I love boozy type fragrances, but they always misbehave with my wicks. I use HTPs, and although I rarely have mushrooms when properly wicked, the booze scents will do it unless I cut way way back on the FO.

Maybe that's a factor with what you have going on, with that apple and bourbon fragrance (that sounds awesome, btw).

Sounds like your wick/wax/fragrance combo needs some tweaking, like Candybee suggested. I use HTPs with a similar paraffin wax, and generally have good results. Even with that type of fragrance, if all other burn factors are on point, mushrooming is generally small and more of an aesthetic issue than a performance or safety issue. For me, anyway. 😄

Thanks.  I'm pouring HTP testers tonight.  Also first burn on CD testers tonight.  Fingers crossed.

  2. How do you decide between double wicking and using a larger wick?  Is there a generally accepted guideline on double wicks?  Are there benefits and detriments between single and double wicks?

I'm trying to wick the Large Salsa Jar from CS. (3.5" diameter, 4.5" height) Using IGI 4630 wax and going through the LX wick line at the moment.  Any help/insight is greatly appreciated.

  3. Hi,

I'm just beginning to begin candle making.  I want to make container candles in apothecary jars with flat black metal lids.  I've searched this site, poked around reddit, and scoured every supplier I could find, but no luck.  No problem finding apothecary jars, but flat black metal lids aren't anywhere I've looked.  It vexes me.  Please, could anyone point me in the right direction?  Even a stylistically comparable alternative would ease my vaguely panicky soul. From everything I've read so far, this seems like a great community.  Thank you.
