  1. When I made some a few months back, it wasn't real hard(though could have been my recipe) wasnt really spongey though. It did get harder the longer I had it on the rack, though it also developed DOS.. my first experience with DOS.

It was really easy to make, colored really well, scent was difficult for me, seemed for me I had to use way too much for it to come thru.

It did float, was spongey lookin, with all the little air holes, though that could have just been me as well, lol.

Will I ever do it again... nope... not with the DOS.

  2. Look for coconut at a Super Walmart.. its by LuAnne I think, small 2 or 3 lb jar for under $4.00, if I remember right, its in the aisle with all the other oils and lard as well. Or if you have a natural food store close, you can get coconut and palm there, just they are a bit pricey.

You can make a decent soap with grocery oils, dont let that stop you, if you think you cant.

First you will find alot of info(with recipes) on Kathy Miller's website and it is a place where alot of us started, I believe the link is http://millersoap.com .

Make sure you read up about Lye safety.... wear protective gear, including a mask.

  5. Hi Deanna...

    Welcome to my Addiction!!

I dont think it ever really tapers off to a reasonable amt of things own can own.. specially when it comes to scents... one can never have enough scents around now can we?

Then of course, there are molds... and lots of them, we have to have every single mold imaginable.. wicks... of course we NEED these to test with all the different types of candles we are going to make... so we buy pack after pack.. and ohh dont forget containers... sooo many choices there too. Colors, scents, jars.. wicks .. waxes..OHH MY!!

Then of course... there is B&B.. and lord if that list doesnt get as full as the others with this and that and more colors.. and ohh this would smell good in a lotion.. exotic butters and oils...

Then you have of course.... soapmaking.. more molds, colors, even more oils...

    THE LIST GOES ON FOREVER............

Then were the heck are you going to stick all this stuff?????

Under kitchen cabinets, till bottles fall out at you when you reach for the "real" coffee can! In the basement.. I even staff some stuff under my bed so hubby wont find out how much I really have... :embarasse

Then what used to be my kitchen is now a vast array of boxes .. I havent a counter anymore.. its full of scents and dyes.. and whatever I happen to be working on...

Ohhh I could go on forever.... but I'll just have a lil crooked smile and say...

welcome to your new addiction... for now until you have no more space to put stuff... then your looking for a bigger house with another 2 rooms, just for your stuff =)

  6. Thanks Darci for the help!

I did try it... just 2oz cyclo and 2oz soy... no fo.

I didnt like it at all ...BUT, I need to see after a shower.... it sort of made me feel more dry on my arm, and left a slight oily look on my arm. So I'll try it tonight after a shower..lol

  7. stopped the alligator-leg-scales

Then I realllly need this... I have been using my whipped shea, but I think I have a very mild reaction to shea, I get all itchy and get little red spots within about 10 min of using it.

So how would you figure it with a added oil like soy, 6oz cyclo, .5 fragrance.. and what about 5-6 oz soy or grapeseed?

    thanks

  8. to have some mods limit my candle gallery viewing! :grin2:

Looking all the different types of candles there are to make.. I assure you I want to try every single one of them...

But my real question is .. how should a pillar burn, should it burn down the center and have a rather thick shell on the outside? I havent seen this question yet on a search, so forgive me if someone has already asked it. So how big of a outer shell is supposed to be on the outside?

I admit, that I attempted a pillar.. yesterday. I didnt have the 'right' wick.. and am burning 1 with a c65 and one with a htp93. (cant find my assorted bag of random wicks atm).. have read over the various posts of huggin the candle, but not really understanding it, as of yet.. you hug it so it burns more of the side, so it doesnt have the hole in the center.. meaning a bunch of wasted wax, correct?

I went to target and got a pillar.. to burn for comparison.. there's burns right down the center too.. and I thought my flame was a tad high with the c65, but this target one has a even higher flame.. now the htp93 has a small flame.. I know I'll need to do more research on the wick sizing. But so far, I think I'am happy with the c65, between the 2 I've used.

Sorry this is soo long, but it's all the candle gallerys fault! :tiptoe:
