  1. Hey Tal

Thanks for the reply. I have 2 questions. Can a lab make them smells stronger and can they make them last longer? My gut tells me yes for a price. there is probally min order that i cant afford :( I would be willing to pay double or triple for an ounce of that kind of oil.

I love your idea about a rechargeable air freshener but if I can make one that lasts a month the is better than anything on the market for the price.:)

We just figured out how to make photographic labels on our product. that opens a huge window for custom work

    Deed you input please

  2. Hi All

It was in the Fall when I was last on :( I think I finally found out why I cant make a good smelling candle. The area i live has the 3rd worse air pollution in the US. And we are in the top 10% on the pollen count. SOO not many people around here do not have a normal rang of smell.

When we got the mac apple we spillled some of the oil. Long story short the rag got thrown in the back seat of my truck. for us the idea was born. Car air freshiners.

Now im looking for the strong sents and have been thinking about labs to make stronger oil so this post has me very intrested in what you find out.

thanks for starting this thread it made my dat

    You rock Tal

  3. Hi All

Is there such a place ? I am getting closer to get a candle correct I think but I need to try different wicks. Seems I can only find one or two that I want to try without going to a different store.

Using 21/2 x 2 streight sided jars and joy wax. The best wick co far is a cd 2. I used Cranberry woods from candle science No hot or cold throw after a month of curing. It didnt have much smell otb or when heating.

We will be trying macintosh apple next. It smell awsome out of the bottle and in a candle warmer. We plan to pour some samples today. I think I have pretty good temp control with an induction hot plate that says it is accurate to 2 %. Also got a infared temp gun yesterday. Cant wait to compair it a candy warmer.

I do understand now after reading more that wick/oil combo might not work together. So time for some different series wicks.

    Thanks in advance

    Bless

  4. Hi All

Thought i would give an update. We still havent made another batch yet but we are getting closer. With a full burn with a cd 2 wick I still think it is to much. would love ideas of what to try next.

Been doing a lot of reading here and a reply from Tall Tal about trying fo with a candle warmer. That has opened up a new world for us :) First test was macintosh apple from CS. I could smell apple in my shop for almost 5 days. If we cant get some hot throw with that then i think we have a bad wick issue.

  5. Hey All

We desided to start over :)

Have to get past my big mistake about having a complete melt pool in 2 hours. I know now how bad that is if you want a good smelling candle. I came to that at the end of last winter. I use jars that are 21/2 x 2 "  and poured a few with cd 2 wicks. Lit one a few days ago and it is so much better on the burn being full melt pool didnt happen until 3/4 down the jar.yea step in the right direction

will be ordering some ECO wicks and some c3 wax

is problend 600 a house wax ? was thinking some of that..

We are going to make come in the morning with above in mind.

I will let my daughter on line to this forum tomorrow so she can start giving feed back.

  6. Hi All

57 degrees here this morning and giving me the itch to start making candles again. With all the problems I have been reading about the quality of wax that is out there I dont know where to start. I had been using joy wax from natures garden but the last i got was really bad like no hot throw :( and I have about 40 lbs left.

This will be the 4th winter that my daughter and I make candles that is if you all can help us find a new wax of any kind that has a good hot throw.

I believe that some of you  are making killer candles  and ask that you give me a link or pm where I can buy one that you made.

One of the reasons I am posting this is the other day I was cleaning out my old office and found a old candle at least 10 years old and when i opened it it was wow what a cold throw then 15 min after lighting i put it out it was that strong. Yes small area 8ft by 8 ft but my new office and test are area 8x10 and in there it is also awsome.

I am begging for help because making candles is one of the few things that we enjoy doing together

    thanks in advance

    Bless

  7. I dont understand.

It sounds counterintuitive, but a smaller wick allows for the pool to melt wider and deeper.  Think of a wick like a straw. A bigger straw draws more fluid through.

the soot in the pics posted above clearly point to too much (or the wrong series) for this candle.
some of the soot could be from too much fragrance.

the neck of that jar will continue to build heat convection at an increasing rate.

did you cure your candle before lighting?

I an using 4 oz smooth sided jelly jars and joy wax the recomended wick is a cd4. Also tried cd5 but I should go down in size. I cant find a cd3 and dont like zink. Any thoughts.

    Thanks

  8. Hi All

How cold is to cold to make candles ? My old shop heater died and it will take another week or 2 to get a new burn pan made. I can only get my shop up to about 40 degrees. Is that warm enough or do i need to wait for my shop heater to be fixed ?

I have new oil,wax and wicks and ready to start testing and dont want to have any problems because of the cold.

    Thanks

    Shawn

  9. Hi All

I wish I would of read this before i order a bag of it. Maybe I will get lucky. Thing is I am about out of wax and thought it was time to try a net wax. I have only used joy wax so far but the 4527 sounded very similar.

On the good side I have some new oil coming and have enough wax to test it also I got a free mini fridge today checking temp range. I hope I can use it for climate control for my oils

    Have a good day

  10. Thanks for the replies.

It has given me motivation to keep trying. I have gotten all my supplies except jars from Natures Garden and I have been using there joy wax. when i said that 99% had no smell that was misleading. Sorry they have smell but very faint and i wouldnt put it on my list of I would try that again. I have had the best luck with there dragons blood. Some orders on that are better than others.

I think next I will try oil from different companies that have been recomended.

In your experiance how many oil do you test before you find one you think will work ?

    thanks

    Shawn

  11. Wow cool.

Thanks for the reply. I am looking for oil made for candles only samples from a lab or a verified reseller. That way I have a better feeling it is not diluted. Please correct me if I am wrong but oil of that type you should be able to smell like it or not.

If I can make premium candles my family will help make a business out of it we have many skills.

I have degrees as electronic engineer and business. Been working maintenace in a food process plant for 24 years that make MRE for the military. My boss said I can get parts out of our "junk yard" if i need them

    Sorry got off track

Got to find the oil first

    Thanks in advance

fi is just a compounder like any other lab. They have millions of “recipes” that can be awesome or meh. See if you can reach a good sales rep that will teach you the ropes

So I couldnt find much on the net about compounders  I hace spent probally 2 hr on there site and learned a lot. I dont qualify to buy from them. For samples the said on a video to buy samples from a resale but dont give a recomendation who to buy from. Is it this way for all companies?

    thanks again

  13. Thanks for the reply TallTayl

  14. Hi All

Been lurking for years. This topic is part of my search. To find high contrate oil. I have spent several years testing and 99 % of the oils have very little scent. I have been very percice in my testing. My question is do you have to have be a business owner to get these kind of oils?

I found in over 30 years of being into lapidary cutting stones and silver smithing that to get good setting that it was true. If it is the same for oil let me know I Will start working on it. i just want to make candles that you can smell at 4 to 5 % ratieo i would pay 5 -6 dollars per ounce for that

    Thanks in advance

  15. Hi All

I cant work in the house bescause the house stove is gas. I have tried a hot plate from wal mart a griddle and my turkey fryer and it dont work for me :( I have a very limited time to play with candles so I need a electric burner that can heat to 200 degrees for 1/2 gallon in less than 15 min.

Any help on this would be cool.
