  1. I have a lady come in to my store a few years back, hand me a tablet of paper and a pen and ask me to write down my wax name and wicks I use. She said she googled candle making but too much confusing info came up. I politely explained how much time and money I invested in developing my candle formula and she would need to do the same. She stood there and stared at me for what seemed like forever. Finally my husband gave her back her pen and paper and told her to have a nice day.

  2. OK, I need some help please. I did a search but only found info on putting your items on consignment.

We are looking into renting a storefront and hopefully grow our candle business. The store is bigger (and a bit more expensive) then we need so we were thinking of having some homemade crafts in there to compliment our homemade goodies. I already have some local crafters in mind that I plan on approaching. We really don't want to buy a bunch of stuff outright since we aren’t sure what will sell and would rather put the money we have saved up into displays, signage, etc.

    So now for the questions:

    - Is there somewhere I can find guidelines on calculating a fair monthly cost for each consignment "space"

    - Can I write the agreement myself or do I need to ask my lawyer to do it?

    - Is it reasonable to add a fee on credit card sales?

    - Is it better to do the flat monthly fee and each person keeps their sale $$ OR make it a % of sales?

    - How does liability insurance come into play here...does each consignee carry their own or do I need to cover all the items?

    - Anything I need to be cautious of?

I have done consignment on the other side (meaning I put items on consignment) but never this end...so I'm clueless. Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated!

  3. I get emails like that too. I used to respond politely as you did. However, I had this one whack job chew me out up one side and down the other because I would not tell her the exact wicks I used in my jars. She said how dare I treat it like it was a big secret. Well obviously it was if she didn’t know what I use!

My favorite inquiries are the ones that end the request with "and I don't live near you so we would not be competing". WTH, I have a website....EVERYWHERE is in my competing area.

  4. OK, call me insane but we have 245 in our regular line available in a crap load of products. Then we have seasonal ones that we rotate based on the time of year. We really have gotten too big (in respect to our fragrance choices) but every time we cut one someone comes looking for it. Guess we are just suckers for punishment :laugh2:

  5. We have a whack job that opened up shop right near us. Same type of packaging, label design...the whole 9 yards. What really is creepy is that the husband shaved his head and facial hair just like my husband. Customers thought we owned both places till we started setting people straight. Fortunately they don't test their products so we get a lot of their "customers" cause their stuff is crap.

My hubby has since let his hair grow back in and shaved his mustache & goatee (sp?) off.

  6. Hands down...Designer 218. I was with WAHMShoppes for 5 yers and the customer service STINKS. You don't get replies to trouble tickets cause as Tony constantly stated "he was a one man operation". Well since I switched to Mandi's service last year I have been 100%+ satisfied with my service. I have never waited more than 4 hours (at the most) for a response to a question. IMO, spending a little bit more is worth it....you get what you pay for.

    Good luck!
