  1. Care Bear: the most reaction I have seen is from coconut. They seem to feel just fine with walnuts, almonds and pecans when eaten by mouth. No reaction to almond oil but bad rashes and break outs with anything that has lots of coconut oil. I thought of cocoa butter as alternative but also corn oil too..but i;m not sure how bubbly it would be? They had THE WORST reaction to Dr Bronner's liquid castile baby/unscented soap, rashes everywhere. But they were fine with Calif. Baby and Welda Baby care wash...go figure they love the expensive surfactant stuffs.

Yes I have considered olive oil/castile soap only also but I dont have days and days and days to sit around with a stick blender mixing it. I have two kids under 3 so I need something I can do over a weekend. Can it be done? Should i use the hot/oven process method to make 100% olive oil castile liquid/soild soap?

WendyByTheBay: I don't have anything against lard, but I defiantly don't want to use tallow. A veggie recipe would be preferred but at this point I am willing to try anything to get us away from the commercial stuff. Please go ahead and pm me the recipe.

Thanks so much for your help!

  2. So my kids are showing BAD allergies to soap made from nut oils and I have been buying California baby super sensitive liquid soap to compensate but its getting REALLY expensive. I"d like to make my own liquid/bar soap but I can't seem to find hard oils that are not sourced from seeds/nuts that will help my soap foam well. I dont mind doing a castile type blend but all I have found sutible is : rice brain oil, olive oil and jojoba oil. If i'm missing an oil could you let me know? And if anyone has a recipe/formulation I could use I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks so much,

  3. Maggie,

Thanks so much for getting back to me on this. Unfortunately that's what I thought..ugh. So I am thinking of using peach tea? Letting it steep in some melted butters or adding it crushed up to the soap as an additional exfoliating ingredient as well as powdered milk to make a 'peaches and cream' kind of thing.. What do you think?

I have added peppermint tea to my soaps and blended peppermint and speriment EO's and it was a hit. Also with chamomile as well. :cheesy2:

    Meridith,

Thanks for the idea. I dont know if that will work with mp but I will certianly try that when I have a chance to do some soap in cp. I just need DH to take the kiddos out of the house so I can work with some lye. Thanks so much for your help though! I will have lots and lots of questions once I finally get around to messin w/ some lye. :yay::yay:

  4. Thanks guys!

Yup Peaks replied pretty quickly and gave me the same response as dolphin. It was the cold weather that made the containers crack and they also offered a refund. :yay::yay:

I couldn't be more thrilled! Hehe! IT looks like I will be ordering the shave soap and a starter kit for soy candles from them soon! YAY I'm so excited!

  5. Grand...this does not give me lots of hope that this was a accident. ugh. I ordered 10lbs of castile and goats milk plus two pounds of cocoa butter.

I also contactd them tonight. I hope there is something we can work out. I really like their prices! And my husband wants to start making candles too!

Let me know how the shave soap works out for you. That's the next item I wanted to try.

Thanks for the tip about the ziplock bags. I put mine in ziplocks tonight hopefully it will make it a little harder for the kids to get into it.

    Thanks!

  6. I was looking up some recipes for making liquid castile soap using castile soap bars. I was wondering if it could be made with melt and pour soap since I have tons of it. And if so what would the ratio be?

And could I add extra aloe vera to make it more moisturizing and thicken the texture? And how about castor oil? I know a lot of you have said castor oil makes mp soap base more foamy/bubbly.

    Thanks so much...

  7. So I ordered 10lbs each of melt and pour soap from peaks. It arrived today in broken plastic containers. All the ones on the bottom are shattered plastic. I know they do not accept returns on mp soap and all but I have small children and I am afraid of them getting into it even if I put it up high and away my 2.5 yr old son always gets into stuff. Plus as we know once mp is exposed to air it can lose volume. So i am at a loss as what to do. I do have some empty containers I can put it in but not enough to replace the 7 containers that broke.

I have not contacted peaks and I am not sure what to do.

    Any advise welcomed.

    THanks,

    Shila
