  1. Hello all,

I find this forum and your advice invaluable in helping me acquire the knowledge to get better and better at making candles. I have used so much info in all my testing.

There is a wealth of information here but I wanted to ask if there are other sites that you also use to acquire knowledge or ideas or insight into becoming better chandlers.

Would love to hear which sites you have found useful over the years.

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Guys, Thank you so much for the detailed responses.

have been using high temp glue and Permatex Blue but will now switch to Red and try that out as well.

Paul, thanks for the tip on heating the container to 180 for 10 mins. I used pliers and the wicks came right out of two of my more expensive tester containers.

Stella, thanks for the detailed response/explanation.

Again...thanks for all your responses and guidance everyone.

  3. Hi all,

I am conducting some tests for container candles and trying to reuse the containers to lower my costs during testing.

I started using double sided wick tabs/adhesives but find that the tabs don't always adhere well to the bottom of the tins and sometimes start floating even as I am pouring the wax. Very frustrating.

I read on these forums that some experts have used Permatex Blue RTV to stick the wicks more securely. That works like a charm. The problem is that I can't get the wick tab to come off now after the wax has burned through :angry2:

Can you guys please provide some advice. What adhesive should I use? What's the easiest way to get the wicks off after having used Permatex....any suggestions will be welcomed.

    thanks !!

  4. First of all Stella - you are a wealth of information. I am just curious how many years you have been making candles.

And have a question on your comment.....single wick unless diameter is >= 4". I have been experimenting with 444, 464, C3 and CBA. Do you have any experience with these when it comes to containers 3"-4" in Dia. If so, can you please tell me which wicks/sizes worked best for you in getting FMP, Throw, etc. I think I read somewhere that you preferred CDNs. Thanks for your help.

  5. Hello All,

I am fairly new to the forum and reading all your posts have helped me tremendously.

I wanted to ask the gurus the following for container candles:

    1. have you tried making container candles with coconut wax (even if blended with soy)

    2. has any tried a 100% beeswax candle. I understand a 100% beeswax candle is going to be very expensive. But from what I understand it is 100% natural as opposed to the argument against Soy Wax being 100% natural.

    3. Is Coconut Wax considered to be 100% natural?

Any help or info you can provide before I look into trying both these waxes would be great.

Thank you in advance for your help.

  6. I have been trying 464, 444, C3 and CB Advanced Soy with Eco wicks. The only other wick I have used is CDN with 464. It seemed to work well with 464 and in my experience so far Eco has worked well with CB Advanced. With the others it seems to achieve melt pool, you have to Wick Up (go up a size).

The biggest challenge with EO is cold and hot throw. And there are certain EOs that just don't work too well in Candles.

I am a novice at this as well but just sharing all I have experienced thus far.
