  1. Hello Moonshadowlane,

I just saw your carved candle post.... wow, beautiful work. I'm also "trying" to do carved candles. I'm new to candle making, only a few months in. I have a few questions and wouldn't mind your help....

What type what do you use (core and dipping).

Did you experience separtion from the color dipping and what did you use to make them stay bind together.

    Do you use any additives?

Thanks you so much if you answers my question. Please keep posting pics of your work, it's inspirering.

  2. Good Morning... I tell you guys one thing, I have more respect for candle-makers. You guys that are experienced, make it look so easy... I say to myself "I could do that!" However, you try it and you understand the difficulty of the hard work in it. Never the less, I'm not giving up. With that said... Okay, I'll increase the temp of my wax and see how that works. Also, I'll look into micro-crystalline. I haven't heard of it but interested in finding out more on how it works and see if I need to use it. Once I have a reasonable candle made, I'll post a picture. Thank you guys for the reply. All the help is greatly appreciated. NickieB
  3. I just carved my first candle and what a disaster. The first one my layers were all separating. The color was too light (wanted Red and got Pink). So I added more red pigment.... solved that problem the second candle made. Third candle came out a little better. However, on all three candle attempted, my wax kept cracking. Straight after my last dip, I carved the bottom off and began.... so the wax was still warm... still cracked layers? The wax I'm using is IGI 1343. I've made the mold with no problem. Can anyone assist me and give me some experienced feedback no what you think I'm doing wrong...? Oh and the temp I'm dipping at is 145 F. Is that too hot? Thanks everyone who helped...
  4. I'm about to register and acquire my permits for my business.... Pretty simple process for Alabama. What I want to know is what you guys stated for ... ... Type of Business ... Type of product I'll be selling at craft shows and will start selling online. I'm thinking of putting for these questions: type of business - sales and type of product - candles. Am I correct...? Thanks for the help...
  5. Looks pretty.... what set up are you using for dipping?
  6. Jcandleattic, thanks for the reply. I plan on getting some of those dvd.... but I'm more interested in hands-on training.
  7. Hello all, First, I love this site... so much information. About me, I'm new to candle making and see I have a lot to learn. I'm going to focus on carving candles for now, then going to try other candle designs (tarts, jarred, pillars, etc). For now, I would like some suggestion from experienced candle makers. Here are some questions... 1) what wax would you use and what supplier do you get it from? 2) the dip vats... what set up do you use? 3) Is there someone out there that wouldn't mind training me... I live in Alabama but willing to travel? message me contact info and price please. Looking for dates around May. I'm sure I'll have more question later and some have been already been answers through other posts in this forum.... thanks. I'm starting with a start up budget of 2500... I've focused my days into research and youtube videos. Now I'm focused enough to start this craft and after a few months, become an experienced carver. Thank you all for you time and help...
