  1. Designer 218 is great! :cheesy2: I have been using Mandy for about 4 years now. For shipping I charge a flat rate of $5 for orders under $50 and free for orders over $50. I use USPS Priority Regional boxes. They are cheaper for me than the flat rate ones.

Yes, sometimes shipping will run me a little more but not enough for me to do it different. This works well for me and my customers love it. I haven't had any problems with Mals Cart so far.

    Welcome Back 042.gif

  2. I have a little left in an old bottle of JBN's Creme Brulee and Creme Brulee Supreme smells just like it. Throws the same for me also and wicks the same.

The Graham Cracker is the same as GL's Honey Graham Cracker.

Also LOVE the Indonesian Teak!! (same as GL had)

number2of7: Try mixing 1/2 Havana Nights and 1/2 Indonesian Teak. Awesome blend and should help with the burning issue with the Havana Nights. :smiley2:

  3. With this blend I threw a box over the ones I made to slow down the cooling process in the 8 oz. sq. masons. I don't have to do that in the tumblers. With the few scents I tried, LX 16 did the best.

Been using the square masons for a while now with C3 and plain 464 and always cool with a box over them to avoid air pockets. Partly my fault because I pour too high into the neck of the jar but I don't like to have a space between the lid and where the candle starts. If I don't cool them under a box I do get air pockets sometimes and that is a pain so I just use the box the jars came in and cool them under that. Haven't had anymore issues with air pockets in these jars since then. This worked with the 16 oz. square mason jars also.

  4. I use ProPay to process my website orders (I use Mal's Cart) and Square for shows and local sales where I can swipe the card.

With Mal's Cart you can't require the 3 digit code and this is needed to process payments with Square manually (or I just haven't figured out how to do it without it).

Since you can't write down the 3 digit code from someones card to manually process later I use both.

ProPay uses the zip code and doesn't need the 3 digit code so if I'm at a show that I can't get reception I still have my "knuckle buster" for backup. Then I enter it manually into ProPay when I get home.

Never had a problem with ProPay in 4 years or with Square (been using about 8 months).

  5. Haven't used this FO before but just wanted to say that your soap is GREAT!! Love It!

I used it for about 4 years (bought it from a little Vet Shop in NC) before I started soaping myself. I now know it was a LOT easier to buy yours!!! (lol) Your soap is the perfect example of what a truly great bar of handmade soap can be. Your recipe is wonderful!

  6. Hi Steve,

If anyone has the link to the thread or the recipe that Quiet Girl posted, that may work. I made it several times but can't find the formula. I would go dye and fragrance free. It made great soap , gentle to the skin, great lather and was also easy to make.

I am a 1 year Breast Cancer Survivor :yay:

  7. I use KY Tart Wax mixed with 20% 464 and they work great in Scentsy warmers. I work in my vets office and use Scentsy's "Paws" warmer there. I also sell Jackel warmers which has a 14 watt heating pad and my tarts work on that also. I sell clamshells and usually put 1 or 2 cubes in. Great HT in about 10 minutes. I sell tons of clamshell tarts and have 40 fragrances. All strong throwers. Just tried a new one for me, Peaks Brown Sugar and Fig and it is awesome. No problem melting in a Scentsy warmer with a 25 watt bulb.

  8. For a 4" container I go for a 1/4" FMP in about 4 hours but never on the first or second burn....I like a little hang up at first and let it pull down once the flame drops down in the jar.

A 1/2" FMP in 2 or 3 hours is too deep...burning too hot. I only get a 1/2" FMP or a little more when I do a power burn test (6-8 hrs.).

    If you are testing a heavy FO...start w/a CD 22 if single wicking.....otherwise a CD 20

  9. I think the wick curls to the side with the weave going up ^ ... I put my wicks closer together, too.

That is correct....I place mine with the metal tabs just touching and so they curl to the outside. I have only tested a few FO's in the 16 oz. apothecary with 464 and double wicked with CD 5's and they did well. Also singled wicked with a CD 20 which also did well. No color and 1 1/4 oz. FO pp wax. CD wicks do well for me with this wax.

I tested a few with comparable sized HTP wicks and the CD just did better.

  11. bayougirl, thank you!! I am going to make it tomorrow and see if it turns out.

Kitn, I will try it at 50%, I normally put mine in the fridge (I don't gel) so I think I will do the same with the Pine Tar soap.

sherry, I get my Pine Tar (the one with the yellow horse shoe) at the feed store where I get my horses grain.

    Thanks everyone!! :yay:

  12. Hi all,

I'm getting ready to do a batch of pine tar soap. I have a recipe I like and have read that you can just add the pine tar to any basic recipe. Soapcalc says it has no FA value, so it shouldn't make a difference to the lye/water calculations. So, should I do my calculation for a 50 oz (oils) batch and just add 20% pine tar to it and use my regular mold (I usually do 60 oz of oils)? Or should I calculate it into Soapcalc as a 60 oz batch with the pine tar included? Does that make sense? Thanks so much.

    Hi bayougirl,

I have the same question. Getting ready to make my first batch of Pine Tar soap (I also use a 60 oz. oil recipe for my mold) and not sure if I just add 20 % Pine Tar to my oils before adding the lye water. Read some old post on this but still unsure. I only do Goat Milk Soap (CP) and want to try it with that but may just do water for the first batch to see how it goes.

    Which way worked for you?

Anyone made Pine Tar Goat Milk Soap? I use 20% lard in my recipe and it behaves well with Goat Milk but I know the Pine Tar will cause it to trace really fast.

    Thanks :)

    Debbie

  13. No problems for me either pouring candles or making CP soap at home. Have done so for years.

I have an 18 year old Green Wing Macaw Parrot that is also fine with it. I DO put him in a different room with the door closed when I pour but I am sure some fumes still get in there. Parrots are very sensitive to chemical fumes and will die in 2 minutes from the fumes released from a Teflon coated pan overheating and the fumes from some paints (even if they are in a different room). Have not had any respiratory issues with him (I work for my vet also) in 10 years of him being in the home with FO's.

My GS dog is out when I pour and no issues with him being around the fumes for the last 7 years (that is how old he is).

I have never had any fragrance in the food either and I pour in the kitchen.

  14. Made 300 more clamshells for another show next weekend and they are throwing great as usual. Filling the whole house with very little cure. Don't know if adding the 20% 464 is making a difference but I'm not having any issues with this batch other than it being cloudy when melted. If anything they are throwing even stronger.

Just ordered 4 more cases hoping for the same batch.

Now as for the Candle Source wax, tried it and will be sticking with KY.

I sell tons of clamshells and this wax blend has been great for me.

  15. I'm using 2 oz. FO per 20 oz. of melted wax in my KY wax blend.

I heat the wax to 180, pour into coffee pot decanter, stir in FO for 2 minutes, then pour into my clamshells. Releases easily the next day.

  16. I haven't tried spraying the clamshells first (not sure what to use) to see if that would help but I have 50 of them sitting on the shelf right now and just haven't had time to get them unstuck. :sad2:

Guess I'm hoping they will do it themselves if I leave them there long enough. Been there about a month now....still stuck. You have to push them really hard to get them out. Just don't want my customers to fight with them to be able to use them. But they do smell good. :cheesy2:

I found that if I pull the sides away from the bar I can get them out easier but again just takes to much time.

  17. I am selling about 300 clamshells a month made with the KY tart wax mixed with 20% 464 or C3. No problems with HT and get about 8- 10 hours per cube (clamshells) of scent time depending on FO.

Just did a show this weekend and had CS Pumpkin Souffle going and it was super strong.

Sold out of the 30 clamshells in that fragrance I took within a few hours. I do have some FO's that don't throw well in this wax but most do. Citrus FO's burn off the fastest for me. Just lots of testing to see which ones work the best.

I tried the Candle Source wax just to compare and it does throw well but is sticks like crazy to my clamshells.

I have 20lbs. of it left but I won't use it because I have to pull the sides away from every clamshell I make with it and it just takes way to much time. May be fine if your using them in the foil liners.

  18. I have been using the one from AH for 5 years at 1 1/4 oz FO PP wax (would be fine @ 1 oz PP but I am known for really strong throwing candles so I use 1 1/4 oz. on my scents). Have never had a fuel smell and I have sold dozens of cases of candles in this scent with many repeat buyers (also makes an awesome bar of CP Goat Milk Soap)

I use a CDN 14 with this FO in my 8 oz. square mason jar and it throws GREAT!! I color it with 2 orange chips PP of wax and it makes a beautiful bright orange candle.

Have never used the one from NG
