  1. Contrary to many third parties that do not have actual factual information about the business contract that Denise & I had, I did NOT sell my company to Denise. I sold her ONLY the Southern Soapers trademark so that she could rebrand her Full Moon Herbs products under the Southern Soapers brand. She LICENCED my fragrance codes. She did NOT buy them. My LLC has always retained ownership of that information. Denise paid a licensing fee to be the ONLY other supplier other than myself to order and distribute these fragrances. I did not have a non compete in the contract. Our contract also only gave Denise usage of the copyrighted materials I developed on the Southern Soapers forums and domains.

  4. Ok, I've been to both websites and love them both. I was struggling with the decision as to which one to pick. I thought it out and came to the conclusion that with BB, I could save money due to the fact that most fragrances come in 5lbs at a good savings. I wish SS had the 5lb available.

I had picked out 24 samples from SS to try, but I think I will narrow it down to 10 of the earthy & woody scents. It will be hard, but with the economy the way it is every dollar counts:rolleyes2

What are your thoughts on this?

Southern Soapers DOES offer a 5% discount on 5 lbs of the same FO, 10% discount off 10 lbs of the same FO, and a 25% discount off the 25 lb drum of the same FO. You simply put the number of pounds you are ordering and request the Volume Discount. The info is located on the FAQ page also, :)

JUst don't forget to put a note that you are requesting VOLUME discount.

  5. No, that is not quite right... you need to use a factor to determine just the amount of OILS needed to build your soap formula for this size of cylinder mold. For a 3" wide tube that is 15 inches long you will do this:

    [(1.5 x 1.5) x 3.14] x 15 = 105.98

radius squared x pi x length of tube

then do this final calculation to compensate for you only needing the OILS calculation, not the ENTIRE volume of finished soap:

    105.98 x the factor of .38 = 40.27 oz of base oils

the full math formula to determine the amount of oils for a cylinder is:

    [(1.5 x 1.5) x 3.14] x 15 = 105.98 x .38 = 40.27

radius squared x pi x length of tube factor oils needed

Now calculate your lye and water.

If you want a faster way, and have Excel on your computer, download the Chris Mathes SoapSheet3.1 .. it it at the TOP of my website as a download link: http://www.southernsoapers.com called SOAPSHEET3.1

    http://www.southernsoapers.com/tools/SoapSheet.31.xls

Build your soap recipe normally, then CLICK ON THE AUTOSCALED tab at the bottom. That worksheet lets you toggled between Rectangular molds and CYLINDER MOLDS! And it does ALL the Math For YOU, grin!

Here is a link to a screen shot of my using the Cylinder function for a soap formula:

  6. This will be the very first gathering that I have ever attended. I will be giving a demo/presentation on Big Batch Soapmaking also. I will only be attending two gatherings this year... the other one will be the Texas Soapmakers Association gathering in Austin, TX later in July. I will be giving a Big Batch Soapmaking presentation there also!

Most of all, I am really excited to put faces to the many customers and names I have communicated with over the years!

  7. Yes, they turn a blackish color. I thought this would be perfect for my Blackberry Sage soap.. So I added some with some violet Ultramarine. Soap turned out fantastic looking. But my hairy chested hubby started complaining to me that he does not appreciate having to pick/rinse cranberry seeds out of all his chest & pubic hair!!

So, I only use cranberry seeds for external visual appeal nowdays. Hubby is happy now too, lol!

  8. so if I had a 3" tube 15" long I would need 135oz. of oils?

No, that is not quite right... you need to use a factor to determine just the amount of OILS needed to build your soap formula for this size of cylinder mold. For a 3" wide tube that is 15 inches long you will do this:
