I have never purchased a pail opener and have never had any problems. Is it used to open it when the pail is sealed originally or after you have unsealed it?

I don't use a tray. I use pipettes and fill each one individually. My tops look similar to those depending on the temperature of the lip balm.

I use a plastic miter box from Lowe's and my straight soap cutter. I have to press my hand against the back of the soap log or it will move while I am cutting it.

I currently use the base from The Chemistry Store, but have used WSP as well. They are both good, but WSP is creamier at the start and doesn't need to be whipped. However, TCS is much cheaper and I can add a few things to it to make it smoother and creamier while whipping it.

I have added sugar, but sometimes I forget and I have always used the default water percentage on soap calc. I really like the immediacy of HP! It is great to have it done and able to use quickly. :-)

I use the same recipes for HP and CP! I also use a silicone mold from WSP (the log mold) and it works pretty well. I have also tried using a silicone oval mold, but they are individual molds and the soap doesn't seem to harden enough in the mold before I try to take them out (even after a few days). I have no idea how to fix that, but they always end up mangled, so I have stopped using those. I would think a tray mold would work a little better than the individual molds. If you are just looking at it for your own use and to get the hang of HP, I don't think the mold will be an issue. :-)

I was going to try a swirl of the different pop colors (kind of a tie dye look), but I haven't figured out the scent yet. I would like to try Secret Wonderland by WSP, but I'm not sure if it discolors.

I'm open to any scent ideas! :-)

I still have some left and I remember either Strawberry or Raspberry was not stable in cp soap, but I can't remember which one. Does anyone remember?

There may have been something wrong with the lard or it was old. The lard I have used doesn't have a real smell to it. Good luck with your soap! :-)

I have used lard in place of palm oil and you can get it at the grocery store. Just be sure you aren't labeling it as a vegan soap! :-)

Thanks! The waiting is awful! As for the scent combo - I decided to try it when I opened the bottles for the first time. I smelled the teakwood first, then the fresh picked blackberry and they seemed to blend in my nose. (Can you tell I'm obsessed with fragrances?) Anyway, I tried it on a cotton ball and it was awesome! I had to use more teakwood than blackberry, but the blackberry gave it just a tad bit of sweetness. :-) I'm a big fan of the blackberry and may use it by itself as well. It is a very soft scent and not overpowering like some berry scents.

I tried a new recipe as well as two new fragrances. The purple (which is a mix of two different micas and I have no idea if they will morph or not!) is not scented, but the yellow is the fresh picked blackberry - was very surprised to see it turn bright yellow. It has a lot of vanilla so it will probably turn brown. The white (which is hard to see in these pics) is scented Indonesian Teakwood. There is a small amount of vanilla, so it too may turn.

I wonder what the final colors will be! It won't bother me if they all change, but it is really pretty right now. :-)

I saw this the other day. It took me forever to find it again after seeing this thread. It looks easy, but I have never tried it.

Mine are still in the plastic bags as well, but I agree it is a pain to get them out and possibly a mess to transfer. I love when colorants come in bottles or jars - so much easier!
