  1. thanks for the answers, the reason i tried pouring a little hotter was i was getting air bubbles before so i was advised by someone on here to try pouring a little hotter so see if that would get rid of them. the pit im getting on the bottom of my candle is pretty big just now but thanks for the advice and ill try making sure its cool enough before making the relief holes. the only thing is im worried that if i cant get the put smaller, itll make the candle itself a lot smaller.....i guess its all trial and error and im still learning!! thanks for all the help :highfive:

  2. i seem to be!! sorry everyone but im looking for yet more advice! im using paraffin wax that comes in beads if that helps anyone. im pouring (uncoloured unscented wax) at 85oC although I have pured before at 82. im using a plastic opaque circular mould and i have tried poking relief holes. the only thing is as the wax cools theres a huge pit left in the mould by the wax so i have to do about 2-3 repors. if i did this in a notrmal pillar and was using different colours for different layers surely it would be noticable that i'd had to do a few repors? is there any way of cutting down the size of the big pit in the wax so i dont have to do so many repours? im wondering if im missing something obvious but im getting so frustrated with myself that i still cant make a decent pillar! is it the mould im using maybe? who knows??? all ideas/help/info would be greatly appreciated just now (sorry just like the face!!)

  3. hi everyone

ive just bought some scents from fullmoons cauldron in the uk and they arrived today woohoo!! :yay: anyway.....the bottles are 10ml. how much do i add if i want a fairly subtle fragrance? this question has probably been asked a few times before so sorry if it has. a bit of help would really be appreciated. <<<just gonna post that face cos i luv it hehehe

  4. what size wick should i be using for 60mm candles? i thought i was using one too thick, maybe not then! no sorry it doesnt actually say what the wick is made of which doesnt actually help! im in scotland, id use cm myself but only started using mm as thats wot it says on me wick hehe :grin2: actually ive found another wick that i have that just says "medium" hmm very helpful! was thinking of buying the one that says "thin." i know this doesnt really help as it doesnt give any measurements but i can buy that in a shop and trying to order as little as poss online as itll cut down on postage, then again maybe i should order ito nline least then i should know the measurements....

  5. hi everyone

even before i ask i think this isa stupid question, i dont wanna waste more time and wax so thought i better ask to be sure. ive been tryin to make pillar candles, with different coloured layers. i know im meant to poke relief holes in the wax but is this for a pillar candle of one colour or am i supposed to poke holes, then fill the layer and repeat for all layers as nescessary? thanks for helpin me out!!

  6. hi everyone

been trying to make some basic pillar candles and having more problems!! to be honest im not too sure what width of wick im using, it just says "medium" and I've also been using wick that says for use with candles that have a diameter of 51mm, my candles are 60mm. the problem is the flame is really high, a lot higher than it should be. what can i do about it? thanks!! :grin2:

  7. hi

sorry if this has already been asked before, but i seem to have a few bubbles in my pillar candle. i used different colours of dye in it, apart from that its just a normal candle. can anyone suggest why this has happened so it doesnt again? thanks!!

  8. hi everyone

well ive managed to find a site in the uk that does some candle scents woohoo! the only problem is they odnt have many so ill need to try and find a few more suppliers, can anyone help with this? also i seem to remember on this thread at some point a post that told you what scent you'd get if you mixed certain scents together. maybe im wrong but if im right id appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction of the post! would be handy to know what scents i can concoct!! thanks

  9. thanks for the advice, thinl ill have to watch the wax temp but ill try the squishing against the sides idea as well! ive only got one mould just no, so each candle is taking a long time to create! anything else i could try and use as a mould til i can get some more? the site in the uk that ive found takes orders by phone fax or email, dont think mail is that secure and dont think people in london would understand me accent easily.......lol hmm:drool:

  10. hiya

i posted another message aobut this somewhere else but sorry if it was a bitty garbled lol.

i tried to make a candle using red and orange chunks and used a light yellow for the overpur wax. the only thing is i cant see many of the chunks as a lot of the wax has gone down between the mould and the chunks , obscuring most of them. how can i get round this problem? just cant see what i should be doing to fix it! thanks

  11. sorry whats fo? and yeah i just said sorry again so sorry for being sorry hehe  and yup its the drooly face again just beacuse i liked it. yeah itll mean a lot of testing and experimenting and even if i dont get the results i want itll be fun trying! local stockist seem to be non existant so looks like ill be ordering wax etc from the net which will be expensive but nevermind!

just oone quick question though, ive been trying to do chunk candles, but the wax im pouring in seems to hide the colour of the chunks i already have in there, i tried to have red and organge chinks and plain wax to show the colours up better, but they seem to have been mostly hidden again! i have a pic but dont see how to post it any hints and advice would be appreciated!

  12. hi everyone

sorry im yet another newbie hehe

i made some of my own candles years ago when i was young, just buying candle kits. now id like to make some more and hopefully sell them. i was just thinking of keeping it simple just now and just melting wax, pur it into a mould, let it set and see what the outcome is to be honest!! im in scotland, could anyone help me find uk stockists of scent etc for when i get more adventurous! what could i use for moulds for wax or do i really have to buy them? am i better off just sticking to this approach or could anyone suggest other basic candle making techniques i could try til i have a better idea what im doing?! :D thanks for any help you can give me and im gonna use this little smiley  just cos i like it¬ hehe
