Hi, All!

I have some IGT 6006 wax that I've been making container candles in old canning jars. They are pretty, but I am having a hard time finding enough canning jars to keep up! I am ready to purchase NEW containers now, and am looking for a recommendation.

Does anyone who uses the 6006 wax have a suggestion for a candle container that is a little unique or upscale? And, if you do, what wick works well with them?

Is anyone here from Connecticut? I am part of a group that runs a great little farmers' market in Coventry, about 30 minutes east of Hartford. Tandy makes metal stamps for stamping leather. They work well for soap... I bet they'd work on candles too!

Wicked1... any update on the heating pad method? I am new to candle-making and also am using the 6006 wax in glass jelly jars. Same issue... major sink holes. I was feeling especially inadequate because this is a "one-pour wax"! I am all about tricks that make things work, though!

Absolutely gorgeous! I love the contrast between the translucent and opaque layers. Bravo!

I stickblend it into my oils before adding the lye. I never really considered percentages, I just add a few TBs!

In a perfect day, I can hit 2 or three thrift shops. A local town has a "swap shop" at their transfer station (aka dump). Talk about great... and ALL free!!!! And freecycle.org? And paperbackswap.com? My favorite free websites! FREE...FREE! Who has time for the mall?

Our food co-op has a discount outlet... I've been getting 35 lb. jugs of extra virgin ORGANIC olive oil for $35.00... and the same amount of canola for $15. Jugs of fresh goat's milk, bottles of organic carrot juice, local honey that's crystallized... all really cheap.

Isn't it a high when you find something you can really use? And you're keeping these things out of the landfill. It's a win-win!

Is there a supplier you favor for the silicone smooth-sided pillar molds?

What got me curious was reading through posts about tricks for unmolding candles and problems with sticking. My soap SLIDES right out of my silicone mold liners, so I wondered about the ease of removing candles from silicone molds.

They seem expensive, though. I wondered if that was a hinderance. $30 -something bucks for a large pillar mold? At least my soap molds make a bunch of bars at once. If you were in production mode for candle making, you'd need a lot of these molds, right?

Question: How many of you chandlers are using silicone candle molds? If you don't, why have you chosen not to?

Being *totally* new to the candle thing, I am just wondering about silicone molds. They changed my life as a soapmaker... I'm curious about their use in the candlemaking world!

I use the BIG tea bags and get about 4 heaping tablespoons of tub tea in each.

Beautiful ribbons...excellent prices...customer service is not so great. They are used to selling major wholesale but will fill the smaller orders. I place the order by phone and talk them through the whole thing. They seem only to ship COD...a little weird. For the quality and price, I am willing to put up with their foibles!

I also use Propay and a knucklebuster. There is also an option for Propay members to "send an invoice"... one can send a "bill" a customer can pay securely online. This works great for my internet orders. It took me awhile to find that!

Jen... that sounds like the perfect compromise! I ordered the IGIT Container Wax 6006 ... I *hope* I did OK on that selection! I have some of that FO too... like it was JUST waiting for this project! THANKS, ALL! I very much appreciate your advice!

I am TOTALLY new to candle making! I'd like to make some beeswax container candles. Will beeswax work for container candles or do I need to blend it somehow? Also do I select the appropriate wick size for the container or the wick recommended for beeswax candles?
