  1. Hmmm. Thanks guys. I might try the trick with the metal coat hanger if I can figure out how to make it work.

I'm making chunk votives for magical purposes (I'm a witch) so I was thinking maybe weighing the wick down with a chunk or two? Hmmm. I'll have to fiddle for a while to figure out how to make it work.

  2. I just made my first pillar! :) It didn't turn out exactly how I wanted it, but I might scrap some of it for extra wax to make it look better.

My mother gave me a premade kit from Michael's (I think) and that worked well. The only thing is that it was missing a wick screw, but I just improvised with the sealer. Heh. So yeah, I recommend getting a kit for your first time and following the instructions. :) But it's fun, I promise.

    Good luck!

  3. I just got some candle making supplies for Christmas, and boy am I excited to get a move on! The main problem is that I have a bunch of wick, but it's all loose, not pretabbed or anything, and I want to make votive candles. My votive molds, though, are solid and I have no idea how to make the wick stay still in the votive mold. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Anything would help, as I'm so out of ideas. Thanks guys.

  4. Wow, you guys are so creative! I'm at work right now, but you can bet your buns when I get home I'm trying out some of these great suggestions!

My most creative candle (though I gave it away as a present, or I'd get y'all a picture) was a small container candle that was actually a little martini glass I got from a second hand shop. I made it look like a red drink with a little white ice cube in it. :) I was so proud of myself, hehe.

  5. Wow, lol, this is a strange topic. Though I can kind of see why people would want this... I always wondered what to do when I couldn't burn candles in my dorm... I sort of did it anyway (shhhh, don't tell!). But I think it's scary to dip a poor defenseless teddy. Someone should dip a Barbie doll. Damn Barbie.

  6. Yeah, I was thinking about layering them. How could I get them to stick together, though? Hmmm. So many thoughts. *grins*

Also, in the same vein, what materials can't one use as a mold?

I really want to make chunk candles as well... but now I'm babbling. I've looked around the site and gotten so many ideas. ^_^

  7. Okay, so I'm a newbie. *waves* I've been making mostly jar candles and votives but I really want to make pillars. The problem is, though, that I don't have any money for molds right now. So I was showing my friend a picture of a candle mold and she said "oh, that looks like a cookie cutter" which made me think.... Could you use a metal cookie cutter as a mold for a candle?
