  1. WSP discontinued cetyl alcohol and I can see why. Their version is HORRIBLE. It was translucent beads and must have had a lower melt point. It's nothing like the white flakes the other suppliers (LC and Herbarie) carry. I pitched mine after only a few scrub batches went awry.

  2. After an hour of fighting with a pail of stearic, my hubby and I gave up when he said "open the spot and pour it out for now" and we did. The next day, my daughter walked by and asked if we were able to get it open. I was working and turned my attention back to the product while complaining about pails in general. She kept saying "Mom...Mom...Moooommm..." I turned and she was holding the lid in her hand! Apparently, opening the spout hole released the pressure... :laugh2:

I have some that are nearly impossible to open, though, and nothing helps to loosen them, even though they've had years of opening and closing. That MMS tool looks great...thanks for posting!

  3. BCN must have really improved their Pina Colada. I've had a bottle for a couple of years that is so weak you can barely detect it in the bottle...hence the reason I still have it. No throw at all in paraffin. Yeah Mon is a hundred times stronger OOB, but haven't tested it yet in my soy blend.

  4. Nope, higher price definitely doesn't equal better in some cases.

For instance, I have Coconut Lime Verbena from WSP (now $31.50/lb but I got it before their insane price increase so I think it was only in the mid-20's back then.) Anyway, I also have some from another supplier...ICS I believe...exactly the same for half the price. Profit margin...and let's not forget demand...prices tend to go up as the forum raves and demand increase...==

It always pays to test. You may find an $18 oil that is comparable to a $26 oil...ya never know. If you want unique/unusual with a bit more depth, those are usually worth the price for bath and body, but not necessarily candles. I seem to be in the minority, but candle-wise, I can't get away with lower usage rages with the $24-30/lb oils as much as others can. Then again, I have wax issues so maybe it's just me. :undecided

  5. Christine, you are awesome!! An example/instructions would be wonderful. Whatever we can do to help, just yell.

The Official Gazette is published every Tuesday and may be found on the USPTO site by clicking on Trademarks on the left then Official Gazette. A link at the top of that page brings up the last 5 gazettes to choose from. I'm not sure if this is a stable link (some expire each visit) but the one I'm on is http://www.uspto.gov/web/offices/com/sol/og/index.html

They are huge files...the April 10 one is 115 MB with 1,386 pages. You can also purchase printed copies for $65/copy or $1,536/year. :shocked2:

  6. That is so awesome of you! :D

Ok, thinking it would seriously help to have numbers, we should all definitely get involved. Now, for those of us who suck at putting our thoughts into a well-written note, does anyone have a general note that we can expand on? It would obviously hurt our cause to send something that sounds like a 3rd grader wrote it OR to copy the same note from several people, but a general outline might help some of us.

  7. Required registration to order was the chief complaint in a survey of customers so I wouldn't want to tick them off. I, for the most part, like being able to register and view past orders, have a wish list, etc.:undecided I just had to use those features on a couple of supplier sites because I couldn't find things I need for production today and wanted to make sure they *are* here somewhere. Now I know to dig through our storage area for excess supplies...even if I don't want to! I'll definitely check to see if/when the no registration mod is ready.

  8. To read Jaqua's story (although I'm sure it's embellished for PR purposes), they started off making products in their garage/at home. I remember reading an article about some of the problems they encountered so you'd think they would at least have some respect for others. Of course, it's all about money and market share when you get BIG.

Tall Blonde, yes, that's right. Philosophy, VS, BBW and Yankme are the top 4 who vigorously defend their trademarks now so it is a strong possibility that there will be a huge list of scent names we can no longer use if they continue as they have the last couple of years. Add to that the phrases that I've seen for BBW (like Beauty for Body & Soul or Clean Fresh Pure) and there eventually won't be anything left.

So, Incandessence has a very good point...what do we do?

  9. I'm all for protecting the unique and unusual, but buttercream frosting, red velvet cake and pina colada that have been available scents since the stone age, COME ON. Pink Buttercream Frosting, yeah, Buttercream Frosting, ah, no...

All of the above are/will be registered for skin care preparations, i.e, lotions, creams, body wash, so on and so forth. Originally, Philosophy only tm'd for use on products similar to their 3-in-1 body wash, shampoo, bubble batch, but now they are tm'ing for all skin care and filing supplemental registrations for the ones like pina colada that they already own. What they do is file for one specific item, like 3-in-1, then once that is fully registered, they file a supplement covering ALL related products in the class. That way, they most likely breeze right through with something common since they own it for a specific item already.

  11. Jaqua has the following trademarks pending. They've been published for opposition so it's not looking good. Us little guys can't catch a break...soon there will be nothing left. :angry2:

  12. Thanks, smellywax! I've been needing several items from there for a while and haven't ordered so now I have an excuse to do some serious damage!

Kalamazoo, good to know since a few suppliers use the 28 size bottles instead of the usual 24. I'll give them a look-see, thanks!

  13. After seeing some many "help, I'm pulling my hair out" type of posts, I assumed Zen Cart would be much too difficult! If I remember correctly, it wasn't on the list because customers *have* to register to order? An overwhelming majority of our customers said that they would prefer that registration not be required.

I think I might revisit it and play around, though, just in case. Free is always good! ;)

  14. Anyone familiar with both of these and have opinions? Is one harder to set up and customize than the other?

The price tag is high for both to include the features I'd like (actually higher with LiteCommerce!). But I'm wary of shelling out that much money for the wrong one.

    Thanks!
