  1. Back to the drawing board!

So my last attempt that was nothing but stress:

    1.5oz FO/pp

    1tbsp CO/pp

    Color

    UV

    8oz & 12oz Status Jars

I tried Wicks: Zinc, RRD, HTP, CD.. everything ended in mushrooms and soot..

So now I'm starting probably where I should have started:

    1oz FO/pp

    1tbsp CO/pp

    Color

No UV (saving it since I've used so much of it)

    8oz & 12oz Status Jars

I'm also doing a second batch with 85% 6006 and 15% Xcel using the same ingredients as above.

So in this NEW attempt to find the right wick I'm allowing them to cure for 2 days. I'm hoping to see less soot and a better MP... I'll post my results as they come thru.

  2. Hi Everyone!

I've been testing different waxes, Xcel and 6006. I posted a thread in the Veg section so this question is for the 6006 and the status jars.

I'm overstressed trying to figure out the wicking in the 6006's. I've been testing using ECO's and they burn way too hot and smoke.. if I use a smaller size the burn pool stays small and doesn't reach the glass..

    I'm using 6006, status jars 8oz and 12oz, 1.5oz FO/pp and using liquid dye.

Anyone using the same kind of combo that can help?

  3. Hi Everyone!

So I've been testing and testing and testing some more and I'm having such a hard time wicking this wax with this jar. I'm using the 8oz, & 12oz jars.. I have the 21's oz but its the same as using the 12oz in diameter.

So I've tried HTP's and the produce a lot of black smoke.. I've been trying the ECO's and it its too big then I get black smoke, if its too small the pool only goes out so far... double wicking seems to be too hot.

I feel like I'm going to pull my hair out! Anyone using this combo that can help?

Alos.. using 1oz/pp of FO, no color.

  4. I bought a TON of Cotton Core Wicks when I first started my candle adventure thinking that they would be the BEST ever.. they didn't work with the CB Advanced.

Anyone have any suggestions as to which wax works best with Cotton Core Wicks?

These are the waxes I have on hand.. just don't know where to start.. or if I should start... or if any of these wax w/ Cotton Core are a waste of time and waste of product???

    IGI 6006

    IGI 4630

    IGI 1274

    CB Pillar Blend

    CB-Advanced

    Thanks for all the help

  6. I just ordered sample packs for CD's and ECO's.. I'm really hoping the ECO's work.

I found on Candle Science a wick guide..

it says for Xcel users to use the ECO but I don't want to waste anymore time and $$ if they don't work so I figured I'd just buy the CD sample pack too just to be sure.

Was doing a ton of research last night via NGI's website. They have a Distributor's Llist that really helps figure out lowest shipping cost to the consumer :) Hope this helps those who are still looking for local distributors.

  7. That's a very good question.

How big of a booth space are you going to have?

Are you going to have display shelves?

I would recommend you have several of each fragrance and size..

Put out a special promo for a certain fragrance.. like buy 2 get the 3rd half off.. or Today Only 20% off all Candles..

  8. For those who do and don't color their soy candles.. do you ever see black soot coming off the wick?

    I'm still in testing mode..

I'm using HTP wicks, Ecosoya CB Xcel and will not be coloring my candles.. but did color a batch before I made my final decision. This last batch I made was Fudge Brownie (Peak) and I used liquid dye and I'm seeing that ugly black burn coming from the wicks.

    Feedback appreciated :)

  9. Thanks for the feedback :)

I've been using CB Advanced but didn't quite like it.. always had a waxy smell in the burn and don't like how there are wet spots and still got a lot of frosting and the CT/HT just wasn't that great in my opinion. I was able to up the FO % in the Advanced but this Excel isn't liking it :P

So back to the drawing board I go... 1oz/1lb.

As far as coloring.. I've been on the fence about color in the soy wax. I've noticed discoloration or change in color where the wax pool cools down. I know its just chemistry change and heat but I'm just not digging it.. To color? or not to Color? that is the Question :P

Any opinions or suggestions on color?

  10. Okay so I've been doing some test pouring with the New Ecosoya CB Xcel and checking how much FO I can use before it bleeds. Manufacturer's website says you can use max 12% but that's way too much FO to use for this wax. So I went down to 10% and still got some bleeding.

All the other sites that sell this wax suggest no more that 9% FO..

I think I'm just going to stick with the basic 1oz per 1lb..

Anyone having any issues or suggestions?
