  1. well i just did some CP and was so excited bc it smelled so good and looked beautiful when i poured in the mold... 20 minutes later i had to peek, and it cracked right down the middle and the insides are oozing out. :cry2: i did everthing the same way i've been doing. what happened or what did i do wrong?

    2 lb. batch

    40% lard

    20% OO

    20% CO

    20% safflower oil

1 1/2 oz. hawaiin dream FO (BCN) smells great!!!

    still don't have any dye

and also how and when do i go about rebatching?

  2. thanks for the tip on coconut oil!

yes, i keep it covered with a piece of freezer paper and a towel and blanket over that. whatever it is doesn't really bother me right now, i'm just happy i can make soap :grin2: but i would like to know how to prevent it. it covers the entire top surface and looks like bubbly foam to me

  3. I am having so much fun with this! this is what i did...

    lard- 30%

    coconut 76 deg.- 30%

    olive oil- 20%

    safflower oil- 20%

    no dye, scented sandalwood

is this a decent recipe? i'm just kinda making recipes up with the soap calc, using stuff i can get at the grocery store. i need to research more about the chemistry of all this...

and also, when it starts to gel it looks like crap on top, then when it's done it has what looks like foam or bubbles on top... is this ash?

  4. i've posted in the candle pages but not the soap, so first of all Hello Everyone! anyways, thanks to reading lots of your threads i made my first CP soap! it's not the prettiest in the world, but its soap! :grin2: but i do have a question... I unmolded the soap yesterday and wanted to test it out a little, so i washed my hands a bit and didn't feel a burn or anything. isnt it supposed to have a zap (i dont think i really know what 'zap' means)... did i not use the right amount of lye? it lathers just like soap and everything and i used the measurements of the soapcalc. i know it has to cure for 4-6 weeks, i guess i just don't know what new soap is supposed to feel like. So if someone could explain this zap to me i would greatly appreciate it :smiley2:

  5. hey everyone, ok i'm making chunk pillars and when i pull em out of the mold i notice they have these tiny lines all the way around the outer surface... it kinda looks like little tiny woodgrain. what is this?

i'm using 4625, pouring around 180, aluminum mold

so does anyone know what could be causing this? i'm wanting a smooth, shiny surface, thanks for any help :D

  6. hmmm... that's not good. I don't know anything about those molds, i've only used metal. But you mentioned you don't have a heat gun, maybe you could put them in the oven on the lowest setting for a few minutes and they might slide out?? i'm not really sure, it might ruin your candles but atleast you could get them out and remelt. and like i said, i don't know about those molds but maybe you could use a little cooking spray on the insides instead of mold release. hope this helps :)

  7. i don't know about for lotion, but i just made some candles with cajun candle's buttercream crunch and it stinks really bad!! maybe someone will like it but i sure don't. :tongue2: guess that's why i should buy samples before i get the big bottles :o

  8. i just tried again, and this time i mixed everything in the presto. it worked out so much better! Oh yeah, what i'm doing is chunk pillars, honeysuckly FO. Being my first couple of candles, they are so pretty to me! I don't have a digital camera or i'd post a pic. thanks for everyone's help :grin2:

  9. hello everyone, i'm new to candle making and this message board (although i have been reading it for a while now.) and i have a question... I want to only keep unscented, undyed wax in my presto pot, and mix all fo's and dyes in when i transfer it to a pour pitcher. Does this way work out for anyone? I think i'm having some issues with my FO not mixing in well, it seems like it's sticking to the pitcher (which is glass). My FO's are from cajun candle, and i'm pouring wax into the pitcher at about 190. Anyone have and suggestions on what maybe i'm doing wrong or a better way to do this? :grin2: these smilies are so cute, just thought i'd put one in here
