  1. In consideration of managing a website, I have a question on the S/H charges. When a customer orders from my site, is there a way to give them the price for S/H automatically? I've looked everywhere and cannot find any information on how this is done, yet I know it is. Does anyone know of a website where I can get more information on this subject? TIA

  2. Recently I attended 2 craft fairs (2 weeks apart from each other, 1 in Madison and 1 in Milwaukee, WI) and while there found a man who sells a variety of shaped candles (castles, dragons, moons, stuff like that) for only $5. The candles are all pretty large and very beautiful. I'm wondering how he can get away with selling them for $5? It almost looks as if the candles came in their shape and he just dipped them in the color they became. Could it be that all he has to pay for is the color to dip them in? Has anybody ever seen anything like what I'm talking about?

  3. Soy candles may be popular, but take a look at what you find in shops. Paraffin candles far out number soy. Perhaps this lady was referring to her own personal preference.

Does she have any other candles in her shop? If so, she may be speaking about what sells well in her shop. Or, maybe she's been to some of the candlemaking forums where some people are militant about soy candles and that's where she's getting her ideas. I think it could certainly benefit you to get a little more information out of her regarding her statment.

At the moment, there are a couple of b&b crafters there that sell candles too, though not much of a selection. She told us of a lady who had sold her gel candles there for a year and, when the store relocated, pulled her products out because all that had been selling was soy. She didn't come across as the type of person to view candle forums - she was just a lonely old lady that worked there. The woman didn't clarify if she was referrring to just her store, or everywhere in that area. Thanks

  4. I am looking into selling my gel candles at consignment shops, so I stopped at a couple of them today. I was told that people are more into the soy-type candles than any other. Is this true, or was the woman trying to steer me away? What do you think - should I give it a go anyway?

    TIA,

  5. I recently tried making a gel candle with previously made pariffin embeds, but when the gel had settled, I noticed that the embed had melted. Can anyone tell me what temperature the gel should be at when I pour so as not to melt the pariffin embeds? Thanks for your help :D

  6. This will be my first winter season selling my candles and I've been looking around for local craft shows. (I live in SE Wisconsin) I've found a couple but I'm not sure if they are good ones to go to.

Can someone who lives around this area give me a hand at finding good craft shows in the area? Around the Milwaukee and/or Madison area would be ideal. TIA

  7. Crazier things have been tried, like invading Iraq.

I think it would probably be better if you went around to little cafes and asked to do consignment with them.

Wax: You live in Chicago? I do too? We have to talk!

Actually, we don't live in Chicago, but that was the closest place we could find a placement service at. We live in SE Wisconsin though & would be interested in meeting you. Kenosha WI is a halfway point between where i am and chicago. If you would like to meet us, PM me with any details. Thanks.

  8. Recently I talked to Advanced Placement Services in Chicago and they got me thinking.....would it be such a bad idea to have someone else place my candles for me? Given the fact that it's multiple guaranteed locations, which I seem to be having a little bit of a hard time with, what do you "business" people think? Naturally, there'll be a fee associated with it, but put that aside. What do you think? TIA
