  1. This product is truly nothing more than a sugar/salt scrub. No different than one any bath and body artisan would carry normally. Speaking as a nail technician, it is not a suitable replacement for regular manicures as it does not stimulate nor encourage nail growth through the removal of pterygium from the nail plate and shaping of the natural nail free edge. I use a scrub during my manicures and they are still 30-45 minutes to complete.

  2. I'm still a rookie too but can someone explain the reason to use emulsifiers in what appears to be a whipped shea butter? There is no water here and the fact that cocoa butter is being used (hard) and shea would hardened the product to begin with. Doesn't this recipe need water? I've never seen a body butter recipe that did not call for water a the major % of the recipe....

  3. There are a few things that I order from WSP and I ALWAYS get my nose busted in the shipping costs with them. I've tried to find other suppliers but for some things I simply cannot. Their customer service is what keeps me going back. Glad you had such great luck with them!:yay:

  4. Not sure what others will experience, but the 5 blocks that I ordered have ZERO labels or ingredients list with them. Priority Mail boxes were lined with plastic (like Saran Wrap) and the soap was poured in the box to fill it. You can tell it was done this way because of the way the plastic is folded and stuck in the soap. I doubt that I'll be ordering from them again. I cut a hunk off the white and set it next to the white I currently use, and it's "ivory" in my mind. Not a bright white at all. That's exactly why I stopped using SFIC as well because the white just wasn't white enough.

Thank you sooooo much for posting! Here is my thought...maybe they are cutting corners a bit for this sale by pouring directly into the flat rate boxes. That bothers me because I'd rather pay for the packaging, its easier to store. But then again, I just ordered 10 #s of Cocoa Butter from CF and I swear thats what they did too. It exactly the way you described in your post. As a matter of fact, I had a hard time getting it out of the box to break it up to freeze it because it was the same size as the inside of the box.

My issue with the ingredients is, what if you have a customer that is sensitive to SLS or wheat protein (which is found in SFIC shaving base) and you don't know it and then that customer has a reaction or gets sick? I think as business owners we have an obligation to those we serve to know exactly what we are selling. When a company goes out of their way it seems to keep these things quiet or a secret, it raises a red flag for me. How can you trust that? Thanks for confirming that I am not REALLY being paranoid....

I think I may just get 40 lbs and see if I like it but I am just a tad bit hesistant about ordering now....

  5. For those who have already purchased the white, goat's milk, shea or cocoa butter bases....can you share if these are in fact SLS free. I called the company and was not given a straight answer. The only thing I was told was that it was made with natural ingredients when asked if the product was ALL natural:confused: . I know that PrairieAnnie posted the ingredients but I'd like to know what you all are seeing on the packaging. This could very well be a great base, but, I do not like the fact that the ingredients are so top secret....that bothers me, kwim? Or, am I just being paranoid?

  6. I got this in a bunch of fo samples and I absolutely love it....one problem....its not bath and body safe. I have about 10 different coconut blends but this on is really the one I like the most.

For those of you who have/have tried this fo, do you know of another supplier who carries a scent similar to this one by AHRE? TIA

  7. Although the background color is pretty, I think its just too dark if you want to use that dark color for your font. You'll either have to lighten your print or change the color of your background. I also agree that the script is a little hard to read and I love script fonts. Otherwise, the rest of your site is really nice.:yay:

  8. I get Rooto 100% Lye at TruValue Hardware stores and Menards. It's always on the shelves. This is in Minnesota, so your findings may vary.

I have also ordered from aaa-chemicals. Good luck!

There is another thread about this that was post like in October or so. In that thread, I remember someone saying Rooto was not good to soap with....well the reviews were kind of a mixed bag but mostly not good. Is there a trick to using Rooto that you don't have to use if you use Roebic? Just curious because I can get Rooto locally at Ace.

  9. I, at one time, would buy YC because really it was either them or White Barn or Illuminations (before YC took them over). Before I found this site, I had no idea that chandling was so popular. Sometimes, I can remember spending $100's at a time in YC because I love scented candles just that much....I landed a seasonal postion with them because the store manager saw me in there all the time.

Now that I have learned so much from you all, it is going to be hard to find new scents to fall in love with. But after seeing first hand what a handmade candle is like, I cannot go back. I had no idea the things that YC did to candles, especially the top scenting thing....which is very true by the way.

I will give them credit for a few things. They do make contributions to charity and offer their product for things like auctions, etc. They do pay about $2-3 above minimum wage here. And the employee discount is really, really nice as well. But even with all the overhead and some of the other points that others have made in their defense, I just think its awful to deceive the public. Everything just about that I have read about them on this board, I discovered for myself in my candles.

The point here is, how do you move on to find new scents and a new chandler to fall in love with? I have been on many of the websites here, nobody sells the scents that I love but I refuse to buy anymore from YC because I feel so cheated. Burning candles is therapuetic for me. As a burn survivor, I have learned a new found respect for fire. It is really beautiful when its properly enjoyed....

If someone could help me find a chandler that sells the following scents, or something very similar as I am open to suggestions....I would be forever greatful. It will be a year next month since my last YC purchase and I am experiencing withdrawls....

These of course are all YC types...

Tahitian Tiare Flower - my absolute favorite

Autumn Wreath - my favorite winter time scent

    Vanilla Sandalwood

Shiraz or Vineyard - my kitchen is tuscan themed

    Fresh Peach

  10. i think with smaller curls it will look better more like swirly frosting

I was just reading this post thinking like who is this saying they'd look better if the curls were smaller....kinda pissed me off a little bit too!:laugh2: Then I looked at the name and its you! LEAVE YOUR WORK ALONE DARNIT....they look great!:P

  11. Thought I'd ask first lol! I've only had one mica change smell on me, but it disappears after cure. However this is CP we're talking about. I imagine the lye helps kill the smell.

You might contact Alan and Nachelle and see what they recommend. This isn't the sparkly colored ones is it?

Nope these are flat micas, no sparkles here. I'll call them and see what they recommend otherwise, its off to my nail table with these colorants. I am sure they will behave in clear acrylic because they don't seem to like my soap or butter! Thanks for your help Scented!

  12. So are you saying that without these colors in your applications that they smell fine?

Oh yes ma'am! My butter was smelling fabulous before the addition of the color. I thought maybe it was because I added the fo first on that one....

...now with the Vera Wang this morning, I added the color first and then the fo and it was really light, with a 3% fo load at that! I made this scent in another soap using clear glycerin using liquid drops and it smells like its supposed to with a 2% fo load.

These oils did not come from the same supplier either. The Princess was from SC and the Vera Wang was from SOS.

I cannot figure this out but its both of my micas from Peaks, I have both pink and purple and they both act crazy in application and I do not know why!

  13. I have purple mica from Peaks. Everytime I use it, to me, it seems it changes the scent of my product. When I used it in body butter, it turned my Princess and it smelled somewhat eggy. I used it in mp soap and it turned my Vera Wang soft, like you could barely smell it.

So my question is....are all micas like this? After looking at the soaps posted in the gallery, I was thinking of buying some mica from BCN and I also considered Brambleberry. I have had better luck with the liquid colorants from Peaks but I want to be able to do bolder colors without compromising the smell of my products, kwim? Any help here would be greatly appreciated. TIA

ETA: Mods, I am sorry this was posted here. I really meant to start this thread in the other b&b area. If you don't mind, could we please move this? My apologies....
