Whew! Glad to hear you're still around Kathy - was worried for a minute there!
-
Oh man!!
I've been enjoying their wax so much since I got it last week, I really hope it doesn't mean they went out of business. Their FO's are awesome too.
-
jennifer,
i curled the wick by wrapping it around a wooden sckewer that rested on top of the jar to hold the wick in the center while the wax cooled
Thanks! I figured it was something simple like that, LOL!
-
Can I ask how you got your wick to curl - that's cute. I've noticed a few others do that too - I've never seen it before (I'm fairly new here).

At my party, we had 3 types of wine, fall/halloween candies, snickerdoodle cookies, flavored coffee, chips/pretzels/dip but I thought a cheeseball and crackers would have been nice but we forgot it.

Oh my goodness, no...we are not trying to jump in now and be ready with product by Christmas. Maybe NEXT Christmas.
And yes, I do have another post out there asking about required label information, and have been searching posts related to insurance too. So, yes, we are looking at the whole picture, which is why I am here asking questions . Though I do have to say, I think you've all discouraged me more than enlightened me....haha...but i'm not giving up, I want to do this!!
Don't get discouraged! If you really enjoy making candles then you won't mind all the testing that goes into it. I bet you can find some good guinea pigs ... I know we all have friends and family who love to test our candles. As for making money, you probably could if you have an awesome product and can afford lots of money ahead to buy in bulk. In the beginning, I couldn't afford to buy in bulk ... it's taken me four years to get there! But, I don't do it to make money really, I enjoy pouring candles (I'm a stay at home mom to five children and I homeschool three of them so far) and its a nice outlet for me to relax after the kids are in bed. I enjoy selling my products to use that money to invest in a larger supply of candle scents and wax. I can't wait until someday when I can have 100 real sized bottles of scent (not just testers) and be able to buy 200 lbs of wax at a time instead of just 50lbs
Hang in there - it also helps if you have business sense (which I don't)

Their Board looks just like this one!!! I didnt realize it was for Party Lite consultants,,ROFLMBO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yep - so why not learn from the trained consultants!

Here's a great site I discovered before doing my first home party:
It's geared for PL consultants but you can apply it to your own candle business, they have grerat ideas on their message boards. Check it out!

Excellent! Thanks for doing the experimenting for us

Wow! Great info - I appreciate your help!

The two I absolutely cannot stand are Warm Vanilla Sugar (ick ick ick ... turns my stomach even typing it!) and Sex on the Beach (smells like kerosene and gives me a headache). :tongue2: :tongue2:

What do you all do when it comes to shipping candles? Do you do a flat rate or exact costs? I just mailed my first out-of-town order today and was shocked that it cost me $9.50 to ship three 16 oz candles. eeeks!
-
Do any of you use FO's from the Candle Source in your soy wax? If so, what were your results? Their prices are so inexpensive so it makes me wonder how great they are...
TIA!

I jumped the gun, wicked my Cocoa Cappucino with HTP-105, burned for 5 hours. It smelled nice, but there was an additional scent I could not put my finger on. I am using the remaining ounce in plain MC soy and determine if it was the BW I was smelling. Otherwise it was pretty good stuff!
I'm sold. I'll have to order it next time. I'm chomping at the bit to place another order for scents soon...

I poured the Balsam & Spice last night. When I first smelled it in the bottle I said "ick" but in the wax...yuuuuuum. I will re-name it Christmas Spice for the holidays because it smells really piney/eucalyptus-y. My 9 yr old son said it was his favorite of all, LOL! I can't wait to test burn one

This may be a dumb question, but which dye block are you using? Is it the one specifically called Navy Blue or is it one the other blues?
Well, I'm using "Navy Blue" right now since the other blues I tried were ugly and now the navy is just as ugly
I may try adding a little black - or heck, maybe some of this purple!!
-
The only color I can't seem to achieve in soy wax is navy blue. I use the dye blocks. I got a beautiful dark purple last night. I can't figure out why the blue won't get dark like that, it just stays an ugly medium blue. Even red and brown look great. Any suggestions?

You might smell the bw -I know on their forum some people say they can, so its probably not your imagination. Maybe you can lower that bw%. Some FO's it might not effect. I've never had this problem (knock on wood :tiptoe: .)
So how was the burn? You can always make the same candle w/ and w/out bw and burn at the same time side by side. Observe and see which one burns better and has a better hot throw. Another thing -if you find that the hot throw is not strong, cap it and try it after a week some scents need a week or two curing time. HTH
I'm glad it wasn't my imagination! LOL! I know I could smell some bw in it!
I was wondering about curing this wax for a certain period of time. The wax I've used the past few years needed very little curing time it seems. Thanks for letting me know it may take a week or two.
The burn was good, smell was really good .. I was testing the wick mostly, I wasn't sure which wicks to get so I ened up with 51-32-18C for my 8 oz and 62-52-18C for my 16 oz. So far so good.

I am test burning my 8 oz Hillbilly Homebrew and I swear I can smell a hint of beeswax in it. Is it my imagination? It probably is but I thought it was funny anyway since this is my first experiment with the MC soy and bw Other than that, all looks/smells good so far!
-
BTW I got my sample scents from MC and they smell great! I made a 20 oz tureen with 8% FO load using the Cocoa Cappucino, and the cold throw for two days cure is decent. Will wick it up this Wednesday and check the hot throw.
So you like the cocoa cappucino? I wanted to get it but was scared to. I'm the only one I know IRL (it seems) that likes the chocolate scents.

Thanks Geekrunner! That helps tremendously ... I just didn't want to mess this up. I took a good guess. I just finished pouring Magenta Nectar (OMGoodness is this one yummy), Coconut Groove, Litsea and Basil and Hillbilly Homebew (another YUM). They all are smelling so great right now. My husband would think I was baking if he were home. I can't wait to test them. I think I'm going to have to get some more MillCreek scents to test ... they are really fab.

Creme Brulee
Blueberry Cobbler
Apple Pie (ick, I can't stand it)
Cinnamon Toast
After making some Hillbilly Homebrew candles today, I have a feeling they are going to be on the most popular list as well ... YUM!
-
Dark Purple, pale lavender or navy blue ... those are the colors I've used for it anyway

Maryann, I am no good at math. How do I figure that? I got 4.5 grams but I still cannot convert that. Is is 1TBS bw for 1 Cup of soy wax?

I'd like to know too. I store all of my candles in a room that gets down to around 55 degrees in the winter.
