Oh, I could tell you TONS of stories! I just love craft shows :: snickers ::
I will say, that my biggest pet peeve, and easiest/fastest way to get on my bad side is taking up some of *my* booth space. I don't care if it's an inch, a foot, or a mm...it's mine! That and the people not leaving themselves an "out". Meaning, they set up their whole booth but don't have anyway of getting in and out of their booth, so they think they can just walk in and out of my booth to get to theirs. That pisses me off to no end!

I make my own. During the slow months I'll make up a bunch so I have them for my busy season.
Ditto! It's too much of a hassle to make em during the busy season, so I do em all during the off season.
-
I use a combo of the aluminum pouring pots and glass measuring cups.

We use a different approach to this and only use non polar fragrance for all of our wax products that will contain gel of any proportion in the finished product. (Whether the gel is scented or not). When burning, all components combine in the melt pool and there could be a safety concern in my opinion.
Wendy
Ditto. I wouldn't use gel if you are not using non-polar fragrances. Like Wendy stated, when burning, everything gets combined in the melt pool. Not good.

I had my mom make me mine

Here's the thing: When the lady CALLED (I still can't believe she had the guts to actually CALL me at home to ask), I told her how many years I've been doing this, how much money I have invested (not an amount, just a lot haha), time, testing...etc. And she STILL wanted to know my process and how to go about doing it. She was very persistent!
This was the most persistent person I have ever dealt with. Usually others will ask, and when I give em my schpeel, they are like "Wow..ok...nevermind."
Ugh..just so frustrating!
-
How do you politely tell them that it's impolite to ask and to bugger off?
I got a phone call today from a customer that was so "intrigued and fascinated" with my products and wanted to know my process and how to go about making them. I mean..she wanted to know what wax I use, what scents, how I go about making my dipped animals...etc...EVERYTHING!
She THEN tells me that she used to make crafts and did craft shows but she didn't make anything that really made her jump up and down, but when she saw my stuff Saturday, she got really excited.
When you get asked this, what do you say?

I give them the copy that says customer copy.
That would be handy if my slips said "customer copy"..but hence they do not.
-
Bottom slip you want to keep the copy they actually sign not the carbon copy
K..That's what I was thinking, but wanted to make sure! haha
Thanks Vicky!
-
For those that take credit cards and use the knucklebuster method...umm...which copy do you give your customers? The top slip or the bottom slip? :tiptoe:
Thanks!

It depends on how big/wide your pilsner glasses are, especially towards the bottom. For mine, I use 36-24-24Z. You could also try 44-24-18Z.

I peel out the left over gel and it usually all comes out in 1 peel. If there is any left over, I'll soak it in water and rubbing alcohol and wash/scrub it.

I pay $0 My hubby is an accountant so I get his services for free. haha I can ask him when he gets home tho, what the "going rate" is for that.

Figurine candles. Toss up between tigers, cats, dolphins, and fish. Then pies are second.
-
Were the candy cane embeds you used waxed ones or something else? Cuz if they were wax embeds, the candle could have discolored from them. If that's the case, use UV inhibitor in your candle and that should help.
-
I use the stretchy white bead string from Walmart. 5 yards for $.87. I go with the mid-thickness one.
-
I don't mind the wax dipped TP, to each their own, I guess. What I do mind is how some people decorate them. What's up with putting, basically a flower bush, on em? Are those dipped too? Cuz I would think when you add all the "extra stuff" it would start to cover up the scent and not produce a strong enuf whiff. Just my opinion.
-
Oh my..I use A LOT of their fragrances.
Turquoise Seas
Red Hot Cinnamon
Spiced Cranberry
Apple Jack
Black Raspberry Vanilla
MacIntosh Apple
Autumn Embers
Pink Sugar
Rainshower
Twigs And Berries
Those are my fave! haha

Well, I do gel candles, so all of mine go in a box when sold.
You might want to try a 4x4x4. I order mine from www.nashvillewraps.com
-
A good way to dust off gel candles is to dip a piece of paper towel in mineral oil and then you can wipe it off. I would suggest doing that instead of water.
-
And that is one of the main reasons I don't use my debit card to purchase anything on-line or over the phone. I don't want them messin up my checkbook! haha Also, I've had my cc number stolen and used on-line. I would rather have that happen to a cc than my debit card.
Hopefully you'll get it all straightened out.

I don't scent the gel for my forever candles. I only scent the tealight that actually burns. That way my customers can switch out the scents whenever they want.
-
Technically you can't and shouldn't make your own gel wax. Penreco has a patent on it.

Here is another one too:
couple questions...

I don't use crimps because I have converted all of my gel candles to forever candles. Just a tealight burns. My customers prefer them this way so they are not "wasting" the candle and they can burn it without ruining the "scene".
