gimmick" of the different layers of scent. And for some reason I always put the lighter color on top. I just like the look of it (like my profile pic!)

Some other ideas for this season that I've been playing around with:

-Vanilla/cinnamon (I call this candle "the classics" people get a dorky kick out of it. And I actually make it in tilted layers so that there is more burn time that is a mix of vanilla and cinnamon)

-Vanilla/pumpkin (or a cinnamon vanilla blend/pumpkin)

-Vanilla/blueberry cobbler (or any bakery scent, really)

-Apple/cran-orange (or a spiced version with apple cinnamon/cran-orange spice)

-apple and pine (I recently discovered how well a good pine mixes with other scents)

-cranberry/pear

-pumpkin/coffee

The possibilities are endless. And when doing just 2 layers, it's fun to make tilted layers. It really catches the eye of the customer!

Caribbean Teakwood by Candlesciece is a great, masculine scent with tobacco, leather, peppery, and woodsy notes.

It's one of my best sellers in general but men always love it.

SKS and Aztec's jars are close but slightly taller. That was going to be my back up plan.

The salsa jars are nice but my daisy cut threaded kids dont fit them. So then half my candles would be one style with one kid and the other half would be another style with another lid. I really wanted to avoid that. Plus I just really like those straight sided stout jellies.

Becky- candlescience has the 8oz tapered but not the 8oz straight sided. But I almost wish I had never discovered that straight sided ones so I could just order everthing from CS. Alas, I fell in love with the straight sided jars.

Trappeur- thank you for the suggestion. If I do have to switch jars, those will probably be what I go with. I would just hate to have my displays out and some candles are in one style jar and some are in a different style jar. Plus my 8oz jars use the daisy cut lid, which does not fit the salsa jars.

I know I could get the tapered ones that most people have. But I really like the aesthetic of the straight sided ones. And if I start with the tapered ones now, half of my candles will be in one jar and half in another and that won't look optimal for a display :/

I'm starting to learn what sells well at what type of craft show also. It is interesting finding these treads.

I offer 16oz jars for $14 dollars and they barely sell. I pretty much only make those to order now. But the Halloween palm series (8oz for $10) sell very well. And I do a 12oz jar with 3 different layers of scent and those sell like crazy at $14. People seem to really like "special" seasonal/holiday stuff. I think I'll put my creative energy into stuff like that for the rest of candle season.

I'm glad I asked you guy. My instinct was to skip making gift baskets but my mom and sister kept telling me that I *absolutely have* to make them for the holiday season. I'm skipping it.

Old Glory- the bulk of my sales are my jelly jars. I sell the 4oz for $6 or 2 for $10, and the 8oz for 2 for $15. People buy those up like crazy. But for a show to be successful for me, it means I need a LOT of foot traffic and people buying those twofer deals. I am starting to try to sneak in some higher priced candles with a better cost to price ratio for me. But, my palm in 8oz square mason series has been a smashing success so I'm going to expand that line a bit. I sell those for $10 and no one even hesitates or bats an eye at the price.

I have some big holiday events booked and was wondering what luck others had with making and selling gift baskets.

They kind of seem like a pain in the butt, but my price points are pretty low, so I though gift baskets might add a higher priced item into the mix.

Do you make and sell gift baskets? What do you put in them? I was thinking categories of scents such as "fruity", "floral", "holiday", " spicy", etc..

What kind of prices do gift baskets go for?

Or is it all an unnecessary hassle?

I make 4oz and 8oz jelly jars, as well as 16oz masons and some various other seasonal stuff.

I sell my 4oz jellies for $6 or 2 for $10. That 2 for $10 deal is- by a landslide- what I sell the most of.

But I do a lot of farmers' markets and pop up markets where people might not be looking to buy candles and that 2 for $10 deal is a really easy, guilt free impulse purchase.

My pint canning jars have just slightly over a 3" diameter and I use a LX18 for most of my fragrances in that jar. I'd probably start there. My jelly jars have a 2.75" diameter and I use a CD10 in those.

My solution to this problem was to hold the phone for them while they sign.

Yet another vote for CS honeysuckle jasmine.

I don't care for florals either, so I thought I'd pick something interesting and different and I tried CS hydrangea. I LOVED it. Throws really well and is such an earthy/almost spicy, interesting floral. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something a little different. I made it in bright blue and purple and customers loved it.
