  1. Hi,

I really want to get started making hair products. Where do I start. Do I need to have them approved thru the FDA I live in Texas? Also Do you start with a base. I want natural products without a lot of harmful items in them? Do I need premission to have them approved so that no one can take me to court if they break out? I guess I really need to know who do you do this the right way and legally. I believe that I can really could be a good asset to others with this my hair fell out terribly and I have created a few things at home that are amazing but I don't know where to start to get this to the public in the right way any help would be appreciated. Also being that I am new here where do you go to find great bases because and products to mix with my hair products? And if you do organics or naturals do you need persatives for the products so that they can have a long shelf life. Thanks If any one has done this please let me know.

  3. :wink2: Hi I am just trying to get started making soy candles. Alll of the candle lingo has me confused what are the differences with the different waxes. I want to start with a easy to use wax that has a good sent throw hot and cold. I have looked on a few different websites and am confused on what to use . I see some on the board use EZ Soy. I do see some kits that include the NatureWax C-1 Container Soy Wax or Cargill Naturewax C-3 wax what is the best to use and what is the difference between the waxes. Cargill, Naturewax, Ez Soy and Millinmun wax used by Moon Drops company. I really don't want to waste money buying a beginner kit that is not worth it any help would be appreciated.

  4. Hi how is it going in San Antonio. My hubby is in the military and I am not far from San Antonio. I am thinking about making candles and want to use soy. Do you have any advice. I even thought of signing under a company I am trying to see what is my best option.

Okay, so I've been pouring 100% soy (EZ Soy) for just over 6 months, and we just moved to TX (San Antonio area) from the Phoenix area. I poured my first batch of candles here yesterday, and I was HORRIFIED this morning to see the results.

First, HUGE wet spots. TONS of frosting, and the tops look like a volcano erupted in it. I've seen people complain about this, but I've never had anything remotely like it in my own candles. What I need is someone who can help me try to figure out which of the factors that have changed is the one that is affecting my candles most (or if they all are!)

First, in Phx, I poured in my house. We kept it at around 80-85 during the day, no humidity. Now, I'm pouring in my office, detached from the house, but with a window unit. However, we don't keep the unit turned on at night, or all day for that matter, so the temp was probably somewhere around 90-95 in there with whatever the humidity is lately.

Next, I poured at about the same temp as usual, between 100-103ish (closer to 100 last night), but the wax was nowhere near as slushy as usual at that temp. It was thickening, and it had a pretty good film on the top, but it wasn't at that grainy-looking stage that I usually aim for.

So, should I go back to pouring in the house? And wait until it's slushy, even if it's cooler than usual? Or are there more factors that I'm missing out on? Any ideas?

  5. Hi,

I am very interested in making candles. I would like to try the soy candles. Can anyone recommend the best type of soy and how to get started with making candles and possibley going into busiiness selling them. I would like a line of soaps and candles. Me and my daughters would do this together as a family project any help would be appreciated. Also do anyone know is there laws within the state on selling things like candles. For example do yu need insurance to do this within your home or special permission.
