  1. Thank you all for your kind comments, it's very encouraging. I know I have a long way to go before I get as good as all of yours, but I have nothing but time...lol. This weekend I'll wick them and see how they burn.

flutterbye--I used my husband's yogurt containers, it's the first time I ever used something else besides my tried and true metal votive molds.

Candybee--I just took a look at you post and both your pictures and candles are breathtaking. Can't wait to see more.

  2. Well I've finally gathered enough nerve to post my first pics. These are my first chunkies and they're scented with Mimosa & Mandarin. For the chunks I used the last of my 4794 and overpoured with some 4625. I already know they're not that great but would welcome any comments. Thanks for looking. That is if I can get them on here..lol.

  3. Hi and welcome to the boards, sorry I'm not able to offer any help for your soy needs, but I can tell you that this candle making thing is very addictive and everyone here is super helpful, just turn yourself into a sponge and soak up all this free knowledge. Also the search button is your friend, a lot of information can be found just by doing a search. Hope this helps.

  4. DT you sound like me...there's so much candle stuff out there that it can become very overwhelming when you're just starting. I'm going to be moving on from votives to containers very soon and I've been doing a lot of research on this board and the archived one as well, then I cut and paste the info onto a Word document then add that to my "candle making" binder. One can never have too many notes. Good luck and have fun.

  5. I put mine in the freezer to get hard then I...

***Wack it w/ the hammer - I love doing this, especially after one of those days at work!!! :yay: Or you can go outside and drop it on the concrete a few times. Make sure you wrap it up w/ an old pillow case or something so wax won't go flying everywhere.

Totally agree Andrea, I wrap mine up too and lean it slanted against my back steps then whack it with a hammer a few times.

  6. I LOVED my Darice embossing tool. However since I killed it, I've never been the same. It was a pretty blue, lightweight... oh sniff sniff.. LOL!~! :laugh2:

I think that's the one I have and I love it. Got it on sale at AC Moore for $5.00 bucks. Next time I use it I'll say a prayer for your beloved:(

  7. I've only ordered FO's from Candle Science and Peaks so I guess this is where experience pays off because I assumed that the location would offset the actual price--guess I was wrong.:embarasse Oh well, thanks again for your input, as always you've been a great help.

  8. I bought a case of disposable wooden chopsticks at an Asian Market. I break them in half and use them to stir my wax. The case of 200 was 2.99 and I actually got 400 stirrers out of them.

Great tip Sab, I've been using Wilton's lollipop sticks, from my old cake decorating days, but they sure don't sell that many for $2.99. I'll have to check out our Asian market this weekend.

  9. Wow, you two sure are thorough, I never even noticed(duh)

I just shot them an e-mail asking for more info about their company and a free sample, although I doubt I'll get it, but it never hurts to ask.

But thank you for "trying" to check it out for me anyway.:)

  10. I ordered IGI's 4625 pillar blend to make free standing votive and to venture out into the pillar world, but I'm not sure what wicks to use. I ordered a votive sample pack from Candle Science but now I'm starting to second guess my choice. Any suggestions of wicks that work well with this wax? I did a search but could not come up with much.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Guilty as charged. I got fed up waiting for my double boiler to reach a decent temp (besides all the steam it was generating - I'm not into saunas. LOL) so I always put my melting pot directly onto the electric burner (and yes, I do watch the temps. pretty carefully). Mind you, I only make about one candle at a time so don't know what impact melting large quantities would have.

Yes it is a pain waiting on the double boiler and I've been so tempted to do it, especially with my repours, but I know as sure as my name that I'll get distracted and forget the darn thing is on the burner.
