  1. Jo Malone Grapefruit from Just Scent was NOT even close to the original.  When I emailed owner, she responded in the most horrific way.  I actually want to post our communications here, as a buyer beware.  Is that allowed and which section would I post that in?

  2. I try to carry no more than 4 or 5 scents in each category (fruit, floral, fresh, flirty, foody) and then about 6-7 for fall, Christmas (evergreen, cranberry, pumpkin, etc.).   I had found that when I had more than that, it was too much for customers and, I believe, a deterrent to sales.  If someone can't find a scent that they like in the midst of 20-25 scents, I don't think that they really want to purchase.  Although rare, there is the occasional person who really just enjoys hemming and hawing, complaining and so on.  Adding 4 or 5 more scents will never satisfy this type of person but it may overwhelm a genuine customer so I don't think it's worth the risk to the business.

  3. I have them separated by scent type (floral, fruit, fresh, flirty, foods).  Each Rubbermaid box holds 8 bottles - this reminds me not to carry more than 8 scents in the same category.  I really try to limit to 5-6 in the same category.

They are beautiful! Do you find that they sell, or are you not selling them? I had a lady

in our store with carved candles and only 1 sold in 4 months so curious if it is our area or what?

  5. Please let me know if you tried, liked/disliked any of the following oil. Also, if it reminded you of any other suppliers scent (like a twin or near twin) that would be great info, too.

Woodland Breeze - is this anything like Mystic Woods (Flickers)?? or is it a christmas tree type?

    Long Wyck Apple Crisp?

    Long Wyck Banana Nut Bread??

    Long wyck Ocean Mist?

    Long Wyck Pumpkin Pie?

KY Cherry Chip Cake - what does this smell like? Cherry or is it something akin to CS Wildberry Mousse??

Thanks in advance for any info, it is greatly appreciated.

  6. Last year sales were down from the year before. This year they are down from last year. I imagine it's the economy. People don't have confidence and/or extra money for candles, etc. Repeat customers are great but it's been hard building the biz. Also, people are less concerned with gift giving as the economy struggles. It's hard staying optimistic. I feel for you. Eve

  7. Would appreciate any info regarding Bert's. Will she be restocking (ie - Aspen Forrest, Tranquil Sleep, etc). I read a bit on her website, is she foregoing reordering due to her prices going up. I tried to do a search, but don't find this info. I thought I read something months (a year?) back but could not find it. thanks in advance,

  8. I did have a 1oz sample from CS and use it with cyclo. Not sure if it's a close dupe b/c I smelled it for the first time the other day. I was checking a lady out and had to ask her what she was wearing she smelled so good. So that's why I was asking here for a dupe of it. I like the one so far from CS but like I said I don't know if it was is a close dupe or not. Can't wait till my order comes from BCN so I have more to make some mp soap & lotion with it!! Thanks all!!

Not sure CS Angel was body safe

  9. I did some testing of them a couple of years ago. They were hit or miss. But, since they were cheap, and their dupes were good, I decided to use them for tarts this past holiday season. For the first time since I started selling, I got complaints (three). People said that after the first burn, the tarts smelled like crayons. To me, this means that all of the oil burned off after four hour burn time (one tealight). I make my tarts with 10% fragrance load, so I imagine that the oils are very weak or diluted. I won't ever use them again. Also, I usually get a nice return from first time tart buyers but this Jan/Feb, I only got calls from a few people. I'm hoping it's the economy, but I fear it is because I used Midwest oils in quite a few of my tart sets - worst mistake I've made with my business since I started.

  10. If you want to try something really fun, keep a scent name for a group of candles, but pour identical candles and give them a different name. See how long it takes for someone to come along and hate one but love the other.

So true. This blew me away when I saw it. Also, changing the color can cause a scent to sell. I guess that's why big companies (ie Yank) are constantly recycling scents with different names and/or colors.

  11. I've always warmed the shower gel before adding fo and color. I normally make 2 oz bottles, 2 dozen at a clip, so approx 48 oz of gel, 6-10 drops of color, and appx 1.7 oz fo (3.5 % fo). Would I be able to do this large quantity w/o the heating. Anyone who has, I'd love to hear your opinion. thanks in advance,

  12. I have a couple of FO's that I can only find at Wellington so I am ordering some samples. Are there any "must haves" that I should also order?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Did you ever order from them? I ask because your post is a recent one (2010) and the negative posts are from a few years back.

Did you find same old, same old or were they new and improved?

    would love to know,

    thanks,

    Eve
